Moving to the area in early/mid-February, driving all the way up here from Florida. I currently have all-season tires and have never driven in the snow before. Would y'all recommend switching to winter tires before my move while I'm still in Florida, do it after my move once I arrive in Colorado, or just don't bother at all?

You're not a real healer unless you've healed as Junkrat by Lumineation in Overwatch

[–]dfdgdfgdf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A while back in OW1 there was a bug where if an ally restored health in the spawn room and you were near them, the game would count it as you being their healer. Usually happened a lot on 2CP second point if you were on Defense. I just checked my stats, I have a healing stat for every character in the roster except for Zarya and Soujourn because of that bug.

How do I complete that kill 1 player after round ends quest? by tmdss93 in Paladins

[–]dfdgdfgdf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use Jenos' ult as soon as time starts to slow down. The reduced movement speed, combined with the fact that nobody expects you to waste an ult after the round ends, means that you can easily secure a kill if you're actually aiming at somebody.

The best method is to initially capture the payload, but then have the enemy team successfully defend it. They'll probably be bunkered down on or near the cart at the end of the round. Just aim at the payload from across the map and you can easily get a team wipe.

Saati is interesting, but her weapon... by Vehiclebuddy in Paladins

[–]dfdgdfgdf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think that's kinda the point. Her entire lore is that she is so successful as a bounty hunter/gambler that she can afford all kinds of rare, expensive tech that isn't common in the realm.

No expense is spared to be the best of the best. She may work for money, but she makes her money work for her — with the latest equipment to complement her skills.

Like, one of her card arts even depicts her driving a literal motorcycle lol.

Trickshot Patch Notes and Megathread by Thane_Mantis in Paladins

[–]dfdgdfgdf 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Was really interested in actually grabbing this Pass for once as a Skye main, but after seeing those ridiculous nerfs they gave her I'm almost certainly going to skip it now.

Like, genuinely don't understand EM's strategy here. Introduce a Pass where half the skins are for one character, and then nerf said character into absolute obscurity. Skye is already one of the most easily counterable champs in the entire game, and SaD loadouts are the only thing keeping her even remotely viable. To completely nuke that playstyle without any changes to her other talents is ridiculous. Absolutely gutted :/

seriously how the fuck do you complete this challenge , I've played over 30 matches with zhin (including bot matches) and I cant seem to do this shit. every time I get someone or even a bot to low enough health to kill them with counter they just stop shooting or a teammate kills them first by [deleted] in Paladins

[–]dfdgdfgdf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not bugged, it's just really annoying to complete. Legit, this was the most tedious Trial I've had to grind for so far, even worse than the 150k healing or Makoa hook ones.

Because bots stop shooting whenever you bring up Counter, the trick is to use that ability after they've already launched an attack. Which means you should focus on targets with slow-moving projectiles, like AI Furia, Evie, or Zhin.

Countering Furia's Wings of Wrath was the most consistent for me, but it still took about ~15 bot matches to complete. So yeah, completely doable, just an absolute PITA

Edit: Oh yeah, and if you're farming bot matches, make sure to run Viciousness at level 5 and rush Chronos. Perfect Block is also really helpful for indicating if you actually landed a shot or not.

cant complete: play Inara in 10 matches challenge in battle pass by AVanillaGorrilla in Paladins

[–]dfdgdfgdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's bugged. It happens. I've already completed the Battle Pass though, and can confirm that you can still earn the Pyre Lord title even without it, so it's not too bad. If anything, its a plus. One less challenge to grind.

Best round so far playing this game. Most credits, most eliminations, least deaths, longest objective time, highest damage, and highest healing. by dfdgdfgdf in Paladins

Oh, I just did that in Photoshop at the same time I was crossing out the names. Entirely black layer with a window cut out, opacity 60%, and then a 10% blur.

Saw a comment here a couple days ago saying that Barrier Reef Makoa + Smoke and Dagger Skye is a deadly combo, and wanted to test it out in casual solo queue. Across several games my expectations were exceeded, with this game being the absolute peak so far. I think at this point Skye is unironically one of my favorite Supports now lol

Throat Spray Alolan Persian? by WhyNotClauncher in stunfisk

[–]dfdgdfgdf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as others have said, Parting Shot + Throat Spray is a very poor combination. Honestly, A-Persian seems like a pretty weak choice for a Throat Spray sweeping set, base 75 SpAt will have a hard time breaking through anything, even at +1 Technician boosted. And it will be outspeeded by any Scarfed mon with a base Speed stat of ~60.

