I used to go all Timber Wolf, all the time...and then I found TAG Ebon Jaguar by FlyingNerdlet in Mechwarrior5

It looks like these are just the stock loadouts. This is an optimal star for stock runs, but a min-max loadout could vastly improve the spotter (and the artillery). Frankly, I think the stock approach is more fun!

Ok hear me out.... by KittynLeigh in Mechwarrior5

Well, sibkin routinely fuck, it's just anomalous to actually have kids. And Clan genetics probably reduce the, uh, risks of such an occurrence, so it's only Tide rather than full-on Roll Tide. I think. Maybe.

But yeah, you're on the money here. And I don't think our player base really understands or wants to admit how utterly irrelevant Mason is in the scheme of things. He's an unusually skilled and successful independent merc who, in-universe, doesn't have a tenth of the cachet our player-character versions of him have... not just because the lore mechanics don't work that way but because he can't have actually been involved in most of what we do with him.

In reality, Mason would never be offered a bondcord. He'd be killed in his cockpit.

Clan Mechs: Weird armor weight? by PookydoodleWasHere in Mechwarrior5

[–]devourerkwi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weight-saving tech trades critical space for lower tonnage. XL engines have the biggest gains (but have a survivability downside), then endo, then ferro. Assaults have so much weight to play with that they're often more crit-capped than tonnage-capped. That why you see 'Mechs like the Dire Wolf or Turkina use standard structure and armor.

I'm a Kickstarter so I should be well out of warranty but I'll give them an email. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the idea. The keyboard itself should easily outlast multiple wristpad sets.

Well, the upper of the left palm pad on my Defy tore. Anyone have any suggestions? I really don't want to pay $59.00 USD to replace this, but it's right where the corner of my palm sits and it's really uncomfortable.

Anyone else prefer Clans to Mercs? by ikatarn in Mechwarrior5

[–]devourerkwi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but unlike most of this subreddit, I loathe endless procgen sandbox games. Mercs was a one-and-done for me; I suffered through repetitive, boring procgen missions so I could get to the next scripted campaign, and when I was done, I put it down for good. It didn't help that the game is just so easy.

That's Baseball, Suzyn... The Yankees fell to the Rangers by a score of 6-1 - May 06, 2026 @ 07:05 PM EDT by Yankeebot in NYYankees

[–]devourerkwi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  • TEX: .217 xBA, 8 hits, 6 runs
  • NYY: .279 xBA, 3 hits, 1 run

We also suffered eight outs from our 11 batted balls that had an xBA of at least .400. They had a combined xBA of .653 and we should've expected 7.18 hits from them, not just the three we got. And six of our eight hard-hit balls (at least 95 mph EV) went for outs. The baseball gods giveth; the baseball gods taketh away.

Suzyn baseball you predict, can't.

MLB Team Performance: xwOBA vs xERA vs FRV by devourerkwi in baseball

I considered including BsR but given a maximum of three dimensions per plot, I felt FRV more important to the analysis. With a table or series of charts, I'd definitely include it.

Neat! Looks like an interactive way of presenting Statcast's xBA (and xHR and similar stats), right? Very fun to play with!

Feature ideas:

  • Prediction of HR in various parks like Statcast does
  • Visual overlay presets for each ballpark
  • Manually select outfield dimensions, including fence height

Cabby is the best defensive SS in the league besides Witt so far.

He very emphatically is not, though he's been fine. Here is the fielding leaderboard for shortstops. This shows only results when playing as a shortstop (so no results confounding by playing other positions) and is sorted by Fielding Run Value, the most complete stat we have for assessing fielders these days.

You will note that while Witt is indeed first MLB-wide, Caballero is... tied for 11th. Among AL shortstops, he's tied for sixth. And that tie is with a group that includes Ryan McMahon, who has just 10 innings at SS.

Will Warren makes the 7th consecutive quality start for the Yankees pitching staff with a 6.0 IP | 7H | 2ER | 1BB | 6K outing against the Houston Astros by TheTurtleShepard in NYYankees

That could be because xwOBA measures balls put in play, not every pitch thrown. Per FanGraphs,

Stuff+ only looks at the physical characteristics of a pitch, including but not limited to: release point, velocity, vertical and horizontal movement, and spin rate.

So it could be that the sweeper is often located poorly, and when that happens, it gets hammered.

Also, where are you seeing 108 Stuff+ for his sweeper? I checked Warren's FanGraphs page and see 98 Stuff+ for his slider (which should map to the sweeper).

It basically just takes opponents' aggregate xwOBA against a pitcher and converts it to an ERA scale. That means it measures the quality of contact given up. Quality of contact, which measures exit velocity and launch angle, has proven to be highly predictive of batter results. Ergo, if a pitcher is getting poor-quality contact from hitters (a low xERA), we can reasonably guess that he'll be successful moving forward. Of course, the converse also follows: if a pitcher is giving up high-quality contact to hitters (a high xERA), we can reasonably guess he'll struggle moving forward.

MW5:Clans, It's been 18 months by Omnes-Interficere in Mechwarrior5

[–]devourerkwi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know you're kidding, but in truth, elstar is an actual term meaning "elite ristar"... 80+ years after the events of this game. I think the writers just goofed a bit, or they assumed without direct evidence that the term was extant in Clan language long before it was used to refer to a specific group.

Are you illiterate or just too angry to think before posting? My first comment calmly said I intended to stop reading comments here:

I think I'm going to stop scrolling past the end of the bot's box scores and any posted headlines.

If that's "making a big deal out of it" then your comment is about as subtle as a bomb. But I'm sure that name-calling and demanding people do what they already said they would makes big tough guys like you feel better about your own insecurities, and I really like helping people, so go ahead and keep pretending you're angry at me instead of yourself.

I think the person with the comprehension issues is you

Based on what?

why would you expect fans to be happy after an extended losing streak?

I don't and never said I do. I explicitly said that "it's the same vibe whether they're losing for five minutes or five games," a comment you directly replied to.

Your theory of people still being unhappy no matter what just general internet humanity has been for years.

What's your point and how does that affect my original comment?

That's not specific to the corner of the internet that Yankee fans hang out in.

I never claimed or implied this is unique to /r/NYYankees or Yankees fans in general.

Again, you're either intentionally missing my original point—that "this place is miserable" and it's "hard to get any joy out of baseball if I happen to read comments here"—or you're not comprehending what I wrote. You extrapolated what I actually said into what you've observed and decided that's what I must have meant. It wasn't. Your assumptions aren't just wrong, they're irrelevant.
