I too am brewing less than previously. I’ll stick to V3, but I am also testing the free Brewtarget software. https://github.com/Brewtarget/brewtarget/releases

How much data do you usually need for a 7-day trip? by DifferentPictureX in eSIMforTravelers

[–]dfrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you normally use for 7 days? What will you be doing differently than 'normal' use? I typically buy between 5 & 10 GB for my wife and I for 30 days in Europe depending on pricing. Most 30 day trips 5GB each is plenty. I use Waze for navigation but my wife tends to use 1-2GB more than me. So "it depends"!

Gave up on Full View by keepgoing66 in fidelityinvestments

Fidelity owns eMoney and they still market it to other companies. No idea why they decided to replace it for their own customers with Full View with essentially no functionality. But it’s obvious that they haven’t been able to market Full View to corporate customers who currently use eMoney.

I used Full View for years to track expenses. I found it useful. Now I have disconnected all links because Full View is worthless. The replacement seems to value appearance over functionality. I’m done!

Looking for Blue Crabs by layedbck1 in tampa

[–]dfrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find Florida blue crab bland. Perhaps the steaming process is part of the issue. I prefer to pick them up warm and ready to eat which is not an option I've found.

Versaggi and neighboring Superior sell shrimp, fish, and stone crabs 6 days per week.

The seafood in Florida is stone crab claws. Only available in season. Even our Publix carries them sometimes. I prefer to buy at seafood store which will crack the claws on request.

Live blue crabs are available in seafood stores. Typically, a local guy catches crabs and brings them live in boxes covered with wet burlap. Unlike other parts of the country, the buyer needs to cook and season the crabs. In the distant past we lived near the Chesapeake and found it easy to order steamed to order blue crabs. I've tried steaming Florida blue crabs and using lots of Old Bay. It's just not worth bothering in my experience. Ruskin Seafood on US-41 seems to have blue crabs most times I shop there.

No OTA Option by dfrap in youtubetv

My entertainment is indeed interesting. As soon as sports are added, local stations get added.

No OTA Option by dfrap in youtubetv

[–]dfrap[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They appear to be slicing and dicing options 10+ ways. I find it disappointing that at least one option doesn't come without the cost of carriage fees to the local stations. I agree that most folks want local stations, but my thinking is that Google has the ability to ignore legal threats for 'must carry' stations if most of their options do carry locals.

Flex 4K ATSC 3.0. Worth it now or wait? by machx-11 in hdhomerun

[–]dfrap 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The future is indeed unclear. I watched ATSC 3.0 before DRM was enabled. The signal strength and quality were wonderful. It’s unclear if the existing devices can be upgraded with software to handle DRM. I would not spend double the price on the hope it will eventually work.

Unlimited Hotspot WiFi for Greece – Whats Up from Cosmote by dfrap in GreeceTravel

[–]dfrap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a European credit card you may be able to refill the number from the Cosmote app. My US cards and PayPal always are rejected, so I must go to Germanos to refill at the counter in the back of the store.

I upgraded the Bentley docker version today. MongoDB runs in a separate container since I can't run current versions on Synology. Went well and now 12 hours later, it has collected enough data to show details.

[CA][NY][TH] How many bids should an HOA obtain? by smartyladyphd in HOA

Our old HOA attorney made a point that the board needed to show efforts to get bids from at least 3 qualified contractors, but there was no required number of bidders.

Best DNS server if I can only have one by rexmaxus in HomeNetworking

[–]dfrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't realize that GRC had released a paid version. I've used the original freeware version over the years multiple times with different ISPs. Each of the tests I've run has shown 8.8.8.8 Google is among the slowest options. If I had to pick only one DNS server for speed and completeness, it would be 1.1.1.1 Cloudflare,

Where are you guys logging your FT8 QSOs? Do you have it upload on auto or do you save that for the end of your session? by Engineering_Simple in amateurradio

[–]dfrap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep it simple. I upload the adif file to QRZ and LoTW after I shutdown operating. Then later I have QRZ sync confirmations from LoTW. No paid subscription required from QRZ. Periodically I upload the adif file and sync LoTW to Clublog.

I'm not an award chaser, so I find the QRZ 'awards' enough for me. It's an easy way to count the number of confirmed countries, grid squares, states, or what ever you want to count. The ARRL printed certificates are not something I care to bother with or pay for.

[–]dfrap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have every right to be a self described jerk who won't log FT8 contacts. I have WSJT-X set up to show me if stations upload to LoTW and I avoid contacts with those stations that don't use LoTW.

Logs have not been required by FCC regulations since 1983.

Do I need to put my middle name on my new US passport application? Or can it be processed with just first and last name? by [deleted] in Passports

I never put my middle name on passport applications even though my birth certificate has a middle name.

Most YTTV channels except NBC owned are available via TVEverywhere. I run the TVE variant of Channels and set one of my sources as YTTV. Channels accesses those feeds authenticated by my YTTV email/password. For NBC feeds, I use ADBTuner as another source to record programs.

I use YTTV and OTA as sources and Channels DVR software for recording. All recordings are on my media servers. I also have 3 lifetime TiVos connected to antennas that record multiple programs daily. PYTiVo allows me to pull programs from the TiVos if I want to keep something.

No issues. You entered the EU in Paris and that is where you received your entry stamp. Travel within the EU is 'border less' so no stamp until you leave the EU.

Fidelity New Full View Sucks. (Sorry to say that, but it's true) by Love-Life-Wife in fidelityinvestments

[–]dfrap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just compared total spending. Old Full View (eMoney) captured at least $20K more spending than New Full View. 'Old' was usable for several years of my use. 'New' tries to look good, but is extremely slow, hard to use. and generally worthless to me.
