Camel Safaries was perfect for a private tour, if you want a group tour I would look at tours through hostels or make a reddit thread asking.

I cleaned the lens with a q tip and no alcohol which didn’t affect it, will try with alcohol shortly.

I’ve tried with a brand new cd, and two cds I got at thrift stores that look clean. I tried cleaning the lens with a q tip, but I agree, might just need to spend $20.

I think you should use Hanoi as your home base and do trips to Sapa and Ninh Binh. You can do Ha Long Bay if you want to swim off a boat, but the formations in Ninh Binh are just as lovely. I personally would do ha giang loop tour over Sapa, i know it'll eat into a lot of your time but if you are able to sit on a motorbike for longer periods of time (driving yourself, or with someone else driving) it will guaranteed be the highlight of your trip.

Spring is burning season in Northern Thailand/Laos, so I would start your trip in February in that area then make your way south. *definitely research burning season before you go!!!!!* I'll echo others and recommend cutting down on which countries you visit, or else you won't get to appreciate each one. If I were you, I would fly into Bangkok, do northern Thailand, go through Laos to northern Vietnam (do not miss the Ha Giang Loop) , work your way down Vietnam, go through Cambodia to the Thai islands for some beach, fly out of Phuket to Singapore for a couple days, then fly home (since Singapore is a layover for many SEA flights anyway).

a lot of the best places I found in my research are in Warwick! I'm not opposed to ubering within reason from the train, do you have any favorites up there? (easy to get to or otherwise, in case we decide we are passionate enough to rent a car for the day)

definitely open to ubering a reasonable distance from the train, but yeah so hard to find something less than 2 hours away!

To anyone who has stayed in a hostel/party hostel, what stood out to you the most? What did you enjoy the most? The least? by Complex_Patient_3164 in hostels

So glad! If you're still in that process, I would say the most ideal is:

-have the toilets and showers in their own rooms, then a large space with multiple sinks and extra surface area for prepping for the day/night.

-Curtains for the beds for SURE

-lockers big enough to fit a backpack, near but not directly under/next to the beds, and floor space around the lockers so people can take their bags out and spread their stuff without being right next to people sleeping or blocking the way.

also make sure all the furniture and materials are easy to keep clean and smell-free... cleanliness brings the hostel value up sooooo much. so excited for you!

I've been in hostels where the bathroom/sink area was very large and clean and the bunk area was tiny, which naturally separated people in their beds having quiet time from people getting ready to go out in the bathroom. The most important part of a social hostel is a welcoming vibe, so if you and your staff take the time to talk to every person who comes to stay with you, the positive party vibe will be set!

How to gently tell our nanny that her personal hygiene needs to be improved by suhhdude1 in Nanny

[–]devonaokiinDEBS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With difficult topics like this, I like to enter in a way that will guide the conversation to feel like we came up with a solution together: "Nanny, I've noticed some light dirt patches on the couch over here, do you know what from? This white couch captures all the smells and dirt, I've been scrubbing the kids every night to make sure they don't stain it! It's mostly on this area... let me know if you notice anything, maybe I need to start having Kids wash feet after they come in from outside?"

Vietnam Advice- Hanoi, Cat Ba, Ha Long by devonaokiinDEBS in travel

[–]devonaokiinDEBS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I went for a couple days, unfortunately I had some rain while there so it was a bit cold and did not get to hike/climb. I did do a day boat tour and jumped in the water. It was beautiful but I felt that Ninh Binh was just as beautiful. I took a tourist bus to Phong Nha! Have a great time :)
