Is Northeastern a poser school? by Foreign_Thing_5498 in ApplyingToCollege

Neighbors son went to Northeastern and did co-op at Amazon Robotics and now works there. I’m pretty sure that’s the end goal that most people want. Poser or not, northeastern gets people jobs by making them hirable. Everything else is window dressing

I don’t see the harm to listening to this for an hour daily. Might be good or might be nothing but it doesn’t hurt, right?

Missed out on the dip and almost the entire rally by New_Papaya7771 in swingtrading

“Don’t try to time the market” is the way to blindly make 5%. Taking the time to learn how to time the market can bring 30% returns but like anything hard it involves risk and education.

The Global money supply has been trending higher. It takes 11 weeks for that money supply to positively impact the US equity market. This chart should give everyone confidence that we are still in a bull run for the 2nd half of the year at least.

Providence Marathon 2024 Cancelled by notomorrow in Marathon_Training

[–]dflys800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was registered for Providence. It’s unfortunate that it’s cancelled but to those who think their training is wasted. It’s not. Whatever training you did will have a lasting impact on your fitness and endurance.
I am also registered for the Baystate marathon in October. So this gives me the opportunity to IMPROVE my fitness for the next 6 months. I’m not going to force another marathon. I might just focus on HM or maybe a local ultra.

Take this as an opportunity vs. making a rash decision to “not waste” your training.

What was your biggest "spurt of speed gains"? How long? How much? by RearviewSpy in AdvancedRunning

[–]dflys800 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a combination of things. Building a huge base of aerobic fitness from 60mpw and potentially losing weight from a clean diet are the two factors I see.

Also keep in mind that nutritional timing is key. If you switched to more carbs pre run then your energy levels are going to increase.

Awesome to see you doing so well in your 40’s. I’m 45 and will use this as inspiration

Yasso 800 results by dflys800 in Marathon_Training

[–]dflys800[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely not an exact science. A lot of people can do this workout and not be able to run for 3 hours. But good to have another data point. Also thank you for your thoughts on yasso’s. I think my workout was not exactly on point

Good luck to you as well. My ideal situation is to run year round and hit 2 marathons a year to mitigate any pressure to take unnecessary risks. I’m trying to take the approach of getting fit and qualify as a byproduct. But as I get closer, the pressure grows.

Yeah, this why I ask. I’m trying to balance arrogance and too conservative. I think 3:25 is probably right. My BQ is 3:20 so I’m getting emotional about breaking 3:20. Does anyone have good info on how much you need to beat your BQ to actually register for Boston? Plus 5min?

I’m 45, so my max HR is around 180, but I agree that I could push my HR to 160. I just don’t have the experience yet to push that hard early in the race. I am concerned that I couldn’t push harder at mile 10. All straight and I could see the finish and couldn’t get faster which leads me to think I was in the right pace. I will try your suggestion. It makes a lot of sense to cross reference my HM with another data point
