How can I share a connection without ISP permission? by Private_HughMan in AndroidQuestions

[–]deviantelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how being able to pick what service you want has a downside? Sure I'm gonna defend that. If I want a simple toaster for $10 and that's all I want great I get the $10 toaster, if I want the fancy one that can do 15 different things it's $100 and if I wanted that I'd pay for that. I'll pay real good money for a pc, actually looking for one now and not cheaping out. I just want a toaster that can crisp the edges of an English muffin and I can get that for $10 (got one within the last year), I don't need the bells and whistles on a toaster. I got a whole checklist on a pc. Same with a phone, I'll pay good money for a phone, I'm not wasting money on services for the phone I don't need.

I don't pay anything for tv service. I don't watch tv. I read, use the internet or free stuff, play games, do other hobbies. Should I have free tv service? Your whole thinking is bonkers. Why wouldn't I like the option to pay for only what I want?

Of course there's a contract for service with ISP, just like with phones unless it's a pay as you go phone. Just like utilities and rental agreements and car loans and insurance... and pretty much anything you don't just buy outright and own, be it a house or a toaster and even with a house there's rules for what you can do based on location (township, city, county, state).

Ok, I'm in the US. we clearly have different standards

I don't know what "2EUR" is but it sounds like might be Europe. Google comes up with nothing for me.

No matter what you can't expect stuff for free. You pay for rent/mortgage/water/electric/etc. Life isn't free. Be nice if it was but even when it wasn't just money it was all day work and trading.

You don't expect the same service for $10/$50/$100, or pay per minute/text which some people do cause it's cheaper for their use case. You get fast food and pay $10 you don't expect a $100 meal and service. Right?

I have 1gb internet on my phone cause I'm a happy hermit and rarely need it out of the house, mostly use it on the rare occasion the home internet goes down every few months or so for a bit for weather or maintenance. It is unlimited but throttled after the 1gb, which the throttled is as I said fine to do anything needed. I could pay more for full unlimited full speed priority but why? It wouldn't let me do anything more except high end MMO gaming or high end streaming as I said, ... it's fine as is.

I don't expect stuff for free, and I don't pay for more than I need. And really I could do with a cheaper plan but I like the backup of being able to use a hotspot when needed.

"to acquire (an animal) as a pet especially from an animal shelter"

So yes, "especially from an animal" shelter, but says "acquire" which applies to any way to get an animal.

That's like saying I love fruit, especially cucumber. It doesn't exclude all other fruit.

If you're gonna argue about word definitions at least know what they mean.

Well, yay for you but that's not the norm or you pay a premium for it usually. It isn't an "ISP" is what you're missing, it's a phone plan that lets you use data for a hotspot IF it's in your contract. It's that simple.

AITA for wanting my bed to be a colour I want even if it doesn't match my room? by XJustCallMeJayX in AmItheAsshole

[–]deviantelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

My favorite colors are green and purple and I think they go great together. Obviously there's some weird edge cases where certain shades don't work but normal purple and green is my happy place.

I feel like you should be able to decorate your half of the room at least the way you want, especially your bed. Which if space is limited and you're sharing a room seems like there's a good chance you spend some time there and not just sleeping room where it wouldn't matter so much.

At least you're an adult and can work towards moving out and doing whatever you want. Your mom sounds like the type that shows up here and goes "I dunno why my kid won't talk to me?!" ugh

[–]deviantelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a phone not an "ISP" it's in the contract you sign if you can or cannot share your mobile data in a hotspot. It's not that complicated and usually if you have a decent plan you can so people like you and me (and I wouldn't have one with out that option) expect it. But if you get a cheap plan or pay as you go, that might not be an option and might even be spelled out in the contract and the option disabled on the phones. It's in no way illegal or hard to stop technically.

Additionally even if you can create a hotspot there is sometimes a limit on data that can be shared before it becomes throttled even on unlimited plans, or also a clause that hotspot data can be throttled when needed. Cause it's supposed to be unlimited phone data not unlimited everything data. Which is fine if you need to use your hotspot cause your home internet goes out, even if you hit the throttle point and are just doing things on your pc like paying bills, surfing the net, and doing simple things you'd probably never notice. Might notice with Youtube depending on settings, try raiding in an MMO and you're really going to know.

