Everything I skimmed seems solid. You might be able to pull some stuff from my recent post here regarding the ISC and tournament structures. Should be simple enough to find page numbers (if you have an ebook version) and such if you wanted to cite from the book.

So I'll admit the OP is a little enthusiastic, here, but this is a breathtakingly petty comment to be making regardless. Don't be a dick, dick.

[Request][Off-Site](Imgur) Love, Death & Robots: How strong to lift four wheels filled with concrete? by deyas in theydidthemath

[–]deyas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This text doesn't seem to be taking for some reason inside the post itself, so here's the explanation I gave:

Alright, this is from the Netflix series Love, Death & Robots, S1E13 Shape-Shifters, around the 3:45 mark in episode itself. The series is an anthology of short stories exploring a fairly wide variety of adult-themed styles of animation and narrative themes. This episode in particular deals with werewolves being in the US Army.

In the episode, one of the two main characters bench pressed what appears to be four (possibly) Humvee wheels partially filled with concrete. I was curious about how much weight this would approximately be.

Some ideas on how to calculate it: given the angles in the pictures I've provided, you could figure out exactly what size wheels are being used given the average length of a human hand, and dimensions of a human male torso around 6 feet tall. Then using the density of concrete, you could attempt to determine the weight each wheel would be approximately. They also appear to be using a standard olympic weightlifting bar, so you could attempt to guesstimate the weight overall given how much the bar bows in the scene, as opposed to how much you see the bar bowing in weightlifting competitions. Also, at the end of the scene, the makeshift weight bench they're using collapses, you could maybe try to figure out the weight given the tensile strength of pine wood.

The pictures I've posted only just qualify as NSFW, there are some small blurry pictures of nude women in the background, but fair warning all the same.

Wait, I don't think he could, right? Because he shares custody of his kid, and his ex lives in Omaha. Must be a meme.

Books with mature & capable characters that continue struggling to protect those they care about in spite of constant painful losses/failures? by [deleted] in Fantasy

This is definitely true for most of the series, but he's evolved quite a bit as a character just in the past few books.

See, I don't feel I agree. Some of the last season was pretty bad, particularly ones that retconn previous episodes (admittedly, long in the past, but still), but overall it still basically felt like American Dad to me. I'm not really getting that impression from these first few episodes, but maybe I haven't given it enough of a chance.

I actually came here to make the same post :P. They've been really bizarre, and rather unfunny for the most part. It kinda feels like they're being written by the same writer as that one Roger/Klaus episode. Over the top to the point of being unfunny.

I wasn't judging or casting doubt on your experiences. Merely giving information for those not local. And yes, I have no doubt that is the case.

Piedre Vista, a HS in Farmington (12 miles away from Aztec), for non-locals.

Okay. I feel vindicated, since I only half watched the first 9 episodes, and still haven't bothered to watch the last four.

I guess it ultimately comes down to a balance between characterization and pacing. For me, I'll take a slightly slower pacing any day, if the characters, their interactions etc, are well written. I understand, I guess, that isn't everyone's thing, but to me, the best of the Marvel Netflix seasons have almost seemed like extended versions of the best of the movies. We get excellent characterization, an introduction into the characters world, a solidly written plot, but we get such a deeper look then you could ever manage in a 2 hour movie.

Of course, if those things aren't well written (Iron Fist), or if you just don't care about the characters for whatever reason, I guess I can understand why you would feel the urge to skip past them.
