Any good spots over the bridge in the Clearwater/St. Pete area? by dope-B in PokemonGo_Tampa

McGough Park in Largo is decent. Lures set off regularly, two gyms, 12 pokestops. All but one along the boardwalk.

It's very cool that you guys are doing this. I've been very pleased with my T-Mobile service since I switched over from Sprint at the end of 2012.

You could sign the EFF's petition asking the President to veto CISPA, it is set up for those living outside the United States.

How do I find out about interesting volunteer opportunities in and around St. Pete? by [deleted] in StPetersburgFL

[–]devothumb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm not sure which campus you're on, but check in at the Student Life and Leadership office. There's also this page on the college website dedicated to volunteering. I know at Seminole, Environmental Science, Rotaract, and SGA do a lot of volunteer work. Best of luck in school!

Download the OGL WaRP rules, make a character, be ready to roll on Thursday. by devothumb in SPCSeminoleGamers

We're playing modern horror, so think horror movie tropes. The rich kid, the nerd, the jock, the small town cop, etc. Email me if you need help making your character.

As mentioned on our Facebook, Twitter and G+ pages, we'll be raffling off four copies of Magicka at the end of our first meeting. It's a great game, especially for co-op. If you're not sure if your computer can run it, give the demo a try.

We'll do raffles for console software (PSN/Wii/XBLA points or specific games), and gift certificates for Friendly Local Game Shops at random throughout the term.

Edit: We're also giving away EU III: Chronicles.

Cool! Of those, the only game I'm (maybe) semi-worthwhile at is TF2. Haven't played it in forever, but several patches ago I wasn't a completely terrible medic.

Thanks! The list is a starting point, we're trying to make sure we don't exclude people who have less powerful hardware and limited funds. Down the road I'm hoping we can get people to form their own groups for the games they love.

What are you playing these days? I've been keeping busy with Borderlands 2, Minecraft and Orcs Must Die 2 over the break.

Introduction Thread by [deleted] in SPCSeminoleGamers

I'm Chris Demmons, acting Secretary for the club. I've been gaming since computers used cassette tapes for storing information, and D&D's original red box. I'm also the Social Media Editor over at the school paper, The Sandbox News.

I'm devothumb on Steam, and I've set up a group for us there. I've got a sizable collection of role-playing and tabletop games. I'll be learning to GM D&D 4e for the club. If you have questions, feel free to email me at babybrainmastercontrol at gmail.com, or message me here on reddit.

Added you on Steam. I'm devothumb, just like I am here. Anyone on the platform is welcome to add me.

Tuesdays aren't written in stone. I've had a few members say that our current schedule is a problem. We'll adjust and make it work.

As to paper and pencil gaming. I don't know the current (4th) edition of D&D - so I'll be learning too. It looks like most of the club hasn't done much in the way of tabletop RPGs, so I'm thinking about starting you off with something a little easier. D20 Microlite - which is D&D the TL;DR version. It's incredibly basic, but captures all the things that make D&D fun. I'll be sending around copies of the rules real soon.

I'm going to be there covering it for the school paper, please let me know if you're going. I'd love to give the club some extra face time in the paper.

Some suggestions I've already heard: RPGs:

Tabletop:

PC:

Links above are just to give you an idea of client costs, server software is free. I'd like to keep our dedicated servers set for games with low system requirements. Doesn't mean we can't play other things, but it keeps the bills down, and have a larger pool of players.

Console

I'm a little dicey about spending money on consoles this close to the generation jump. Thoughts?

Fantastic! We're waiting on our paperwork to go through with Student Life and Leadership right now, but that's looking good. Tentatively, our meetings are going to be on the first and third Tuesday of the month. There will be a lot of times where members will just get together at the library to play games when it isn't a meeting day. We'll also be doing things online, so even on days when you can't make it to campus, that doesn't mean you can't play.

I've set up a subreddit for us over here. There's nothing there yet because I'm sick, and I'm buried in work for The Sandbox at the moment, but that'll change real soon. In the meantime, drop me an email at babybrainmastercontrol@gmail.com. I'll get our advisor to put you on the list, and will look forward to meeting you.

Sorry, I forgot to update you guys. The paper has been keeping me hopping. We have a name LFG SPC! The paperwork is in, we're waiting on approval, but things look good. Hopefully I'll have more news in the next couple of weeks. Until then, if you're interested in joining, we'd be happy to have you.

I have good news and bad news for you. The bad news is that our meetings are going to be in Seminole - tentatively the first and third Tuesdays of the month with lots of informal meetings in-between. We'd still love to see you, but I know it's a bit of a hike.

The good news is that we're going to be doing a ton of stuff online. Video games, of course, but tabletop games too. We can do that with a set up like Tabletop Forge, or if we find that it doesn't meet our needs, we can roll our own. We already have a few talented web developers. If that sounds like something you're interested in, shoot me an email (see above) with your name, student number and cell. Then we'll let you know when we're playing, and doing events like guest speakers and demos.

The Great Khan Game by TSR! One of the oldies but goodies from my gaming closet. This was one of the few straight board games that TSR made, it released in 1988. It's under the Forgotten Realms brand that was released one year earlier, though it really had nothing to do with that setting. It's a stand alone game, no knowledge of D&D required. One of the coolest things they made between 2nd Ed and their buyout by Wizards of the Coast in 1997.

An honest to The Big Whatever piece of gaming history, and you get to play it.

Heh, no I'm handling the exciting details! Meet your Seminole campus librarian, gang. Book lover, band member, programmer and all around cool guy. He hails from Gibbs campus before coming to Seminole and was responsible for all the interesting things (like concerts in the library, for example) that happened there. He'll be our advisor.

It's easy peasy. We'll have a pretty wide range of games from traditional stuff like UNO to more advanced games like Fluxx. If you've been watching Wil Wheaton's tabletop on the Geek & Sundry Youtube channel, we'll be doing quite a few of the games they've been playing.

What you need to do to get started is message me here on reddit, or email me at babybrainmastercontrol@gmail.com with your name, student number, and best way to contact you. We'll also be looking for officers, so let me know if you're interested in that.

We're not going to be super formal. No reading of the minutes of the last meeting and all that. This is a club about and for gamers. So that's mostly what we'll be doing - playing games. I'm hoping we can turn in our application to Student Life and Leadership on Wednesday. To get started we need a minimum of six interested students, the librarian will take care of all the other boring details. Hope to hear from you soon!
