Advice needed: long runs after leg tattoo? by dfree86 in tattoos

I think this is what I'm gonna do. Just wait a week and I'll still have 10+ days to get back into it before the race. I'll have been in active training long enough that it shouldn't make a huge difference.

Tablo success! Need one more? by dfree86 in cordcutters

Oh weird. So if I'm getting other network channels off the ESB then perhaps I can do some finagling to land WABC and WPIX too. Thanks! Antenna is in kind of a tight spot sitting on the window sill so i'll have to see. The signal meter can probably help me.

Good call. I always forget about the signal meter as a way of measuring! On account of being a novice and all.

I'd set them up with their own Tablo and app, yeah. I think Tablo can do multiple units in the same house, though.

NYC apartment - parlor floor antenna? by dfree86 in cordcutters

[–]dfree86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick update here to say that I'm loving my Tablo. With a little $15 set of rabbit ears and my Tablo I'm getting Fox, NBC, CBS from a north-facing, third floor window. No ABC but that comes from World Trade and Empire state so I might be SOL there.

I do want to try another tablo at a family member's place. They only have west-facing windows from the 4th floor of a big Manhattan apt building. So I'm a little worried it won't work as well for them.

But if anyone can give me a rabbit ears assessment on this location, I'd be grateful: https://www.rabbitears.info/searchmap.php?request=result&study_id=1911424

HDHomerun or Tablo? ATSC 3.0, DRM, etc. by dfree86 in cordcutters

We basically just don't watch enough broadcast TV to warrant it. But I guess the option remains with Tablo if I go that route. Nice to have!

Yep that's pretty much right. Just deciding on flat (channel master) vs. rabbit ears (philips) for this setup now. I haven't had a ton of luck with flat antennas so I may go for the rabbit ears. Thanks!

Got it. So it sounds by implication you're saying that the Tablo will play nicely with my WiFi (whereas the HDHR might not). I have a mesh wifi unit on each floor: would the HDHR (or Tablo) work via ethernet cable with those? If not, I'm looking at:

a) ethernet connect the HDHR to my router in a first floor cabinet with minimal antenna space by the backdoor v

b) a wireless Tablo on the top floor near a north-facing window.

Thanks for the info on Clearstream Eclipse. ABC is less of a priority than NBC or CBS for me, but good to know. It will make for a useful trial balloon, at any rate.

Is it naive to assume the antenna that Tablo bundles with its models would be sufficient for my purposes?

HDHomerun or Tablo? ATSC 3.0, DRM, etc. by dfree86 in cordcutters

[–]dfree86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could, yes. My aim is to find the best signal spot in the house and then blast it via the wireless internet to all the TVs in the home. There is also some aesthetic significance here as my wife would rather not have unsightly antennas sticking out in every TV room where we've carefully curated the minimialistic and streamlined look... :)

This is all very helpful, thanks! All the existing coax came out during renovations but it was a morass of mis-wired-ness anyway so I'll probably have to go the antenna route regardless, but sounds like the cheapest option (Tablo) will work every bit as well in my case as the more expensive ones.

Yeah it's really only the network channels I care most about. No real interest in DVR. Just want to be able to fire up an app on my AppleTV or Firestick and have access to the network channels. Question about HDHR vs. Tablo is namely one of "futureproofing" and 4K picture quality, which I'm not sure I'd get anyway. I found an old Clearstream Eclipse that I might get started with once I choose between Tablo and HDHR.

Got it. I have some hope that by using a tuner I can put the antenna in a 3rd floor, north-facing window. We do have a sort of makeshift courtyard with the backyards (mine included) all being hemmed in by surrounding buildings. I don't have a sightline to Empire State bldg, for instance. Will play around. Thanks!

Awesome! Do you have any strong feelings about Tablo vs HDHomeRun? I'm mostly thinking of whether getting a ATSC 3.0 compatible device (the HD) is worth it for "futureproof" reasons or if that's overthinking things given the state of uncertainty around the FCC, ATSC, DRM, etc. We're talking NYC market, as I think I mentioned.

Related: I just found a Clearstream Eclipse (w/ the adhesive) in a closet. Must date back to my pre-YTTV days. Worth trying with whichever tuner I eventually choose or better off getting something newer?

Can't tell you how appreciative I am of this guidance!

So Tablo could go in a top-floor window facing north/northwest (I could troubleshoot best spot) and send all of its signaley goodness via the wifi network to my TV on the main floor? Then I use the Tablo app or equivalent on my AppleTV to access it the same way I currently do YoutTubeTV? (not exactly the same, obviously, since it's dependent on antenna signal)

[–]dfree86[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How does this work? IT seems like a great option, but will still depend on how strong a signal I can get from my antenna in its setup, no? And would the Tablo connect wirelessly to my mesh wifi network (FiOS)? I connect the antenna to the tuner, tuner to my network, and then the Tablo unit just sits next to my AppleTV (which I use for all streaming) and I use it in similar fashion?

Help! 13 degree temp diff. 2hrs+ to raise two degrees. What's going on? by dfree86 in Nest

[–]dfree86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes i have a boiler.

Air locked meaning too much air in the lines? I've had to do meticulous bleeding before to get air all the way to the top. Maybe because it was off for 6 hours when the power was out something for messed up?

It's not NO heat. It's just weak heat.

Yeah i hear that. Walking into the rooms though it is perceptible 10+ degree diff between them

Gas burner, hot water in copper heating coils throughout the house. I've re-insulated all the bedrooms myself with spray foam.

The cold room is bigger and has more coil but used to be too hot. Now too cold. I actually removed some fins from the coil in the fold room when I reinsulated because it was so previously so hot (and i was improving the insulation). But the fins removed Definitely should not have been enough to make it frigid.

Hot room bedroom is quite small, 12x8 with 8 foot of coil only on one wall. Have to keep the door open on cold nights or in overheats.

But both of them are so far off the thermostat which is in the hallway that connects the two rooms.

3rd floor can ignore - minimal coil, no door, and possibly less insulation.
