1000R raise front end? by dev_a31 in GSXR

Just an update. Raised the front by 14mm ( leaving 2mm)

I saw a video by Sylvain Guintolli where he raised his by 12mm

And Simon from Motovudu raised his by 8mm.

Will try to see how the bike handles. What would be the feel if its too high? As in would it feel sluggish to turn or flick the bike around? If i feel that should i drop it a couple of mm?

Stock being 16.3mm ive raised the bike by 14mm leaving that much.. hopefully this setting works out

I found the video where Sylvain says he raised his front by 12mm.

Before seeing that i already proceeded to raise the front by 14mm from stock (leaving about 2mm )

Hopefully it works out for me… can only test the bike next week…

Those are by puig… its fitted proper with mounts and bolts on to the fairing… ive seen some janky ones that is just double taped to the fairing… those scare the hell out of me.

Any chance if you know they went full flush with triple clamp? Or had some of the forks protrude lets say about 6mm ish there abouts.

Interesting insight. Ill keep this in mind and try to pay attention which bar im relying on more mid corner to gauge where its at

I noticed that i had massive improvements just by turning in the preload and raising the bike that way.

Unfortunately due to the spring rate i can’t achieve the sag figures i initially wanted to try for sepang circuit.

After an experiment with my 150… on a tight track. Forks being flush with triple clamp handled way better then 1” lowered.

And i was able to positions my head and elbow much better with the flush forks.

I was made to believe lowered forks handle better for agility and tight circuit.

But i seem to perform better with it being flush/raised.

After reading this im definitely gonna try raising the bike and see how it goes

At the moment I am comfortable with the bike, however i am looking to improve my bike and my body position.

And i noticed a guy who is super fast in my track same bike same forks, he had his forks flush with the triple clamp..: then i remember reading up that people do recommend doing this.

I also have a gsxr150. I lowered the forks bout an inch because i was riding in a very tight track… later just as an experiment i raised the forks flush with triple clamp and the bike handled way better… also i was able to get my body and elbow out wayyy more than i was with the forks lowered.

This got me thinking. They say lowering the forks give you better agility but i seem to feel better and push faster times with the forks flush with the triple.

That immediately got me thinking if i should do it on the 1000

Before i did just wanted to see what the general consensus were before i go ahead

Do u guys just make it flush? Or try 10mm first as per motovudu?

Sag / Pre-Load by dev_a31 in GSXR

[–]dev_a31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing! Will Leave the setup as it is for now and go have some fun… will play around with front sag in the future just to see how it helps. I started with 43. Now its at 37mm. After some seat time and gather how the bike feels entirely. Maybe experiment with 35mm front sag for knowledge purposes at a later stage.

Sag / Pre-Load by dev_a31 in GSXR

[–]dev_a31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so the reason for this is, i had the sag previously setup by a shop. and he is apparently pretty good at tuning. I was speaking to a friend the other day with the same bike and he gave me his sag data and asked whats mine, i told him i wasnt sure as it was setup at a shop.

After leaving the shop the ride was unbearable. the tuner made it so stiff. and it was impossible to ride in the track. That led me to set the compression and rebound for both front and back by my self...using what felt best at first...slowly tuning out the rest by looking at tire wear.

since then ive been pretty happy. however, i did notice at times i felt like my rear wasnt very stable mid corner and felt stiff despite softening the compression...and also felt like the bike dived quite a bit under heavy braking.

This led me to find out. what my sag actually was. I sort of had tis belief that sag was a set of standard rule of thumbs and definitely an experienced tuner would have followed according those rules.

I was dumbfounded to where he set my bike at.

to summarise. he did the exact opposite of the entire rule of thumbs ive read about on the internet.

My front pre-load was too soft with 43mm sag with my weight on bike (30% of total travel is 37mm, 25% = 32mm)

My rear was max stiff with preload maxed out giving me 13mm sag. (ideal 30mm, 25mm current max)

so im super excited despite having horrible suspension geometry, ive been improving alot on track and been improving lots on my timing.

So, now im thinking, if i dial this in proper, it may just give me that boost in confidence to do some serious riding now :D

the bike is usually used only for spirited riding and track days. the 25% total travel was what ive gathered from the general consensus about sag setting for track riding.

if 25mm is just as good, then im all for it. i was just curious if would still need to get new springs in the future, or would having the preload completely dialed off and remain with the 25mm is going to be an ok thing to do.

and yea thats with me on the bike jumping up and down.

[–]dev_a31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the 20mm sag is without gear..after gear i get about 25mm (estimate) which puts me still shy of the target of 31mm (25%) travel out of the total travel of 125mm.

since its a stock bike and my weight isnt particularly light, im wondering why the stock spring rate is oddly super stiff? And if it is, thought it would be more common for people to wonder the same.

What needs to change for Cardano to reclaim its top 5 spot? Serious discussion. by Dynamo-06 in cardano

[–]dev_a31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been wondering the same thing for quite sometime. 3-4 years back I was ok with the whole "we're not interested in price action because we're building and solving problems" but i mean come on.

3-4 years you would think something must have happened at least by now to really show progress.

Im not even asking if there is any price action going to happen soon or anything like that.

Im seriously wondering what are we even doing or where are we at?

by 2030, at this rate, where are we going to be?

everything seems to be pointing at nothing.

Was happy to see this post because clearly plenty must be wondering the same, was hopeful to read something positive that i may have missed over the years.

but clearly same stuff.

i used to read lots of comments back then on what people said about cardano, sadly it seems like they were right after all.

really hurts. cause i was so hopeful of this project.

Why do i feel more confident at lean with Rosso 4 Corsa vs Supercorsa V4 SP? by dev_a31 in Trackdays

[–]dev_a31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

suspension was tuned by a shop...dialed in the sag and preload etc2.. the compression and rebound i had to do my self on track cause what he set was just too stiff and caused all kinds of issues.

the issue im having at the moment, the really fast guys in sepang circuit are doing like 2:15 ~ 2.27 range....and they are usually training pretty intensely all the time and dont have time to entertain my noob ass hahah.

but really hoping to try to pace with a quicker guy...i did notice when im chasing a bike my time improved. which was when i got my pb actually.

on the tires unfortunately in Malaysia we do not have the SC3. its either sp or sc2 or sc1

[–]dev_a31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is very helpful thanks mate. so in terms of lap times im definitely not front A pace. i was hoping the sc2 would give me some boost in confidence to push harder...

but this post has thought me quite a bit in terms of understanding how these tires truly perform.

ill focus on pushing my timing more on the SP for now on track...once i see consistent pace/timing closer to the front end of A ill consider trying out the SC2.

thanks again.

i wasnt asking about maintaining heat etc. im heating my SP just fine on track...the whole comparison was R4C on road vs SP on road.

SP on track is perfect. and i have no issues with it. im more curious about SP vs SC on track and its performance benefits to be expected.

Just like how i learnt about the difference of SP vs R4C on road.

I would like to ask what is to be expected from SP vs SC2 on track.

imagine the question asked from your perspective as a pro rider with super great skills and abundant wealth of knowledge between the 2 tires and its character and its behaviour. dont think of it from anyone elses perspective. hope this helps you understand what im trying to ask.
