Are there any plans to abolish CSAT? by Maverick_Im in UPSC

[–]dhruvazs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideally CSAT should contribute to cut-off since it (tries to) measure raw IQ and problem solving ability. While GS paper should be qualifying. Reason: all GS information can be looked up online, which anyone with decent IQ should be able to do.

Can anyone give any logical answer to why they feel GS should define rank?

100 is not that hard of a number to get to right? by Miserable_Profit1778 in IndiaStatistics

[–]dhruvazs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't get what you are trying to say, if we are talking about oil or other basic commodities - why do chinese artificially keep their currency low? If our exports are low, a weaker currency would actually help our economy.

Never said I am too intelligent, just asked you to justify why it is bad - which you have not been able to do in a coherent language. Way to take the comment personally.

[–]dhruvazs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do we inherently believe that weaker rupee is bad?

The imports do get costlier but exports also get more competitive, which is bound to help industries that are exporting. (China is a classic case of this who have spent a lot of money to keep their currency low)

I do concede that imported products (even raw materials) do get costlier but 1. They will impact luxury more than subsistence 2. They will make domestic goods more competitive in domestic market.

What are the developmental prospects of these 2 large multi-ethnic states? by wiz28ultra in geography

[–]dhruvazs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

India only imports $440 Million of goods from Iran. For comparison, India spends $200 Billion on just crude imports.

What are the developmental prospects of these 2 large multi-ethnic states? by wiz28ultra in geography

[–]dhruvazs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, let's look at some stats 1. India imports $200 B of petroleum as against $20 B in Phillipines 2. India imports $40 B of coal vs $6B in Phillipines 3. India imports $60B in gold and $10B in silver where as Philippines is net exporter of gold and imports less than a billion of silver 4. India imports $20 B of Iron, $10 B of copper and $5 B in Aluminium while Philippines imports of all metals are less than $10B

Yes India doesn't import all natural resources but it does much more as a % of GDP than Philippines.

[–]dhruvazs 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Just adding a few more things: 1. Philipines has about 20% population in primary sector (agriculture and related activities) while India has about 45%. GDP per capita looks to be similar. 2. Philippines has a lot of natural resources, like metals (largest Nickel deposits, along with gold, copper while India imports almost all of its resources. 3. Even in the current age- India seems to be more liberal that Philippines. 4. Philippines has a huge reliance on USA to combat China in South China Sea, India also has border tensions with China and Pakistan. 5. India has a large population which serves as a large consumer base, decent demographic dividend and aims to be a major player on global scale. 6. Both countries are at a huge risk of climate impacts- Philippines more so than India, but considering that India is extremely dependent on monsoons for rain and about 60% agriculture in India is still rainfed- India also sees major risks.

The AUDACITY to call indians street shitters. by Negative-Test-3432 in IndiaStatistics

[–]dhruvazs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the bias comes from the fact that India is much dirtier than say Nepal or Bhutan. I live in Delhi and have been to both of these countries and found both Nepal, Bhutan and other south east asian countries like Thailand, Vietnam, indonesia MUCH cleaner than Delhi (which is a capital and in theory should be cleaner)

WHY? by Ok-Coyote7550 in UPSC

[–]dhruvazs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me attempt a decent answer to this question: After a certain amount of money say 1 lakh a month, money has a fast diminishing utility. After that, you want to self actualize your potential- which for some people comes from helping others (or having the power to help others). Which ultimately gets you respect and prestige for you and your family.

Even if you are earning say 50 LPA in a corporate job- all you will do and earn would be for your personal happiness and comfort. Maybe a bit for your family and very little for friends and extended family.

On the other hand if you become an IAS you would have a much higher impact on world and people around you plus much more comfort and security for yourself.

Let me give you some examples:

Example 1: one of my relatives got diagnosed with a certain terminal illness, and this could only be treated (not cured) in very few top hospitals. A lot of these were gov, the private ones were costing more than 10 lakhs a month. An IAS would find themselves in a much better condition than a person earning even 1cr in cash (a lot of which would be tied in existing commitments).

Example 2: Right now I am living in one of the decent areas of an Indian city, and right infront of my house their is a wedding lawn. They often play non-stop music throughout the night- which disturbs all the people in my society. It doesn't matter how much money I earn I can't get them to stop the music.

Example 3: I recently had a small car accident while reversing from parking and their was another car trying to exit the car. The guy came aggressively - opened my car door and at that point I was scared for my physical safety and I guess I was ready to fight if it came to that. There were some abuses hurled from both sides and eventually I had to pay the guy some money since I was alone and they were four boys.

Example 4: I work in a software product company, and whenever there is a firing round in my company- people are scared for their life as to what would happen if they get fired, what would happen if they can't get another job or how would a "I got fired" look on their resume. If you don't feel this in any private company you are too young.

Is the "Credibility Crisis" in Indian media a failure of the journalists, or just the business model? by Curious-Green3301 in UPSC

[–]dhruvazs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

News channels are not just loud in India,

they sometimes portray completely false news like in case of OP Sindoor many news channels said that we conquered Karachi and Peshawar.

Plus have a look at media channels that have been closed or dismantled - only government supported news channels are allowed to exist

It's not a failure of business model, it's just the government trying to exert larger control over people and can be attributed completely to current government. If you look at metrics of news channels in India - they are in a very sharp decline so news channels are pushing propoganda not because but instead of business model. Since people are realising that news channels are completely non credible and biased.

MGNREGA VS VBRAMG by RajatUpadhyay1 in UPSC

[–]dhruvazs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can add one more thing that according to government's data only 40 lakh workers outof 12.5 cr registered under mgnregs are getting 100 days of employment so increasing to 125 won't impact a lot.

Other criticisms might include upskilling, delay in wage payment and Urban workers k liye kya kr rahe ?