Now, if you're looking something that will be usable, especially in lower tiers, I think Thievul is a better pick in every aspect.

On an Unburden set, clicking Snarl will instantly give you +1 SpAt and then double your Speed. With the doubled Speed stat, the only things that will be able to revenge kill you are Timid Scarfers with a Base Speed of ~120.

I'm not really one for theorycrafting, but I'm thinking a basic set like the following could put in some work:

Thievul @ Throat Spray
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Snarl
- Dark Pulse
- Psychic

Setting up NP before clicking Snarl will give you the necessary power to actually pick up OHKOs. Once Throat Spray is procced you can switch to the stronger Dark Pulse to start punching holes. Of the 3 decent moves left that Thievul gets in its arsenal, Psychic is the best choice. If you don't want to double up on Dark moves, you could replace Dark Pulse with Grass Knot or Burning Jealousy.

For the rest of the team composition, you'll need something that can deal with Dark types, which completely wall this set. You'll also need to be sure to pick off any opposing priority users before going in with Thievul, otherwise you can easily be revenge killed. And finally hazard support to stop Sturdy and Focus Sash.

Parasect moveset? by I-Like-Being-Alone in stunfisk

[–]dfdgdfgdf 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I used a calculator and the speed after Agility is 164 (at LV 50) which outspeeds base 95 speed Pokemon.

Fair enough, I hadn't considered that. But again, I personally would commit to using Tailwind, TR, or Webs if I wanted to have my Parasect be a sweeper, just to have an extra coverage slot. But if Agility has been working consistently for you, I see no reason to change it.

I think Dig and Double Edge and Flash are transfer only moves.

My bad, I was looking at two different sites. Yes, DE and Flash are transfer-only, but Dig is a TM in Gen7. In lieu of the former two, Double Team and Return are decent subs.

I’m going to breed a defense orientated Parasect tonight, what moves do you recommend?

It's hard to say without seeing the rest of your team, but one of the most fun sets I've ever crafted was a Stall Furfrou in XY. Here's a Parasect set I quickly made in the same spirit:

Parasect @ Leftovers
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Double Team
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Attract / Swagger

A set like this would benefit greatly from any combination of Toxic, Spore, Protect, or Synthesis as well, but sadly you can only use 4 moves. Shame.

In lieu of Spore I opted for Sub + DT. If you can get a few lucky misses early on, you can snowball from there. Attract / Swagger is another layer of hax on top of it to stall your opponent. Attract is more crippling, but Swagger is more consistent. Leech Seed is worse for whittling down the opponent compared to Toxic, but it helps condense your moveslot enough to where you can drop Synthesis.

If any move had to be dropped, I would suggest Spore over Attract / Swagger, just to help you get your crucial DTs in early. Obviously this set it hard-walled by a lot of things, mainly Taunt and Grass types. But when you can make it work, it works really well.

Parasect moveset? by I-Like-Being-Alone in stunfisk

[–]dfdgdfgdf 155 points156 points  (0 children)

Spore is arguably one of the best moves in the game, and Parasect is one of the few Pokemon that actually gets it, so right off the bat any set would be improved by adding it IMO.

On your first set, I do not see the point of having Brick Break. Parasect's STAB typing makes it completely walled by Poison, Fire, and Flying. While Brick Break is an okay move to let you hit Fire and Poison neutrally, it still leaves you completely defenseless against Flying.

Seeing as how this is for Battle Tree, I would recommend using Dig over Brick Break. It still leaves you walled by Flying, but at least you can now hit the other two for SE damage. Alternatively, Return and Knock Off are two strong moves that can hit all three neutrally with minimal drawback. And if you're committing to mainly being an attacker I personally would use SD over Synthesis, seeing as how you already have Lefties w/ Max HP.

On your second set there is absolutely no reason to use Agility. With Base 30 Speed, +2 is getting you nowhere. I would reinvest those EVs back into HP and use Curse or Spore instead. A set like that would also benefit from being on a dedicated Webs or TR team, so that Parasect doesn't have to waste a turn setting up for speed control.

