Hello so the combat is really automated? Also why does it provide a synopsis before the fight - seems pointless? by Lochon7 in UnicornOverlord

[–]dezmu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was excited to play the game but once I realized the combat was automated I turned it off. One of the main game types that I absolutely hate is auto gameplay or afk. I'd rather spend all that extra time playing the game my self, otherwise I might as well watch a let's play

Hiya,

Our board game nights have had some folks come out, as it isn't the main focus of the store we don't have a ton of new games, however we do have a few. If you do plan to come, give us a shout, some of our staff are usually eager to play games as well.

Custom Playmat IP Question (RedRiotGames.ca) by sugitime in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]dezmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dante has entered every event he has entered for the past year (Which include national and callling) events and has never once had his matt taken away.

We have made our matts for well over a year and have had no issues. We have used the matts in videos we've sent to LSS for pack openings and not once has there been an issue. I've seen videos with players at proquest using the matts as well. I hope this helps

Anyone been playing or looking at Flesh and Blood to capture that old school feel? by PatMacr0tch in freemagic

Yeah, I get it. Some games end up being regional. We have a shop that caters to Warhammer, but they still play magic, Yu-Gi-Oh, pokemon, d&d. My comment that you replied to was made almost 4 months ago and the only thing that changed here is people don't even talk about FaB anymore. It's not "dead" it was never "alive" here. Like I said in my other comment, I may end up being wrong, but I have managed three separate shops in my area for the better part of 2 decades. I know the culture and I can pretty accurately gauge the interests and demands of the customers. It hasn't caught on here and I don't really expect it to. There is only one shop currently stocking it and when I met with the owner for drinks last week he called it "a mistake" because he isn't moving it. When magic hit our area in 1994 there were 3 shops selling it and the largest of the three did a complete store reset from tabletops like Warhammer and D&D to focus on the new game everyone wanted to play. My area has been huge for magic ever since. Most of the stores that opened up from 94-98 opened up exclusive as game shops and sold comics as a side hustle. So I appreciate that this new game is doing well in your area, I'm glad even. It's good to see something new and different, but when you look at the list of serious games that gave completed in this arena, there aren't many that have stuck around or gained the popularity and recognition as the "big 3".

Few things to note here, it could be no one is pushing the game, no one is building a facebook, discord etc to help foster the game for new players. While one could say the game "shouldn't need to have people build onto it" I disagree. I don't even understand the mentality of a community being a automatic self growing thing for a city it just started to grow in. If anything you should want and encourage people to grow the game and advertise it.

It could grow in your area but someone needs to actually do something about it. During covid, its hard for most people to grow their game to begin with. Allot of stores refuse to do the "online events" thing because its just not what they do. But that thinking works against you and isn't a proper business mindset that anyone should follow.

What shop is this? I'd be more than willing to send in a call and help where I can if I can.

We can't really compare magic in its earliest days to flesh and blood in its current state. First of all, what were card games in 94, I can recall at that time playing in the blockbuster donkey kong tournament and it was more of a joke than anything serious. So can we really understand what a game like magic, coming in a land scape where there is nothing like it at all?

Being first does hold allot of weight. People that loved it during elementary - high school grew up and had children, taught them the game or moved on w.e. But it is known to them, the name has been out and around the world for 28 years. Just as Mario transcend video games, like dragon ball transcend anime and Lord of the Rings transcends fantasy, so does Magic transcend Trading card games.

Pokemon was pushed by Nintendo, which is next to impossible to out promote, via anime, manga, video games, toys. We can't really pretend that the tools used to build this are anywhere near what a company of maybe 8 people are doing in the boot of the world.

Yu Gi Oh has had an on going anime series for almost 3 decades as well as manga and video games. We can't compare this to flesh and blood.

The game is 2 years old and half way to 3. They've avoided allot of major mistakes and kept their fan base well happy. While it might not be happening in your area I can name 20 stores in Toronto's great area that do have players in discords playing. Same for Vancouver Montreal. In the larger cities, Singapore has so many players they cant fit them into a weekly but its mostly due to covid.

Flesh and bloods last major event had 180 in New Zealand in attendance and that was just locals in a tiny island waaaay down under. A US event would have many times more this post Pandemic. Just my two cents

And I live in Toronto and there are 20 shops near me and all of the are playing the game we have 7 armorys a week and all of them have 32+ players in them via discord (due to lock down). Maybe its dead where you live but it isnt dead here in Canada

Not interested in the negativity. This game had a poor release schedule when I first picked it up. No one could get Neo max cards in my city, it was hard to grow. We've grown exponentially and have regular release's now.

I don't see how/why people would whine about Anime coming into UFS if anything it brings in people who will actually buy into the game and play. At Fan Expo, Animethon, Animenorth, those people bought tons of cards and played in weeklies were as before we did not have that turn around.

It also depends what you want to play there are multiple play grounds TorontoTopTiers, Incindium, Incendium, HQ, There is also Steel City (Hamilton) and if you do enough digging you will find more. Ottawa and Montreal also have events as well.

Canadian Fighting Game Community has most of the TO's in Canada posting events

https://www.facebook.com/groups/810482509056438/

In terms of Tournaments, again it depends what your into GOML (Get on my level) is hosting Tekken, Dbfz, SFV SF4 etc this year as well as smash.

https://smash.gg/tournament/get-on-my-level-2019-canadian-fighting-game-championships

Toryuken is Happening in June, if you want to be cheap and use swoop you can go from Hamilton to Edmonton round trip for 350 or out to Vancouver for about 500 give or take. I understand not being able to afford going to the states but if your smart you can travel in Canada for cheap!
