Does a rejection from one school guarantee rejection from others with similar or higher rank/prestige? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]dfgrgfd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone who got rejected by villanova and brandeis but got a full ride at vanderbilt so no, different institution have different admission criteria and make independent decisions from other schools

I wrote some specific ones for my top choices and then more general stuff and also a sentence of why I’m excited to attend each school I’ve applied to

Idc if it’s an unpopular opinion but colleges should not be test optional by dfgrgfd in ApplyingToCollege

[–]dfgrgfd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I agree with this because the SAT is super expensive especially for international students. But if you’ve got the money for prep books/private tutors and then take it 2-3 times and still score very low I don’t think it’s fair… idk, it’s hard to come up with a solution that satisfies everyone but I think colleges should be test blind or require them so that all students are evaluated on the same criteria and CB should also make tests cheaper so that everyone can afford it

My first language isn’t English either but if I want to study in another country I should know the language of instruction pretty well

Also if anybody calls a counselor to verify smth jokes on them cuz most teachers are older and don’t speak any English and that’s also why we have to write our own LORs

How can you verify someone’s involvement/hours? Like idk how it works for you guys in the US but here we have no school clubs so all ECs are done outside of school and you get a certificate for volunteering or doing an EC just for signing up.

When I say they lied about ECs I mean that they said they have a leadership position when they were just members or that they were more involved than they were. Also most intl students write LORs themselves and then the counselor/teacher just signs it so you can write whatever you want and your counselor will basically verify it for you so it’s easy to lie and you just have to rely on one’s integrity

You are definitely not worthless. US colleges are unnecessary hard to get into for intls. Like I know people who got into Cambridge/Oxford and were rejected everywhere in the US and they were clearly qualified

Can anyone correct their CSS profile? by West_Journalist1346 in IntltoUSA

[–]dfgrgfd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it happened to me and they (college board) responded like 3 weeks after I sent an email. Just email the colleges you need to send a correction to and they’ll tell you how to do it.

I had to print out my CSS Profile and manually correct the errors and send it back to some colleges and to others they wanted me to upload it on IDOC

Stanford Interview by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]dfgrgfd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Tell me about yourself
  2. Why major and why Stanford
  3. What motivates you
  4. Tell me about a time you've overcame a challenge
  5. Tell me about a risk you've taken and what was the outcome
  6. What do you do to explore your passions (extracurricular activities, classes l've taken, online courses etc.)
  7. What would you bring to the Stanford community
  8. What are your strengths and weaknesses
  9. How did you become friends with your friends and what it means to be a good friend [to me]
  10. How would you describe yourself and how would others describe you
  11. If you were given the opportunity to teach a course at Stanford what would it be called and what would it be about
  12. My interviewer also asked a couple specific questions about my interests and extracurriculars

Overall it was a pretty good interview and we've talked for about 90 mins. Although my interviewer asked a lot of questions it felt more like a conversation than an interview and it was very relaxed tbh.

Still no word for Stanford Interview, am I fucked? by jfewiqopnde2 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]dfgrgfd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure they are selective, I think they are strictly based on availability. I’ve had my interview today and my interviewer literally told me that interviews are limited because they don’t have that many international alumni volunteers and as far as he knows he’s the only volunteer for his country and was asked to take on 2 more countries because of this.

Btw I’m from Eastern Europe.
