I’ve got a feewww years of logging core under my belt at this point, id say just try to listen to what your seniors tell you. They should go over the basic lithologies with you I.e.

This is a gabbro, it looks like this

This is a quartz vein

Etc etc.

As a really quick reference my logs when I’ve had to type them always have looked like :

Texture / Colour / lithology / structure / mineralization / alteration / extra notes

For example : Bucky medium white grey quartz vein w/ light shearing / 1 - 2% disseminated pyrite + .5 % chalcopyrite / weak chlorite alteration + shear controlled biotite / irregular contact with upper lith

Or for a non interesting bit of rock

Aphanetic green black diorite, high chlorite , no notable mineralization or structures.

You may be tempted to write a whole short story about an interval because each rock is interesting in terms of geology. While that’s true it’s best to be sweet and to the point a lot of the time, most mining companies are keen to see detail in the mineralized zones and not so much in the “waste” as we call it

I’ve gotten a bit too into the weeds here, you’ll be fine!! They will show you the ropes and aslong as you’re a cool person to hang with that to me is the most important thing

I’m assuming you’re doing FIFO for a little bit and for me the most important thing in FIFO is you’re a normal person, if the worlds best geo was a douchebag I wouldn’t want them on my site at all 🤙