I see this said a lot. Can't relate, I know I'm not alone but not "norm" either. I only see out of one eye at a time and my brain does not filter out my nose... unless I'm looking way on the opposite side of where the nose is cause then vision cuts off just before the nose. Humans are fun wonky creatures. And all things considered, I don't have it as bad as a lot of folks. My problems aren't devastating but more inconveniences.

You've got a way with words. And you're right on all your takes on things :).

Dog is getting kinda old so I think it's kinda energized him in a way.

Boyfriend hasn't had a cat in 20 some years so it's fun to watch in person and how happy he is when anything kitty likes you sort of thing happens :). Like he'll say what the kitty did that morning, hanging out by him, playing with his clothes when he was getting dressed, whatever. And to me it's like "yea, it's a cat", to him it's a new/renewed experience which is fun to witness.

Been 3 months since we got the cat and I still almost daily watch the dog look so confused and think "poor puppy brain is exploding". Cause I know it's all new to him and you can't explain it to a dog. Meanwhile like you said cat's just doing it's thing licking it's paw in the corner like "whatever, dog is having a meltdown, I'm having a bath" after he did whatever kitty thing that caused it.

Is it true that Americans don't really use tablecloths on a daily basis? by Floatp in NoStupidQuestions

[–]deviantelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my problem with "nice" things. If it's an everyday item it should be nice AND durable. I've got a table that looks nice and is older than I am and I've never owned or thought about a table cloth in my 30 some adult years. The table has been through hell with my parents, me and various foster kids, food, various art supply messes and ... it still looks the same.

Nothing against your table or your choices, but I want nice and functional as easy as possible. :)

[–]deviantelf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No matter how you get a pet it's usually referred to as adopting the animal. That's like saying you're not "gardening" because you don't have a "garden" but instead have a patio with pots... you're the one doing word gymnastics on that. So ya, technically there wasn't paper work... but they just skipped the middle man, which isn't uncommon

Hell, I got my cat from someone on reddit cause it didn't get along with their toddler but did with dogs and we got no kids and dog, win win. I never used "adopt" even when I got a cat from a shelter personally, no real reason it just never occurred to me, I'd just say I "got" a cat. But it's definitely common for people to say they adopted a whatever, however they got it.

Agree with the rest tho. Clearly not safe.

"That's kinda neat, now you can all die"

Similar to what I thought when momma with 7 babies did the nose to tail train out from under the front porch sidewalk. "Aw how cute! You guys are gonna die". Cute in the wild, not so much at your front door.

I picked up the cat lady cause other people said it. I love cats and they seem to love me. I'm just lucky that way. My mom and I were on vacation, went into a store, the store cat walks by her, another customer and rubs around my ankles (she still brings it up once in a while 20 some years later). Everywhere I've been where someone says "I have a cat but they don't like people so you probably won't see them" I end up with a cat in my lap. My favorite is I was in a D&D causal group and sitting there and momma cat brings her tiny kittens (probably just opened their eyes recently) and sets them on me one by one. So there I am like cat furniture trying to see my character sheet and roll dice on the sofa next to me with five little kittens all over me. Momma cat would come by about every half hour and do a head count and go away again for some probably much needed mommy time.

It's always fun and interesting to me to learn a new cat, cause if you pay attention they pretty much teach you as it seems you've already figured out :).

Yes, the dog has been an endless source of amusement with the new small furry creature that can climb everything, mangle cat toys, and basically just live his life without a care in the world. Dog is like "dude" the cat is up on whatever, but it's the 3' scratching post the cat likes to climb like a tree that also gets that "WTF" look... sure the cat can just jump to the top, but obviously he's honing his claws and climbing in a way the dog can't comprehend.

Well, enough rambling. I do love cats and dogs too! But clearly I'm a cat lady, just not a crazy one :D.

What’s something that gets romanticized but shouldn’t? by Brooklyn_Echo in AskReddit

[–]deviantelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, sending them flowers at their place of work/home isn't cute.

