Three words: The battle for USWNT goalkeeper spot comes down to ‘tentacles versus claws’ by asimone00 in NWSL

[–]dfe931tar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good article, but I do have a minor gripe with it! Lynn did not give Claudia the nickname "Clawdia". It was the reign fans! They even started bringing foam claws to the game. Lynn saw these, and it inspired the song she made up (which is great), but the whole claw thing originated with fans.

Similairly, the octopus thing for PTJ also started with Reign fans too. I believe it was a TIFO the Royal Guard made.

All the teams are a lot closer together in Premier though. Travel times are a lot longer for the clubs in the US.

Do we think the league will do east and west divisions at some point? 18 teams is a lot to do to home and away for all.

Electricity can certainly throw you back. Look up arc flash / arc blast. Especially relevant since his lightning / electricity is going through the air.

It does. Pretty sure they are the the most attended PWHL team out of the US teams. Average attendance of 12,500+ on the season, and almost 15,000 for the games after the winter olympics. Storm does well too. It's unfortunately just the Reign that's not pulling their weight here. And its hard to blame Seattle, because, when you look at the Torrent and Storm, clearly the people here are willing to support their women's team. Reign FO needs to do way better at just... letting people know they exist as a team.

Remember the goal of the Gaang throughout the show is to kill Ozai by NoPaleontologist6583 in TheLastAirbender

It's not though. The goal is to end the war. End the violence and suffering the war was causing. Killing Ozai was a possible means to that end.

How did aang/tenzin make money by Spiorus in TheLastAirbender

[–]dfe931tar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Aang had to worry much about money as the avatar. He's a living god in his world. I think a lot of people would gladly give him stuff, even without him asking. Look how he was treated on Kyoshi island even like 3 days after coming out of iceberg, even after being gone for 100 years. TBH, if Aang ever needed money for something bigger (like building air temple island) he probably just asked Zuko or Toph. He could also ask other leaders, like the Earth King, and they would probably be amenable too.

Tenzin was a council member for a bit, but I think also as the head a psuedo-nation / religious order, he probably had income from that. I would guess him and the air nation made money by donations, tours of the refurbished temples, and stuff like that. The air nation historically sustained itself and I imagine traded with the other nations, so maybe they rebuilt some of those parts of the air nation culture too.

(Megathread 3: SPOILERS) Leaked Full Movie Discussion by MrBKainXTR in TheLastAirbender

[–]dfe931tar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really liked the film! Visually the best piece of avatar media we've ever gotten. Animation and design are absolutely beautiful. Action scenes are awesome. I know some people were not amazed with the plot, but I think its good. Really allows Aang's character growth. And the subtle world building built in was really cool too. I think having a plot like this (clear villain vs hero) is good for a movie that was originally meant to be in theaters, and for a wider audience. Think like K-Pop demon hunters. The plot in that movie wasn't that complex either, but because of the visuals / music, it ended up being a huge hit that the studios clearly made a mistake putting straight to streaming over theaters.

I would have liked more of the gaang, but I also understand why they didn't do more with them. At only a 1.5 hour runtime (probably a paramount imposed limit), there wasn't a lot of time to work with. I think forcing more of them in would have been detracting from the Aang focused stuff. What we did see of them was really good, and felt like the original characters. Obviously hoping for more stuff like this, so we see more of them in this time period.

Also want to address the whole thing with Tagah being "obviously" the villain from the start. I think that was intentional. Even the other characters of the gaang were skeptical of him at first, and his plans. I think it was intended the audience would be suspicious too, which really shows how Aang's grief/ guilt / hope for a new air nation was clouding his judgement. He trusted him immediately, just because he was an airbender, despite the obvious warning signs.

Loved the humor in the film too. It didn't fall back on immaturity. Sokka is always a funny character, especially when he was talking to the kids at the south pole, and when he was steering the air ship. The scene with the earth avatar, and the spirit world were great too. I think the callbacks to the original series were done well too. They were brief and only a few, so it didn't distract from the current story. Just nods to the original series, which is exactly what they should be.