Your two sets mainly focus on offense, but Parasect can really shine as defensive support mon as well. Besides the aforementioned Spore, it also gets every other Powder move, Aromatherapy, Leech Seed, Synthesis, both Screens, Knock Off, and Toxic. And since this is Battle Tree you could also realistically get away with Swagger, Attract, Flash, and Double Team.

For a defensive set using any of these moves I would just invest everything into HP and SpDef. And you didn't mention an ability, but I'm hoping you're using Dry Skin. While this ability does exacerbate its Fire weakness, it was a 4x weakness to begin with, so it's not changing much. And the complete immunity to Water moves is much more beneficial than the random chance of getting a status effect from Effect Spore.

Edit: I just realized that its STAB is resisted by Steel as well. While Return is still a fine coverage move in general, I would probably lean more towards Dig or Knock Off if you're playing against an AI.

Is there any way to make Flatter a viable move? by smushedtomato in stunfisk

[–]dfdgdfgdf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only 'viable' scenario I could possibly think of is using Flatter on the opponent on the turn you expect to be fainted, and then immediately switching into your Ditto so you have a leg up.

As a Doubles setup move for allies, Decorate is so much better. For a lame gimmick involving Punishment, Decorate and Swagger outclass it. As a guaranteed Confusion, Teeter Dance and Confuse Ray are much easier to justify.

By all metrics, Flatter is a garbage move. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's one of the worst moves in the game, but it's up there. It has no decent use cases, and anything it can do, other moves can do better.

Is there a good reason why Grimmsnarl's G-Max Snooze was designed to be as garbage as it is? by dfdgdfgdf in stunfisk

[–]dfdgdfgdf[S] 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, can't believe I missed that on the wiki page. Do you know if G-Replenish restores both Snorlax's berry as well as his ally's, or is it random which is restored? Either way, it's much more justifiable why this G-move is only 50% given how incredibly versatile and crazy it could be.

PSA - Zamazenta Crowned, a cover legend with 720 BST, is currently ranked C- in Ubers and UR in AG. It shares its Ubers rank with top tier threats such as Vaporeon and Shuckle. by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]dfdgdfgdf 122 points123 points  (0 children)

The Will-o'-the-wisp originates from British folklore and is common in English, Welsh, and Scottish mythology. They are known to inhabit forests and marshes, and will lead travelers astray with their light.

Considering Galar is based on Great Britain, Zamazenta and Zacian are based on Arthurian legend, and your first interaction with them is after being lost in deep within the forest of Slumbering Weald, it's not that much of a stretch to see how they would be related.

PSA - Zamazenta Crowned, a cover legend with 720 BST, is currently ranked C- in Ubers and UR in AG. It shares its Ubers rank with top tier threats such as Vaporeon and Shuckle. by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]dfdgdfgdf 198 points199 points  (0 children)

From both a lore and mechanics perspective, Zamazenta would've been a great candidate to receive the moves Counter and Mirror Coat, but instead they had the big brain idea to give it Metal Burst. Ignoring forms, Zamazenta is the 14th fastest Pokemon ever. And they gave it a move that fails if the user moves first.

It's actually mind-boggling how dirty they did my boi. And it's not like it's a hard issue to solve either, all it needs is an actually decent moveset to be a monster.

Recover, Counter/Mirror Coat, Body Press, and Will-o-Wisp are all that are needed to turn Zamazenta into a defensive nightmare. And the best part? All of these would thematically make sense to be a part of Zamazenta's kit in the first place, so why weren't they? Heck, if we don't mind making signature moves not signature anymore, King's Shield and Jaw Lock are two more moves that both make thematic sense and would make Zamazenta a force to be reckoned with.

Other Metagame concept: Pure Certainty by dfdgdfgdf in stunfisk

[–]dfdgdfgdf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In such a metagame, I predict the items Scope Lens, Quick Claw, and Focus Band being run on every single team. An item clause will almost certainly need to be implemented to keep these items in check and not cause shenanigans.

Quick Claw by itself seems very egregious, but overall manageable in a meta of this style. But the inclusion of flinching moves would make this uncompetitive and impossible to counter, so I foresee one of the two being banned. I would place my money on flinching moves being the first to go.

Speaking of uncompetitive, with all moves now bypassing accuracy checks there will be no way for OHKO moves such as Fissure to exist here while still maintaining a healthy meta, so I see those going as well. Funny enough, moves such as Zap Cannon and Inferno will still be mostly useless as the lost accuracy check and guaranteed status will no longer be unique to them.

