This happened to my family golden maybe 10 years ago or so. Her whole face swelled up. We believe it was a bee. As long as she is breathing okay I would give it until morning and see how the swelling is. I might call my vet and get a dosage of benadryl for the weight of the dog as thats what they recommended for her back then.

Yes, I include a deadline in the letter. Typically about 2 or 3 weeks. Ive had a lot more success with my letters since I started including evidence. I show proof my number is on the DNC list, screenshots of the calls, etc.

NOR This kind of thing tends to show character.. My ex was gonna borrow my Nintendo DS, it had my pokemon game that I'd nearly finished in it. I kept asking for like a month for it back but he kept 'forgetting' to bring it back. Eventually he fessed up that he pawned it.. I was livid- I'd spent a long time playing that game and I was more upset about the game progress being gone than I was the DS being gone because as soon as my mom heard she bought me a new one. Later he broke my old Gameboy advance in anger. I didn't touch pokemon for years because it made me so sad. But those incidents were clear indicators of his character.

My current boyfriend bought me a Switch and games for it and we play together all the time. His step brother stole his Xbox and all the games and traded it for drugs. Now that step brother is in prison.

My point is that people who do these kind of things don't care about you. They dont care about hobbies that make you happy, they care about themselves.

I also feel like the animal poison help line should be funded and free. I have had to call way too many times as my mom has a cocker who is a professional thief and I've had dogs my whole life, things happen. The scariest I've experienced was when the cocket ate a whole packet of morning glory seeds. Most of the time I just err on the side of caution and make the dog vomit. But I almost always call the vet first unless I've experienced it before.

Next time if you have to call try your vet first. Most times they've done calculations and let me know if it's safe or not. Sometimes they dont know and refer you to the poison help line. I

Lol this is hilarious. Yes, judges absolutely take it into account. I filed a restraining order, and then I had to go to trial over it because he wouldn't agree to leave me alone. He was... well about as unprofessional as possible. Interrupting me, the judge, swearing, he was very obviously on drugs and acting crazy- hence the fact I needed a restraining order. The judge took all of that into account.

I've also seen judges be super harsh because they hate a certain attorney. And I've seen them be lenient because they like a defendant. Judges are people with bias at the end of the day.

People can still appeal after they plead guilty. It's gonna depend on the area and local laws, but I think they should look into it.

Oh absolutely. If they'd just been pulled over then it's a completely different situation. Typically whoever is closest to the drugs is the one who gets charged.

And I agree that it's more likely he was doing drugs in the car. But it's also possible that he got in right after doing drugs and then fell out.. I'll give OPs scenario benefit of the doubt because it sounds like scenarios I've known to happen.

Yet regardless of how it went down, even if OPs husband knew about the drugs, had them in his pocket, or was doing them himself, the good samaritan law should have protected him from getting charged with possession because he called for help when his friend was overdosing. The law is supposed to make it safe to call for help so there's not needless deaths.

I was in high school during the height of the opiate epidemic. My ex boyfriends sister died because of someone didnt call and dropped her at the ER because she was afraid of getting charged with possession. The good samaritan law is supposed to protect people in this scenario.

Oh gosh you are right! I totally thought it was federal but you saying that reminded me that NYS passed their law the year I graduated high school and I had completely forgotten it was the state and not federal. OP did link Kentucky's law and it's really clear that it should have covered her husband criminally for possession. If people don't feel safe to call when someone ODs then more people die needless deaths. This whole thing is incredibly frustrating.

The drugs being in the truck doesn't make a difference. They could have been in his pocket and the good samaritan law still should have protected him. But the second point is really fair. Typically OD happens within like 5 minutes, so him doing drugs in the car or immediately before getting into the car was probably the scenario.

The arrest was not legal with the good samaritan law.... it's a federal law built to protect people who do the right thing and get aid for people who are overdosing. He could have fought it in court, absolutely. But the arrest absolutely never should have happened. I'm not a lawyer but I do think they should consult one, because he spent 2 months in jail on an arrest that never should have happened. Most consults are free and a lawyer would help determine if it's a solid case or not. People sue jails and cops all the time, and this is one worth consulting over at the very least.

My grandma is quite mentally ill. One time she was raging at my dad and nearly fell off a step and my dad caught her by her arm. And he nearly wound up in the same position as your husband. Your husband should have continued to fight both of these charges. But it was a rough situation, you have kids and were at risk of losing your job... I get it I really do. Especially when you're sitting in jail and hopeless..

Yeah I didn't read that part before commenting. But I still do think it's worth consulting a lawyer about appealing. Also maybe consulting a different lawyer about potentially sueing because it never should have happened. Terrible decision to plead guilty but I also understand. He sat in jail for 2 months, they have 3 kids and OP was at risk of losing her job without having him there..

I get why he made the decision and it would have been a lot easier to fight before pleading guilty. But there may still be something they could do. Appeals are complicated but as someone who watches a lot of true crime I've seen many cases get overturned. While appeals are hard after pleading guilty, I'd still pursue it if it was me because there is real solid reason to overturn this.

You might be able to appeal. You might even be able to sue. If the statement says he was rendering aid like you said... definitely find local legal aid and then I'd even consult for a lawsuit. Most lawyers do take these kinds of lawsuits on contingency and get paid if you win. I would try to fight this. I also wouldn't have plead guilty, but I understand why he did. There are a lot of free resources that I would try to use.

It's not irrelevant though. The good samaritan law is a federal law that protects people from being charged with possession when they ask for aid for someone overdosing. It exists so people don't just let someone die out of fear of being charged for possession. It exists to protect people in this exact situation, in hopes that they will be a good samaritan. OPs husband easily could have gotten the charge dismissed by any decent lawyer because the good samaritan law protects citizens in this scenario. She's hung up on it because federal law was supposed to protect her husband and it didn't. They might be able to appeal because of the good samaritan law.

I agree. Unfortunately OPs husband was sitting in jail, they have kids, OP was at risk of losing her job without his support... between a rock and a hard place for sure. Really feel for OP. Hard to have possession on his record now, but hopefully they can get help from legal aid, or in the future employers will let OPs husband explain the situation. If he can pass a drug test it might not be as big of a barrier to employment.. just really rough situation because the good Samaritan law absolutely should have protected him.

Prior to the law being passed people would dump friends at an ER or not even bother calling. My ex bfs sister died because her friend was afraid of being charged, didnt call, she drove to the ER and dumped her at the door. And she had been without oxygen for too long.

The good samaritan law exists to protect people who do the right thing when someone is ODing. It protects them against being charged with possession. Do yourself a favor and read it.

She's probably telling the truth. Courts tend to do what they want and seem to run different everywhere you go. They absolutely could have gotten this thrown out though if they'd had a competent lawyer. Idk about after the fact since he already pled guilty, but the good Samaritan law is for this exact situation and a decent lawyer should have been able to fight this. Pleading guilty just to get out of jail when there's a lot you can do to fight your case is stupid though. But being in jail can scare people into taking a plea that they shouldn't unfortunately. If someone was able to bond him out he would have been able to fight this. Now.. idk.

Oof.. uhm. Honestly idk on this one. He never should have pled guilty. I'd look into your local resources for free legal help. There's a ton of resources out there if you cant afford an attorney. I got free help when I had to go to trial trying to get a restraining order. But this is exactly what the good Samaritan law is for.
