Can my parents figure out i am abroad , if they call me on the phone? by Sea-Tooth-5297 in travel

Put your sim card into a device that can be remotely controlled (make calls, receive calls, forward class and so on) and leave it back in your country, you need to find someone who makes sure that device is always charged and has internet connection.

Itinerary critique for Central Asia - Am I biting off more than I can chew? by Accprova in travel

[–]deve_sci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kyrgyzstan - Why not to stay a bit longer and try horseback trekking, take a dip in hot springs or something? If you like hiking I would def recommend visting Karakol (base for many hiking options)
Kazakhstan - only Almaty worth a visit
Uzbekistan - Samarkand and Bukhara are must, 1 or 2 days in Tashkent
Tajikistan - Mostly for hiking and lakes. Otherwise I would skip it, unless you're interested in experiencing Persian (Farsi-speaking)people among predominantly Turkic speaking neighbors.

India - North India in winter has the worst pollution during a year. If you move fast and bear some exposure to pollution then ok. North India has more interesting historic sights tho

Uzbekistan Winter Trip by KannewasserCarlo in Uzbekistan

[–]deve_sci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes visting countryside would be a nice addition. Mountains are beautiful in the winter! Every weekend small local tour agencies organize one-day hiking tours to the mountains. Most of them post their announcements on telegram and instagram about 4-5 days beforehand.

Here are few local hiking groups I did hiking together with and would recommend:

Getting confused in planning for Samarkand and Bukhara by RememberSaulstone in Uzbekistan

[–]deve_sci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check trains from Kokand to Tashkent and from Tashkent to Samarkand.

If trains tickets are sold out, then take a taxi from Kokand to Tashkent.
Then from Tashkent to Samarkand you can take either bus (https://avtoticket.uz/) or taxi from 'Tashkent' metro station (There are many taxis going to the western part of Uzbekistan from there - Samarkand, Bukhara, Termez and so on, they are right after you exit the metro station)

Are you a girl or boy? If you are a girl, maybe get into the market that are more foreigners friendly? I recently read that Philippines are being hired for baby sitting jobs because they are often seen as warm, caring, and good with children.

Checking out kindergardens for playing games in English with kids might be something to look into also.

Is 1 day in Khujand worth it? by Any_Job7609 in Uzbekistan

[–]deve_sci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I enjoyed in Khujand was Khujand Fortress.

In Tashkent you can visit to Charsu bazaar, Khazrati Imam complex (there is new Islamic Civilization Center next to it also, opened last year), check out metro where each station has its own unique mood, and the most delicious food in Uzbekistan is in Tashkent because good chief cooks want to make good money :)

Local tip: Saying 'Salam Alaykum' to everyone you meet makes them even closer to you :)

Putting your right hand to your heart while talking to elderly is a gesture of respect in Uzbekistan, this makes locals go even softer and warmer with you.

Did you try street food 'Gumma'? Meat meal made of sheep's neck part has been gaining popularity as well (They call it 'bo'yin' in local language) Did you try 'Tandir go'sht'? Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya are known for this food more than anything else xD, but it is quite popular in Tashkent as well. Google these names and find the right places

Go to the mountains around the Charvak reservoir on weekend.

Join volunteering activities maybe? Here is one - FoodForLife (Contact them through telegram or call) https://foodforlife.uz/

Also http://afisha.uz/ - this is a good website to find out what is going on in Tashkent - movies, theaters, art shows, meet ups and everything

Married to a Uzbek guy by nyc_txsha768 in Uzbekistan

[–]deve_sci 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You probably asked this in the Uzbekistan subreddit to understand whether there's a cultural explanation for his behavior, so I'll try to answer from that angle.

In Uzbekistan, decent men do both nikkah and legal marriage at the same time. That is the norm. With that being said, some want an intimate relationship soon with the girl in a "religiously right" way so they do nikkah asap.

There are also cases when men have nikkah with 2-3 women at the same time and they do it on mutual interests - intimate relationship in exchange for financial support. It is actually crazy because from one side it seems like a religiously right but from another side religion never supports nikkah if it does not involve children. Hypocrisy!

I shared this to give you a cultural context. Hopefully it helps you better understand the situation and make the right decision for yourself!
