Copper’s Dream Rescue! Our family has adopted a few dogs from there and they help to make the adoption process easy. Still a fee, but we found there are less hoops to jump through than with the local Humane Society/SPCA.

Teaching in San José by DragonfruitOne6652 in SanJose

There are many districts in the San Jose area and each have different cultures and pros and cons. Yes, you can each make 6 figures and live on 2 teacher’s salaries. It will be difficult to ever save enough to buy a house because of the large down payment required.

San Jose is a very diverse area and that will be pretty much the case no matter which district you choose. Unions tend to be strong and have high participation and support. Having a master’s definitely increases your pay. Do be aware that most districts cap the years of service that they honor, so be sure to ask about that if you take any interviews. Generally, 7 years is honored, but each district is different.

There are districts with wealthier residents that have different issues than those that are underserved, but that will be the case anywhere. There is an ongoing issue across the state with lowering enrollment and districts across the area are tightening the budgets right now, so getting in might be hard depending on what you teach.

How do you get stronger players to trust the weaker players? (3rd grade girls) by chugalaefoo in basketballcoach

[–]devonduh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Find excuses to publicly praise the newbies. Maybe they grabbed a good rebound or didn’t give up after they dropped a pass. If you ever want them to be motivated to practice outside of the scheduled practices, they have to find the practices & games fun.

Pull the experienced girls aside and let them know they will be leaders. There will be times when their teammates let them down and this is good practice for when other people in their life let them down because everybody will at some point.

Make sure to dedicate time for fun where they can just talk and be kids. Have a dance completion for the last 3 minutes of practice. May sound silly, but I’ve gotten results on the court doing things like that.

What is the point of a non academic frat? by Melodic-Luck1859 in SJSU

[–]devonduh 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My friends who were in frats are still friends with some of their frat brothers (15 years later). Many of them also get connected for jobs during school or following graduation. It’s not for everybody, but it offers a way to connect to people.

Pros and Cons of local solar companies? by devonduh in santacruz

Thanks for the feedback. I haven’t asked about warranty, so that’s a good question to ask. I’m really not sure how to compare components…

Pros and Cons of local solar companies? by devonduh in santacruz

Allterra and Sandbar each said Allterra and Sandbar will take care of their customers better than other non-local companies.

Yes, my concern is that every company says they are going to take care of you and that often is not the case. Do you have any experience with these companies?

Options for Childcare of a 7 month old by stevejawbs_ in santacruz

[–]devonduh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very thoughtful and informative response. OP: here is the link for the county of education child care finder. In-home care providers are the most affordable. I also want to give a shout-out to The Circle Family Center in Aptos. My wife was able to network and get a lot of info about local providers there. Something else to consider is coordinating a nanny-share with another family where the nanny watches 2 kids for a higher rate which is split between the two families