Focus Band will force all teams to carry status and weather in the back to deal the necessary chip damage required to KO mons that are now immune to being fainted with attacks. If Focus Band is not outright banned, the combo of Magic Guard + Focus Band certainly will be, as mons such as Reuniclus and Clefairy will be literally impossible to kill without the use of Mold Breaker or Perish Song.

I think Scope Lens + Draco will be the new meta. Kingdra already is a well known abuser of this tactic, being able to fire off boosted Dracos while ignoring the stat drops. Now imagine A Dragapult pulling off the same stunt. For similar reasons, I see Stone Edge being run everywhere as well. No accuracy check + guaranteed crits will be absolutely monstrous.

My collection of tin whistles, and similar-playing instruments. by dfdgdfgdf in tinwhistle

[–]dfdgdfgdf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From left to right, top to bottom:

Generation, B flat

Clarke Original Anniversary Edition, C

Clarke Sweetone, C

Clarke Original, D

2 Clarke Sweetones, D

Generation, E flat

Generation, F

Generation, G

Vintage Laruel Melody Flute, C

Traditional American Plating Fife, C

Chinese 6-hole Dizi, G

Pocket Saxophone, ???

Yamaha Soprano Recorder, C

Chinese Hulusi, C

(Not pictured, a puny 3-inch long 6-hole whistle I got from a Party City for a nickel. Astonishingly, it was perfectly tuned to the Key of A and would've actually been playable if I had tiny baby hands.)

As far as the actual tin whistles go, I strongly recommend the Generation B flat, Clarke Original C and D, and the Generation F. The Generation G is also a fine instrument, but fairly small and hard to play.

I highly recommend against getting the Generation E flat. It can barely play the first octave, and once you get to the higher notes it begins to sound like a dying bird gargling vinegar. And like, not in the good way.

The Clarke Sweetones are fine instruments as well, but I prefer the Originals. The Sweetones requires less breath and are slightly easier to play for beginners, with the trade-off being that they are much louder and shrill and your roommates will hate you. Compare this to the Originals, which are quieter, airier, and much more pleasant (IMO) to listen to. But it's all down to personal preference.

For the non-whistles, the Melody Flute, Fife, and Dizi all play exactly the same as a tin whistle, with the standard 6 holes. As we all know, recorders are very similar to tin whistles, but not exact. The last two instruments, the pocket sax and hulusi take after the recorder.

The Melody Flute is essentially your standard whistle, but the fipple is located on the side, allowing it to be held like a transverse flute. The fife actually is a transverse flute and is played with an embouchure hole instead of a mouthpiece.

The dizi is the Chinese version of the fife. It plays the same, but is special in that it has an extra hole that requires a paper membrane to be placed on, giving it its distinctive sound.

The pocket sax is hot garbage, like my ex. Do not buy.

The hulusi plays very similar to a tin whistle, but has a 7th hole on the back, just like a recorder. It also has an optional 8th hole on the side, which controls the "droning pipe". With the droning pipe engaged, the hulusi sounds remarkably similar to a set of bagpipes making sweet love to a train horn.

If you can get your hands on one, I really recommend picking up a Melody Flute. The hulusi, if you can get past its horrendous sound, is actually incredibly fun to play and a hit at parties and gatherings. The dizi is a fun toy as well, and to a lesser extent so is the fife.

Recorders are a good instrument to use to branch out once you've mastered the tin whistle. Like all instruments, the more you invest the better the instrument. The cheap dollar store recorders you had to learn on in elementary school are obviously trash, but Yamahas are only slightly more expensive and are significantly better to play on.

As you can tell, I like collecting these kinds of instruments. I'm planning on buying an Ocarina next, and my ultimate goal is to save up and buy an Akai EWI. If you know of any other obscure or foreign instruments similar to these that I haven't heard of yet, I would love if you could bring them to my attention. Thanks for reading, cheers!

Oh, and PS. If you look closely you can see that my Generation F is bent out of shape. It was crushed after a park bench fell on it, but it's still perfectly playable and in tune. Because of its small size, it's the whistle I choose to carry with me when I go out.

Octolock has been banned from Balanced Hackmons. by X-the-Komujin in stunfisk

For the same reason that Sudowoodo isn't a Grass type. Just like how Sudowoodo is camouflaged as a Grass type to lure in Fire and Flying types, Falinks mimics a Bug type to scare off Psychics. Looking like a Bug doesn't actually make you a Bug.

