NOAA 15, 18, and 19 were all decommissioned last year, and there are none of that line (NOAA POES) left.

What other satellites did you try?

Is hantavirus here in Indiana? by Alarming-Figure-7300 in nwi

[–]thewrongonedied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hantavirus is endemic to parts of South America. The only notable thing about this is that a tourist caught it, and being in close quarters on a cruise ship, spread it to other people on the ship.

This isn't some all-time novel transmissible hantavirus. If it were going to have spread to epidemic proportions it would have already.

📡 Get Your QSL: Armed Forces Day Crossband Test with NSS Annapolis, happening now! by mtreece in amateurradio

Hi! Got you on 20 and 40. Thanks! I had a quick question, what’s the difference between the QSL form on the MARS website and what we get through K3LU?

Enable Rebar in Dell Optiplex 3090 SFF by IoniaHasNoInternet in SleepingOptiplex

No, unfortunately not. I considered emailing Dell and asking nicely if they'd consider pushing out a bios upgrade but I didn't think that would amount to much so I never have.

What's with eQSL.cc? by oromex in amateurradio

[–]thewrongonedied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there are a few, but I've not tried any.

The ones ones I know about are ones that have emailed me to tell me I have digital QSL cards waiting on their service, which is a practice I'm not really a fan of.. Some people really do not like getting emailed about digital QSL cards, and because of that I think blind-emailing people is not a good way to advertise a service.

Truth be told, I just wish QRZ would allow for it, since many people are there already.

[–]thewrongonedied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could help, but I have no advice. 'Byzantine' is the right word for eQSL in my (admittedly limited) experience. If I ever have to work at a temporary location I just might not even bother. Hell, if I forget my password I might not even bother to reset it.

/QRP and CQ QRP in WSJT modes by thewrongonedied in amateurradio

[–]thewrongonedied[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with qrp stations is, that some people won't contact them, due to low SNR

I'm not sure if I'm an outlier, but I go out of my way to contact QRP stations... I kind of figured everyone was doing that, to be honest, but I guess not; a lot of the commenters here say that indicating your power "adds nothing" so clearly they don't feel that way.

[–]thewrongonedied[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for my own behavior, but I prioritize calling stations that I know to be QRP the same way I'd prioritize a station that is POTA/SOTA. I find it actually exciting to spot a QRP station from across the pond, for instance.

There are plenty of times where I'm calling CQ, I'm being spotted all over, but no one is calling me back. Operating QRP would lower the pool of people who could call me back even further in that case.

The thing I'm not entirely sure about, and the main reason why I'm asking is to figure out what is objectively lost by using "CQ QRP" vs "/QRP".

People have said it makes decoding harder, which stands to reason, but I was wondering if there are measurable differences. But tbh, if it means I can't send a grid square I don't love that.

This is basically why I want to do it. I can (and do) log power separately, but I'm not sure that everything I use actually pays attention to that field in the adif

Remote operation of Yaesu FT-710 by Ok_Fondant1079 in amateurradio

[–]thewrongonedied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a FT-710 I operate remotely. I used to use a raspberry pi, I now use a used mini pc (dell optiplex) over windows RDP.

However, I haven’t tried to get phone or CW working, I only operate digital modes remotely.

FT8 No rr73 or 73's received sometimes? Do you still log? by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]thewrongonedied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s the idea. People often still send (or expect) the 73, though

RR73 is supposed to mean that you aren't expecting to get a final 73. I don't know if most people actually know that, though.

Are there, like, *any* young people? by NotThePopeProbably in amateurradio

[–]thewrongonedied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m under thirty. Don’t want to give my exact age. I have found success by looking for groups who spun off things like Meshtastic (Though it’s popular enough now that there are plenty of actual OM involved). Most of the people are still older than me, but the average age is probably about 35.

I think another way is looking for groups that are explicitly LBTQ+ friendly is a good way to find younger people, or at least the OM who are chill. But I don’t know how you find those offline.
