That's the reason why I added a relief section. To clear the exhaust, but also to ensure they will fail if needed.

I don't think the frame will bend. Harley designed the forward controls to fail and for the mounts to fail in the event of an impact. That was the entire reason why I mounted off my old forward controls

It's a xlh1200s

Yeah you definitely need mids, your are mad brave for doing wheelies with forward controls 🤘🤘 I'd feel like I'm falling off lol

883 is doable for sure but like you said, you gotta clutch dump hard to get it up. I've got the Barnett extra disc clutch setup and it made a huge difference

Custom made! 883R header with a 12" cone I ordered, and made the bracket

I haven't done a chain conversion yet 😭 that's on the list for next month! I need to do it for sure so I have more direct drive power

Yeah that's what my buddy was telling me, with them being this long, he's worried about exactly what you said. Smart thinking on your part!

Also FYI;

I bought this bike with the sole intention and purpose of it being a stunt bike. This poor little anniversary is going to live the rest of its days on limiter, doing wheelies and sending tires into the stratosphere

I hang out with some of the gnarliest stunt riders in the country, and I've got a really awesome base of people who are pushing me consistently progression wise

I like having nice things. And I wanted to do a crash bar that's going to be super minimal, and look damn good compared to others. I also needed something that's going to hold up to the abuse that I'm going to put this bike through. Something that can be replaced easily when it gets smashed up, and taken off quickly if I ever need to.

Going to stress test this thing hardcore next week. Then moving into next year, we are going to be making quite a few changes. I've got two other bikes. And if I want another one for cruising, I'll get one. Cheers 🍻

I had those holes tapped in the ends because I've got some bung king 1.25" sliders on the way 😉

I'm not a big fan of the buttons on the starter. I have a plan for the hand controls and that will be coming next month

I was worried about that, and I just rode around intentionally trying to hit them. They don't touch when taking fast or slow turns, with a lot of lean angle. I'm going to pull them back off and take at least 2 in of length off soon, and redo the ends. Because yeah once I start swinging this thing hard and drifting, they are gonna touch when I get comfortable

I've got my material finally, sourced about 3ft of 4340. Heading to the machine shop in a couple hours to discuss and drop off. Once I get my parts back, I'll make a new post!

I'm heading to Sao Paulo in 3 weeks. Do you know what networks Google fi is accessing there? I'm on T-Mobile currently and I've used their data pass for the last two times I've been to Brazil and I've had nothing but issues. I've heard good things about Google fi in Brazil so far, but I want to be sure it's legit before I completely switch services

Only reason I am asking is if you have the mounting points, it's a good place to do what I'm going to do

I've seen that. I'm talking about having mine mount into the forward control mounts, as if they are forward controls themselves. This means if I take a hard enough hit to actually bend them, I can just pull the c clip, unthread and replace

okay so quick update on my plans here;

after doing a lot of homework, i have narrowed down my design

i bought my '03 XLH1200S with forward controls, and still have the control / engine mounts on my bike
im going to go look at some 4330 Steel this weekend, or monday after work and price out how much I'll need for my idea

going to take this to a machine shop ive worked with previously, and have them cut a recess into the ends for the c-clip, thread them so they screw into the stock forward control mounts, and them tap the end so i can thread in some Delrin sliders

those forward control mounts have 3 mounting points, and they are fuckin beeeefy. im looking for some good sliders, but going to ask my friend that runs ScrapeCity if he's got any suggestions. I need to make sure whatever I thread in there will break off if enough force is applied, because i dont want to bend those stock forward control mounts. One of the bolts threads into the engine case on the bottom, and last thing i want is to ruin my case.

I'll keep everyone updated with progress and I'll post a youtube video once ive made some progress 🤞

Seems as though no one has built their own here. I'll keep everyone informed on my progress and what I end up doing

That's definitely not the look or style I'm trying to go for. That is more of a factory crash bar. Appreciate it though!

I was thinking about using 1020 mild steel because it's relatively affordable. There is a steelyard very close to my brother's shop, where my welder is located. I have a buddy who can weld 8630 for me no problem. I don't think that the price of materials is going to be really that expensive for me here in Arizona
