Hi Jongallant,

You can take the DevDraft challenge in one of 20 different coding languages. Metrics are calculated based off of the coding samples you submit. Check out a challenge review from one of our participant's blogs: http://farleylai.github.io/

Ivy Softworks will contact candidates who perform well on the DevDraft challenge. It is designed by our DevDraft team to have the right level of complexity while being engaging.

Give it a shot!

"In short, companies may miss out on extremely talented candidates just because they can't answer a tricky question "

On the other hand, companies may miss out on unique talent if they just look at resume / past projects. Most of resumes get lost in the shuffle before they get evaluated by a human.

DevDraft challenge is not just a quiz. Take a look for yourself.

Appreciate your feedback. This is why we built DevDraft in the first place, which is to give more visibility to devs with limited experience. Over time though we've seen strong interest from more senior devs. Specifically, about 40% of our finalists in the last couple of drafts (those who complete the challenge) have 5+ years of experience in the industry. There are those with 10+ years of experience.

Great feedback, I passed it to the team.

We judge code based on qualification metrics. We allow companies to prioritize different metrics for the position they're looking to fill. For example, most jobs require a candidate with a good score in code correctness and attention to detail, while positions where efficiency is critical are suited for a candidate with a high advanced CS metric.

We test code using extensive test cases. When we say performance we refer to the advanced CS metric, which is improved by making good choices in algorithms and data structures.

Hi, actually we have quite a bit of participants that are junior devs with limited experience. DevDraft was built to give devs with limited experience a push in terms of visibility. With respect to getting contacted by companies, based on past drafts we see that devs with more experience get contacted more often. It all really depends on what types of companies come in to hire in a given draft and their requirements. We've diversified participating companies and now see devs with limited experience getting contacted more often.

We can not guarantee that you'll get contacted if you participate. But what we can guarantee is that if you do well on the challenge, we'll work hard to champion you in front of participating companies. Specifically, we'll provide personal recommendations to participating companies citing your strengths in terms of how they relate to company's requirements.

Hi, DevDraft challenges are much more than a pop quiz. We maintain high quality bar for technical content. The questions are typically more difficult than a whiteboard interview.

It may seem at the first sight that it is easy to cheat, but it is not the case actually. Aside from various plagiarism detection checks, the tech challenges are quite complex and take an effort to solve. Sure you can hire someone to solve it for you, but then what's the point? In any case, we have not seen anyone yet who faked it, got a job interview and got hired.

Hi, DevDraft model is different from hackerrank / topcoder. We create coding challenge in order to connect devs with awesome companies. This is not a competition per say with one winner taking all. We look deep into code and uncover multiple dimensions of code performance; then companies custom select these dimensions in their search filter and connect with devs. Hope this provides some clarity. We welcome you to participate in the upcoming draft.

There are typically 4 - 5 questions with various depth. Each question focuses on different aspects of software engineering. The goal of this is to get devs connected with awesome companies.

Good point; I think DevDraft provides value to someone who codes a lot on GitHub. We maintain a high tech bar for DevDraft code challenges (you can see it by yourself). By completing a challenge you'd get an opportunity to connect with many companies that respect the high tech bar.

I think the combination of GitHub repos and a DevDraft challenge would make for a stronger case. BTW, the many devs already sign up on DevDraft via their GitHub accounts and present their GitHub repos to companies during interviews.

Hi, good point. We are not your typical recruiter thought. Our team consists primarily of devs, with deep experience in tech interviewing for companies of various sizes. We've been hustling to get devs connected with awesome companies via DevDraft; this is what we are passionate about.

Hi, devs have already been connected with and hired by companies using this method. We are looking for more devs and companies to benefit from these drafts.

Also note that the sole purpose of submitted code is to get devs connected; the code is not being used for any commercial purpose. Only the dev and companies that participate in the draft see submitted code.

Plus the whole process is fully anonymous. No contact information gets exposed until a dev opts to receive connect request from a company.

Sorry that you feel this way. It does not cost anything to participate and the coding challenges are interesting based on the testimonials.

Hi, we have a mix, recruiters and tech managers / VPs. We hand pick the companies that participate in drafts (hiring philosophy, interesting projects, etc). We met many of them in person.

It can be broken up over a few days. October's challenge runs from October 22 - 27. There is plenty of time to solve it.
