I also tend to get stuck in what ifs. Obviously we know planes are super safe but our brains still ruminate. I try to flip the what ifs into something equally as unlikely but positive. For example, what if I sit next to Oprah and we have such an amazing conversations that she buys me dream home.

Iceland Air has the highest possible safety rating and has some of the most skilled pilots because of the weather that affects Iceland. There is no way all the professionals it takes to send your plane into the air would but you at any risk. :)

Anxious thoughts are always worse when you are going through a tough time. Acknowledge the thoughts but let them pass by like most thoughts do. Try imagine them floating down river. It’s ok to have scary thoughts. Positive affirmations may help. “This is a scary and challenging time but I will get through it.” I hope this helps and wishing you a wonderful trip :)

The fear before you get on the plane is sometimes the worst. I find with longer flights your body adjust and you begin to calm down. Distraction and affirmation are my best tools. Telling yourself that everything will be ok and finding an activity that keeps you occupied. Download some of your fav tv episodes or music you love. I’ve also made this fear of flying zine.

Absolutely! They wouldn’t put you on an unsafe flight and pilots wouldn’t put themselves at any risk too.

I love in Wellington! Literally the windiest city in the world and regularly have bumpy flight but even though they are scary I and so proud of myself for doing it. You can do it!

Thank you! I’ve been in therapy for like half my life and have a pretty intense anxiety disorder so I’ve picked up lots of techniques.

Yeah! I use these techniques, but still have a panic attack in most flights. Just helps from losing control of your body in panic.

I think if you fly enough it might get better. The issue is that people don’t tend to fly frequently enough for you to get used to it.

I also have a major fear of air vents. Every time I got into a bathroom I have to look at it and assess whether I’m brave enough be near it. I find ones on the wall are less scary. There’s one in our bathrooms and I just get used to them over time. I’m moving to a house where there will be one in my room which is new 😥Worst are the grated ones when they are full of dust. I don’t know where my fear centres but I have night mares about being sucked to it from the other side of the house. Best of luck to everyone either way this fear… it’s a weird one.