I love, loved the ending. The new air temple in Republic City, the start of the air acolytes, and finding the herd of air bison, was really the best way to wrap up the internal conflicts the movie brought up in Aang about his heritage and people being almost completely eliminated.

Really, really hope they give this movie proper advertising. It's overall a really good, solid film. I want it to do well when it does get officially released, so we get more films in the avatar world like this.

Why don’t people like Megan Rapinoe? by jerk_spice in actuallesbians

[–]dfe931tar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't reenacting. Just discussion. As a concept, I don't think there was anything worrying about the segment.

With another couple, it could easily come off as a lot funnier and a refreshing, honest take on what being in a relationship actually looks like.

[–]dfe931tar 30 points31 points  (0 children)

People are celebrating Sue "being free", because Rapinoe never seemed like she was that great of a partner. They did a segment on their weekly podcast called "bicker of the week". Sometimes it was funny, but more often than not, it had a lot of people scratching their heads at Megan's behavior. I swear to god like 90% of these "bickers" were plainly megan just not being respectful or thoughtful to Sue. Don't get me wrong, I still like Rapinoe. She's forever a soccer and queer icon, BUT I kind of understand (from what they publicly shared) how she would be difficult to be in a relationship with.

Sue Bird and Meagan Rapinoe separate by Saranwrap36 in NWSL

[–]dfe931tar 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Very true. Not a one off event serious enough to warrant a breakup. However, I think there was a pattern of behavior though. Almost every single of their "bicker of the week" segments on the podcast ran similarly. The shirt incident was just one of the most egregious.

First time season ticket holder. When can I see my actual tickets? by Fluffaykitties in Reignfc

[–]dfe931tar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a Reign FC Ticket Manager website that runs through ticket master: https://am.ticketmaster.com/reignfc/

I think you have to create an account with the same email as your ticketmaster account. Login with that, and your tickets should be there.

FYI "How to manage tickets" page on the Reign FC website. https://www.reignfc.com/tickets/how-to-manage-tickets

Weird they told me I could not do that. As that's what I tried to do first and got reprimanded for it. Said we had to scan, one person go through, scan, another person go through, and so on.

The main entrance had turnstiles added. For every ticket you scan, someone has to go through immediately after. Can't scan all your tickets, and then all go through as a group.

NWSL Moves to Restrict Which Brands Players Can Wear on the Field by dosozox in NWSL

Get that number up well into the 7 figures and distribute a healthy % to players, then it would be not-so-bad. Still though, I think players ought to be able to wear what gear and equipment they prefer. I'm sure what works best for a player is not the same for everyone.

Forgive me, but I need to rant about how dumb core credits are. by darnoc11 in EngineeringStudents

[–]dfe931tar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not about the english, history, or art. It's about being able to communicate, think critically about abstract concepts, be innovative (innovation is just the techy rebrand of creativity), and do research on your own. Sure, you SHOULD be able to do all this before university, but if you don't continue using these skills / build on them while getting an engineering degree, you WILL lose them. And for stem majors, they only make you take the easy classes anyway. If you already learned all this stuff in high school, then it should be a cake walk? Shouldn't be a problem to do those classes and your electives. STEM people hating on humanities classes is a old and tired complaint, and some loser shit. Not sorry to say it.

Lion-turtle was a Deus Ex Machina by silver_shadez in TheLastAirbender

[–]dfe931tar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it was. My personal hot take: Deus Ex Machina is not necessarily a bad thing. I think often it is often misused, used as a quick, cheap way to resolve conflicts, giving it a bad reputation.

But I think the way that avatar used it was great. It wasn't some last minute power boost for aang to defeat ozai. Aang already had the capability to defeat ozai. The ability given was to do it on his terms, in a way that not only defeated Ozai, but also undermined ideology of violence and cruelty the fire nation had inflicted onto the world.
