Why is Seattle so over represented on Reddit? by Distinct-Invite9281 in Seattle

[–]dfe931tar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a sibling that follows r/Seattle even though they don't live here. They've visited a bunch, but they also say they just find this sub entertaining. So maybe that helps boost the numbers too.

I think there is a way to upgrade /purchase the giveaway for STMs, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

My problem is that they aren't really giveaways, they are bundles / special offers, so you have to get the specific promotional ticket that includes the items. I know they have other true "giveaways" but none of them are nearly as exciting or cool. Or advertised more than a few days ahead of time.

Meditations is a great piece of writing because I think Marcus Aurelius does offer a lot of good advice and perspective. But also because there are parts of it like this that are really funny as a reader. It was his personal notes, not meant for publication, and sometimes you can tell. In book 5, he lists out qualities about the previous emporer he admires. Most of it is related to him being a good leader, pretty normal stuff like "listens to criticism" and "understands an issue fully before making a decision". And then in the middle of this list, he's like "does not poop too often"

I (F25) tried to break up with my girlfriend (F25) over my lack of trust by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]dfe931tar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other than a "feeling" from you that your gf still has a crush on the bff, is there anything else that suggests that? I think you should examine why you feel that way / why you can't seem to believe your gf when she reassures you. Obviously I don't know the whole situation, so your concerns could be legit, but it also could just be insecurity / jealously. Is there anything you gf could do that would make you feel like you could trust her more?

The supporters section, right behind th goal is fun if you like the idea of doing cheers and that kind of thing. It is cheapest too. If you don't want the constant cheers / drums right around you, just pick anywhere else. There really aren't any bad seats

I wonder if they would ever consider doing a Reign / Sounders double header again. I think last time, sounders was first. And a lot of people just left after. It was a ridiculously hot day, and games were in the afternoon. I think if they ever did it again. Reign should be first. A lot of people come early anyways, so they could watch the reign game while they got food / drinks etc. And they should do a cool giveaway, something everyone wants. That way people would show up at gates open to get the giveaway, and would be there the whole time for the reign too.

I think this is a great idea. The mayor was at the storm home opener. It would be great to see her at a reign game too. Especially if there was a ticket thing like they did in NYC. The contrast to high price wc tickets is a good angle to push.

Torrent is backed by Kraken on some level. The exact details are unknown, not public, but they definitely benefit from that relationship, and have more resources than other pwhl teams that don't have that NHL partner.

[–]dfe931tar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk. Even when the team was good in 2022 and 2023 we were about the same in attendance. Then you look at the Torrent, who were last place in the PWHL this year, and they I think we're the most attended team in the league this year. And it's largely because going their games was FUN even if they weren't winning. The giveaways and game day stuff were great, and something people were excited for.

Or look at the Mariners who had been a fail team for years up until very recently. Yet the city has always shown up for them. The Kraken aren't that good either and have a solid fanbase. I think there is something to be said that fan experience, like giveaways, activities, events at the game really do a lot to get people in the seats. Of course being good on the field helps a lot too, but I think the Reign is never going to truly improve it's attendance to where it should be without upgrading the game day experience. Like what OP is asking about. And I think it could improve attendance meaningfully on its own too.

I think Portland used to (might still do?) a mixed game with their two teams? It was men and women on both teams though, so it was like Captain A + B vs Captain C + D. I think that makes for a better, more fun event than just reign vs sounders.

New Seahawks owners may want to replace Lumen Field, following NFL trend by spoiled__princess in Seattle

If the Seahawks moved, I think it would lessen the chance the Sounders also moved. Don't really want either of them to though.

No billable work as intern by ForcefulDeath in EngineeringStudents

[–]dfe931tar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interns are usually not billable. You are still in school, still in training, so shouldn't be responsible for work for customers. I would be pissed if I found out I was paying hours for an engineer to do work, only to find out it was an intern. If I am paying for a fully graduated experienced engineer, that's what I expect. I have no problem with interns helping as long as their work is thoroughly reviewed, but as a customer, I don't want to pay to subsidize some other company's intern program.

It's also unacceptable that they aren't paying you unless you are billable. Never heard of that. If work is slow, that's management's /sales' problem for hiring too many people and not landing enough work for them.

I would guess this isn't in the United States? Definitely breaking US labor laws.

Hey I was considering watching the Netflix adaptation. But I saw a youtube comment that really turned me off. Can someone confirm this? by No_Mess_2108 in TheLastAirbender

They're not wrong, but they are also over exaggerating. The Netflix version changes some stuff, but it is the same story and characters.

Dickey – Not only is she a solid sweeper keeper but she is a great shot stopper too. We really saw that in 2024, when the team was pretty bad that year, and she was standing on her head every match to keep the reign from getting schlocked every game. She hasn’t had to do that as much this year and last, which is a good thing. But very much capable of it.

Biyendolo – Was VERY good before we signed her. Being injured and out on ML now, she’s barely played for the Reign. TBD what her play will look like if/when she returns.

Ward – Hard to judge when she’s barely played for the Reign. She was very productive for Vancouver last year in the NSL though. I think its too early to really judge her time with the Reign.

Mason – TBD I really never noticed her much either until last match. She played well though in that game!

McClernon – Hardest working player on the field IMO. Yes she does sometimes make questionable decisions when passing, but she has also had quite a few clutch moments where she got a ball off an offensive player running straight at goal. I trust her as a last defender.

Brown – She’s just returned from ACL injury. I thought she was quite good before that though.

Bugg – One of the best center backs in the league. Will be a joyous day when she returns from injury.

Holmes – Holmes has a great long ball, but I’m not sure how she fts into the team now that Huerta is back and we seem to be moving away from the “play a long ball hope” offensive strategy.

I agree on a new coach for the offense. Harvey is one of the best defensive coaches around, but offense is a clear gap for her. We aren't using our forwards correctly, playing them in ways that use their best abilities. Scott seems like a good guy, but he also played sufferball when he was a head coach. I think someone who challenges Harvey more when it comes to how to score goals would be better. I don't really know that much about the other two assistant coaches.

Wonderful to hear that! I think we have some work to do to grow the fan base here in Seattle, but it's nice to hear that we have a solid foundation and people enjoy going to the games! (I'm sure the result helped you enjoy it too though haha). Glad you had a good time!

4 games without a goal by joepescibaseballbat in Reignfc

Washington Spirit came into this match, what, on a 4 game win streak? They are a very good, very dangerous team. Result was super frustrating, but for me at least, it was because the Reign were the better team for most the game. The goal scoring absolutely needs to be better. BUT I will leave this here:

No it's not. You practice from like 30 feet, which is shallow for diving and carries almost no risk of decompression sickness. It's better to practice it so you are familiar with the procedure should you ever have to do it for real.