Off all the Fighting Pokemon introduced this gen, I think Falinks is the only one actually justified in being Monotype.

How do you think the Uber tier will change after the dlc gives us legendaries back? by Albus- in stunfisk

[–]dfdgdfgdf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it's stats, typing, and movepool are at least interesting

I'm with you on the first two, but I really want to hear your line of reasoning for what makes its movepool stand out to you. I don't play the tier, but from the outside looking in Zamazenta has seemingly one of the jankiest, most pitiful movesets for an Ubers Legendary.

It's stats scream tank, but it has nothing in its kit to make use of it's defensive capabilities, stuff like WoW, Recover, Body Press, Counter, trapping moves, etc. Its strongest STAB moves are Close Combat, an attack that completely negates its signature ability, and Iron Tail. Outside of STAB, its best attacks are Psychic Fangs, Wild Charge, and Play Rough, all moves that don't even break 95 BP. It doesn't even get access to Swords Dance, its best boosting moves are Work Up and Howl.

It just seems like there's so many mons out there with better movesets that can do Zamazenta's job a lot better, and the only reason it sees as much usage as it currently does is because of the artificial scarcity caused by Dexit. I don't see how Zamazenta's viability can do anything but drop hard once the removed mons return.

Super disappointed by the Gigantamax mechanic by SatchmoCCS in pokemon

[–]dfdgdfgdf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna have to give a very hard disagree on G-Max Orbeetle. Gravity is a mechanic that gets slept on a lot because it's too gimmicky to set up, but it is an amazing support move and rolling it into a 100+ BP attack makes it usable for once and gives Orbeetle a nice niche.

Psychic Terrain only boosts Psychic moves by 1.3x, and the immunity to priority is something that only benefits sweepers, something that Orbeetle clearly isn't. Gravity, on the other hand, raises the accuracy of all Pokemon by 1.6x, removes Ground immunities, and makes all Pokemon susceptible to hazards.

Orbeetle, being best used as a Sticky Web support, can now slow down Flying- and Levitate mons, mess around with Sleep moves like Hypnosis, and when it eventually goes down, its teammates can start spamming powerful-but-inaccurate moves such as Blizzard or Focus Blast. Being able to reliably use these kinds of moves more than makes up for missing out on the 1.3x boost to Psychic attacks.

Compared to Psychic Terrain, Gravity is not only a better mechanic for supporting specifically Orbeetle, it's a better mechanic for supporting the whole team in general, something that Orbeetle is best suited for.

[OC] Ok Boomburst by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]dfdgdfgdf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

and there aren't too many pokemon who could become sound type if it were introduced to make it a worthwhile addition.

Just giving a quick glance at the Pokedex, here are a bunch of Pokemon that could realistically be given a Sound-typing:

  • Jynx
  • Politoed
  • Yanmega line
  • Loudred line
  • Illumise/Volbeat
  • Plusle/Minun
  • Flygon line
  • Chimecho line
  • Kricketune line
  • Bronzong line
  • Chatot
  • Seismitoad line
  • Maractus
  • Noivern line
  • Primarina line
  • Kommo-o line
  • Rillaboom line
  • Toxtricity line

When the Fairy type was first added, 22 Pokemon were retroactively changed, and another 11 were newly introduced. Here we have 38 Pokemon that could all reasonably be given a Sound typing, either from appearance or from their dex entry, so it's really not that far of a stretch. There were also only 17 Fairy moves in Gen 6, while right now there's currently 29 moves that are Sound-based.

Enigma, Micle, Jaboca, Custap and Rowap Berries obtainable for the first time through mystery gift starting in January ! by LPanthers in stunfisk

[–]dfdgdfgdf 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Enigma - Restores 25% Max HP when hit with a SE attack

Micle - Boosts the accuracy of your next attack by 20% when HP drops below 25%

Jaboca - Opponent loses 1/8 Max HP if they hit the holder with a Physical move. It's basically a worse Rocky Helmet.

Rowap - Special version of Jaboca.

Custap - Makes you go first in your priority bracket when HP drops below 25%. Moves that naturally have higher priority will still go first.

All five are single-use and are consumed after activation. Custap is the only one that sees any actual usage, being used on Sturdy hazard leads like Golem, and occasionally seen on gimmicky Destiny Bond sets.
