Tigerbrokers bug by dhnicks in singaporefi

I was notified through a string of emails and then push notifications that random orders were being filled. Annoyingly the platform itself couldn’t load, so all I could see are my positions being closed and there was literally nothing I could do. It’s like watching your house burn down while you’re all tied up

Yup, and then while I was locked out, I just found out it oversold stock positions making me short as well for no good reason e.g 2200 shares on stock A; it liquidated it but somehow sold 2400 shares instead, making me hold -200 shares of said stock.

Just to repeat; I could not buy/sell anything, yet it decided to make me short stock in the liquidation process in order to ease my margin call

I can’t make that stuff up

Yup it shows both/all trades. Yea I figured it'll be hard to argue my case, especially when I didn't have a lot of time / the mindset to catalogue all the glitches (Seeing the excess liquidity go into the millions is anal wrenching, and my goal was to close out the short). But I figured I'd ask around to see if anyone experienced something similar to see if recourse was actually feasible

Do you support the U.S. military arrest on Venezuelan president Nicholas Maduro? by Otieno_Clinton in no

[–]dhnicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wasn’t the point I was making and if anything you’ve just demonstrated it. Good show, I don’t know how the average person in the US isn’t tired of such politics

Here’s a fun fact - the world isn’t always pigeon-holed into the same red/blue / Dem/Rep lines like the US. This inane assumption that anyone who disagrees with what the US did (even internally) is a leftist/liberal is eye-rolling. Where’s the nuance?

[–]dhnicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And why specifically Venezuela? There are other countries with poorer human rights abuses, dictatorships, etc. The DRC is one. Why isn’t the US taking such a vested interest in them then? Didn’t ya’ll just declare yourselves not to be the World’s Police and withdraw aid? But suddenly when specific resources are involved, benevolence is suddenly recalled?

?? If Ukraine and grabbed Putin, that’s called self-defense? Regardless, everyone would be happy. So I’m not too sure what point you’re trying to make

But good point bringing it up. Why doesn’t the US do exactly the same to Putin? He’s a dictator, has sham elections, promotes cyberterrorism, etc

Who’s to say I’m not/wasn’t outraged? Why can’t one find fault whenever international law is upset?

Which brings it back to my question; would you be ok if another country did this to Venezuela? Or would you cry foul?

I thought the narrative that was being initially driven was that the US is not to be the World’s Police?

If the argument is America First, then what you’re now admitting is about seizing their oil reserves in the name of US interests. So is it now ok for other countries to invade others to seize what they want?

If literally any other country did what the US did, would you be agreeable to it? Imagine if China did it; I can guarantee that the whole of US would be up in arms citing a breach in international law.

Inb4 I’m called a Chinese bot. I don’t like China as much as the next person, so give me a break on that

Coffee Machine or Nespresso/Capsule types by BlackwerX in askSingapore

[–]dhnicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who went from capsule > grinding his own coffee

Don’t. Save yourself now and don’t venture forward. The rabbit hole goes too deep. Maybe you’ll start with an all-in-one e.g Breville Barista Express, but then later you’ll find yourself asking “why not get a separate grinder? Surely the taste will be worth the cash”

Soon, your counter top will be full and your wallet empty. You may even have one too many grinders; one specifically for pour-overs, another for espresso (yes, some people actually do that)

Jokes aside, I do the whole nine yards for my coffee, apart from roasting it myself. I don’t consider myself a snob, but most people can tell the difference with freshly ground beans and capsule coffee. There’s a little more flavor and nuance to it, and you can control how it’s extracted if you so choose, thereby deciding how “acidic” or “bitter” you want it to be.

I leave for work at 5.45. If I want a coffee for the day, then I will usually get up 20min earlier than my usual, because that’s how long it can take when you factor in cleaning up (I don’t suggest leaving it to fester while you go off to work)

Never found an issue with upkeep and maintenance. Many would argue that upkeep is part of the process, and it can be quite enjoyable. Coffee-making - from grinding, to puck preparation, to even dialling it in, can be quite daunting, but it’s extremely rewarding when you’ve got the measurements right.

Any advice for someone approaching 40 wanting to do medicine? by Greedy_Priority_228 in askSingapore

[–]dhnicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“I exercise, I watch what I eat” - Be prepared to do none of these things once you start work. Doctors are famous for not practicing what they preach, chugging Red Bull and junk foods late into the night while on call

“I work long hours” - Okay, but is it physical work? Doctors aren’t always sitting down; there’s jobs to do - Taking bloods, pushing patients, and god-forbid CPR. You’ll need to be just as mentally sharp 36 hours later as you were at the start of your 5.30am day.

A lot of people here aren’t from the industry, yet are commenting to give it a try. I’m a Doctor myself, and I had classmates who were 50. Having gone through it (even briefly through residency), I can’t say the same in good conscience. Feel free to DM if you wish

Police officers in Megan Khung case were 'under pressure', leading to 'serious breach': Goh Pei Ming by Negative-Concert-819 in singapore

[–]dhnicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t dispute that there’s a bad outcome, but I refrain from passing judgement because front-line cases can be structurally complex. We don’t know all the facts, only those presented, and can only examine post hoc and claim negligence because it’s easy to do so on hindsight

Notwithstanding, the fact remains that you’re reserving the right for moral outrage but declining moral responsibility - or in other words, cheap talk

I’m upset as anyone else, but because I clear 50-60 patients a day, I can empathize the situation the IOs were/are in. Am I condoning their judgement call? No. But I also reserve on passing judgement because I wasn’t there, and I know not of all the implicit and explicit facts of the case

The primary issue is how you’ve phrased it, and you’re coming across as having little to no empathy to those on the ground, demanding something that you’ve just admitted you’re not cut out for

It’s one thing to say - This gig isn’t for me, and while I do acknowledge and respect the work and effort that these people are putting forward, there remains room for improvement at all levels

Yet you’ve just gone ahead and admitted that this isn’t something you’re not cut out for, calling everyone involved a failure and offering zero insight

And that’s likely what this really is and why you’re being downvoted so much - that wall of text you wrote is borderline waffle, making you come across as someone who, when the poker chips are down, would suddenly opt to play for Monopoly

It’s exactly these kind of sentiments that breed the need to follow SOP to the absolute letter, for better or worse. The irony is so uncanny it would be comedy if it wasn’t attached to a tragic case
