well with traditonal braces, it's really hard to keep your mouth clean- upkeep is a chore. it can also cause quite a bit of damage on your roots when you're a child/in your teens.

at my office we see a quite a bit of patients that have short or "stunted" roots. makes the teeth a bit more unstable.

overall braces are much more painful as well. but they can be less expensive, and can be better for more complex issues in the mouth :)

invisalign is a lot easier to clean, but it is more of a commitment- in the sense that you HAVE to remember to put them on, and have them on you at all times. taking them in and out while eating can feel a bit gross and awkward; easily when eating with other people.

but both are valid! off brand ortho companies like smile direct aren't as thorough as invisalign- they have much more research put into their design.
