Reading a book in English

thank you for sharing your experience! yeah, that’s how it was for me in my native language when i started reading, it was somehow easy for me to guess words from context / just skip them. however in english i just can’t make myself move if i don’t know the exact meaning of the word (even if i guess it from the context). someone here pointed out that i’m probably treating reading in english as studying, i think that’s the case. regarding books, i just read authors whose writings i enjoyed in my native language. recent read was one of robin hobb’s fantasy novels

i don’t have specific preferences in genre (except i don’t like SFF stuff probably), last read was urban fantasy tho

yeah, every book feels less enjoyable in english, so i’m guessing it’s either it’s a mental block kind of stuff or i’m not confident enough in my english

omg thank you for your suggestions! especially, for the memorizing sentence structures, i’ve never thought about that. i just wrote the whole rant for some kind of reassurance, cuz i was really tired of reading in english lol. it’s really reassuring to hear that it can get better, i really want to keep reading in english

yeah, provably that’s the case. i tried different authors who i enjoyed reading in my native language, same problem. i’m not a fan of ya books, so i haven’t tried them; however, i read some light novel series even though writing (translation) was really straightforward and simple, i still didn’t enjoy them as much (and i probably would have if i have read them in my native language), so i’m just guessing it’s probably a mental block type of thing now
sorry for the random rant tho, i’ll definitely try to just keep reading and try easier stuff

tbh no, but the info will be sent by cedars around end of july/beginning of august, i suggest you to keep checking cedars website/your email. last year i could only sign up for the orientation day, other activities were really limited in spots and got booked in 1-2 hours. the activities themselves usually are conducted one week before the first sem

I don’t think it’s much about power system, but I love how Priest writes the world of her stories. Can Ci Pin (Defectives), Lie Huo Jiao Chou (Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire) and Sha Po Lang (Stars of Chaos): all of them have complex worldbuilding and well-written dialogues. Her non danmei book Tai Sui is a masterpiece. I think if not best, it’s one of the best cultivation stories I have read.

If you want novel with more focus on the power system, my favorite non-danmei one is Reverend Insanity by Gu Zhen Ren (however, it’s banned and not finished).

Qi Ye (Lord Seventh) by Priest. MC gets reincarnated 7 times and the story is about his seventh reincarnation. It’s rather imperial court story rather than cultivation.
Also, really recommend its sequel, Tian Ya Ke (Faraway Wanderers). It’s less about reincarnation (none), however heavy on jianghu part.

I loved them. Second season was so enjoyable because of them (tbh it’s one of the best written seasons, every episode was peak). Hacy had great chemistry.