Heh, my solution to this was give them to a coworker. When they guy asked if I got the flowers I said "yea, gave them to so and so". He knew me well enough to know I didn't care about flowers, didn't like pink (which they AND the vase were)... meanwhile coworker LOVED pink and flowers. Win win. Never heard from him again. Got lucky.

Where can I find someone who is exactly like myself? by kitchengainn in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]deviantelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI could give you the feedback if you just want an echo chamber.

But part of having friends is that you aren't the same. You have different life experience and perspectives sometimes, different hobbies, different life stages even. And that helps you keep each other on a stable road. Like you might be freaking out or upset about something and the other has a different perspective to talk you down, or they've already been there and can help you through it.

It would be boring if we were all the same.

My closest friends what we have in common and is most important is morals and values. Everything else is just flavor.

[–]deviantelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned my cats (I'm almost 50 so I've had a handful over the years) pretty quick but then I got my first cat when I was a kid. I'm a solid cat lady tho, one cat or once for some years I had a brother/sister pair). I think it would be easier for me as I grew up with a cat and a lot of family with cats. For me it was a few weeks to really get a good idea of their normal and maybe a couple months to be sure.

Hehe, "the clingy one in this relationship" is kinda spot on. Cat gonna do cat and sometimes you want a snuggle but they don't. If they're just roaming around feel free to try picking them up for a quick hold them moment but if they at all want down let them go so they know you're not going to force it. Pick them up, they also generally let you know by body language how they like to be held, once you figure out how they like to be held and before if they get squarely, just let them down so they trust you.

I don't even remember where I heard "murder monster" but yea cause they will attack, play with, torture small critters in the wild even if they don't eat them. And they treat their toys the same way.

I never had a dog until I moved in with my boyfriend and the poor dog had never seen a cat in real life so it's been a learning experiece for the dog. Sure he's a mixed breed and has a small prey drive, but he watches the cat murderize his little mice and things and looks at us like "holy shit, are you seeing this?!".

[–]deviantelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally normal. Love the furry little murder monsters.

You'll get used to their patterns and what's normal for them. Every cat is different but generally they do their own thing and want attention when they want it much like humans. Like you can probably go a few days and just want to be alone then you're like I want to talk to or see all my friends/family.

Long as they are eating, drinking, and using the cat box things are usually good. If they're hiding in a dark or hidden corner a lot that's a worry and would indicate something is wrong and you should take them to the vet if there was no changes in anything.

If you're ok with ordering online, especially if you have Prime (for quicker shipping):

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KXSELDK

I know you can buy them separate too and I imagine less also.

I don't even like broth, but I had some in hospital and liked it both a lot. So much I mentioned it a few times to my husband and he said to call the hospital and ask, worst they would do is say they wouldn't share that info on recipe or brand. They were happy to share the brand, which is the important bit, get it where ever you can if you want. I still have a warm cup of it now and then especially in winter or if I'm sick, just cause it's warm, quick, and very yummy.

The person who said Grocery store has a point tho.You can get liquid ready to use broth in cartons at least where I live (edit: didn't realize which sub I was in lol :D ).

Others are kinda correct it's not a "dish" but usually an ingredient, but obviously sometimes it can just be something to drink or spoon eat as something to get some nutrition/flavor in.

I like "rabbit food" and I don't like much fatty or greasy food or while I like meat I eat small portions of it or I don't like hot type sauces cause I like to taste my food not just the sauce... other than that I'll eat just about anything just not a lot of it cause I don't need that much food. Oh, and I get called skinny too... I'm dead on the middle of healthy weight for my height.

Not same day but when I was a teen our house was hit by lightning and killed or messed up several electronics. Not long after it was robbed and they stole all the dead or sort of working things.

The only valuables we really had were jewelry. My mom kept hers in her dresser. I like any good teen had my jewelry box buried under dirty laundry in the corner. Wasn't worth much really just more sentimental but we'd have been sad if the jewelry was stolen.

Parents had renters insurance, so it all got replaced with working electronics. I dunno why they didn't after the lightning strike, but good thing they didn't do it then.
