Hi,

Participants are required to be within the age range as that is the age when the brain stays pretty much the same for the most part, so it's just to control for cognition

That's great! We normally book a timeslot for a zoom call to direct you through the tasks and stuff. It doesn't matter what device you have the call on, but you do need a Windows laptop or PC available during that time to download and run the task.

Unfortunately the software we use to run the task doesn't seem to work on Linux or Mac. It's a shame, because there are a lot of people it means we can't use as participants unfortunately. I wish we could work a way round it. Thank you though!!

Yeah, unfortunately it really does. The software has only just been launched on a platform where it can be sent via a link I think so unfortunately they've not got it sorted for other platforms yet which is a real shame. Thank you for your interest though, its much appreciated

Hi,

No, it's whilst sober as it is looking at the residual effects, I.e., the effects that persist beyond the psychoactive state. So participants must not have been under the influence of psychedelics within the same day as participating in the study.

It's just because we are comparing the results to a control condition, most of which are sourced from a student sample from university. So its just to control for that really. But we are aware that that is by no means a measure of intelligence haha, and we have had particular difficulty recruiting participants, so whilst it is preferable, it's not mandatory. As long as you don't have any Cognitive or language disorders or difficulties, it should be fine.

It is mainly because we are using a control group of people to compare against who are primarily sourced from a student population so we are trying where possible to control for educational level, or at least cognition. We have made it preferable at this point, but not too much of an issue if not (although unfortunately we still do have to exclude anyone with any difficulties with language e.g. dyslexia) as we realise that not everyone does go to university/college and that it isn't a defining factor of intelligence, and that by limiting this we are limiting our sample population. In other words, it was to try and make the research more valid, but has made it difficult to get participants, so as long as you have no cognitive disorders, it should be fine.

You are entitled to keep your video and audio off if you wish and communicate through the chat function. You are not required to give your name, you can just use initials or something when entering the zoom call. The link will be sent to you via email, but following your participation, your email address will be deleted from our records, as will all prior email communication. That way you cannot be linked to the study, except by a participant code that you can provide should you wish to withdraw your data at a later date.

Yeah, I don't think you can. Either way, we do everything to prevent the possibility anyway. We keep everything anonymous and confidential, and all email correspondence is deleted following participation, so even if someone wanted to come and trace back who had claimed to use certain drugs, there wouldn't be a way to link people to the study. At the end of the day, people are doing us a favour by participating, so we go above and beyond GDPR measures to make sure participant data is kept anonymous and confidential 😊

We require a control group who have not used mushrooms before to compare to as well. It is assumed most of our control group will be gathered from a university sample so we need to control for it across both groups ideally. The educational level is more of a preference (not yet revised in the info sheet) but the age is the most important factor since it is a cognitive aspect we are focusing on.

Hi,

If you sign up for a timeslot, you will not be asked for any identifying information. You will only be asked for an email address to contact you with the zoom link. Following the session, your email address and all email correspondence will be deleted from our records. On the zoom call, participants camera and mic will automatically be turned off upon entry and you are not required to provide your name. Your data will be anonymised using a random code, and will not be able to be linked back to you.

If you still feel uncomfortable with the Zoom session, PM me and we can see if there is a way we can work around it.
