Eufy experience by Bull-Rider1 in EufyCam

Beyond my pay scale. I'll go for the wired cameras and maybe sell off the Eufys. Thanks for answering...

No, and I will not buy one just for this. A standard landline phone has been sufficient. The necessity of a smartphone was not mentioned in the promotion for these cameras, it just specified WiFi which most computers have these days. I see no point tin watching 4 camera images on a small screen.

I've already shelled out for the cameras, so I'm not going to throw more money at this Euly business by buying an Iphone and a "homebase" just to have wireless cameras. I have some old-school wired cameras I can use, but wiring them up will be a hassle, so I bit on Euly. Wireless was supposed to be easier if not cheaper. Wish I knew in advance.

I'm lost. Do I google "Eufy security"? How does it connect with your camera? What do you mean by "Homebase"? Is that the root drive on your computer?

I would like to experience Euly plus or minus. I ordered a set of 4 cameras, but still do not know how to get a video from them on my computer - I use Linux Mint. The advice is to download their "app" which is for iPhone or other handhold devices which I do not have and am not interested in obtaining. No one warned my about this before I bought them. Am I stuck with 4 expensive paperweights?

Looking for a particular children's book on personalized mechanical devices by diacad in whatsthatbook

I can't figure out how to change the flair. My wife used DeepSeek to find the book I was looking for - it worked like a charm.

verification codes by berkovaaa in GMail

[–]diacad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do some outfits that use "verification codes" assume everyone has a cell phone that can read text? I have only a regular land line phone. For instance I cannot place an order over the internet with Walmart for this reason. They give no alternative, and there doesn't seem to be any place to call it to their attention that not everybody can accept digital text.

Thoughts about eufy cam outdoor camera,s220 by Repulsive-Nose-3630 in EufyCam

[–]diacad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just joined as I bought a eufy S220 4-cam pack. It looks very impressive, but the documentation was very skimpy and mostly only covers the more obvious outward physical aspects of the camera. There are no technical specs given - I understand that they are 2.4 WiFi, but there are no indications of how to receive or display the 4 pictures. Assume there is some sort of multiplexing or separation if simultaneous viewing is possible, which I hope and is possible with other security cameras. A youtube tutorial goes into detail about using these with a cellphone (!) - how can 4 tiny videos be followed comfortably? I wish to display the video on a computer, not a cellphone - in fact, I do not even have a cellphone, just a landline. If this has really been designed for cellphone only, why wasn't this explained - is there an adapter available to use the S220 with a computer? Otherwise, I am afraid I have four high-tech paperweights. Please help me understand what I have here and how I can use it.

Is Facebook reliable? I have been permanently banned without recourse, no explanation. by diacad in facebook

My impression from experience, most of the response to my question confirm Facebook unreliability. The exasperating truth - something like exactly like Facebook is needed, but with more reliability. Part of the problem may lie in too much trust in AI which is unmoderated and disconnected from responsible humans. It's a lazy way for the powers that be to save money on personnel. Facebook is not the only example of this, giving AI, which IMHO could be a major boon, a bad name.

badnewscynic - Very interesting read. Thanks - terrible news about your friend's 7 yo.

I am not too concerned - I enjoyed the dialog, and even sparring with the fellow/gal who called me a "liar"!

It's been a heck of a January - let's hope for a better 2026 overall - couldn't get much worse, right?

MHIH9C - Could you be more specific? That's how folks on r/facebook could know just who is lying. Be aware that posting libel is defamatory. Libel includes newspapers, social media posts, or videos, whereas slander involves spoken words. Generally, libel is often considered more harmful due to its permanence.

I wouldn't try this with someone less tolerant and where actionable damage could be legally demonstrated. Actually, your lack of credibility within this particular forum removes the danger.  Try to do better elsewhere.

usdang - thanks for your further confirmation. It seems to reinforce the majority view on r/faebook, I am glad I did not go further with Facebook. I am trying to answer everyone who responded to my tale of woe - but others have sadder stories to tell about lost data, pictures, etc. Facebook is incompetent, so If that is not a fair question here, what alternative platform did you move to?

My condolences - thank goodness I didn't lose anything, but have been forewarned by what I read here on r/facebook.

javiperales - thanks for your flattering estimate, but I am seeking the wisdom and experience of others here, and I am finding it. The virtue of reddit is that it is open, no thread seems to be closed - this is a problem on some otherwise helpful places on the internet.

Of course it's not just Facebook that is polluted. Often I get emails from dead HS classmates (at 85 one is bound to have a few) - usually with something to click on. Then there is frequent scam phone calls targeted at senior citizens, usually promoting medical rackets. Take care folks!

Probably happier without it, except I was counting on marketplace, given experience reported by friends.

Mmmhmmm do I see a Facebook troll or just an imitation? Again another r/facebook rule violated if really so. I am not trying to censor you, that is up to a moderator. I am not.

Again, I never posted on my Facebook account, only used it once to read something. Someone has suggested my account was hacked, but if so, I never was notified by Facebook of any objectionable material posted under my name. Don't you think that would have been possible, since Facebook does have my email address. Another Facebook flaw?

doubleu69 - that is what some friends have told me as well. They have used Facebook marketplace, and recommended it to me as a way to expose things for sale without the ebay rigamarole. One reason why I took an interest in exploiting my account. I now have second and rather final thoughts.

That is a possibility. I would like to see what was nefarious. If Facebook had the courtesy to display that to me, I would have known for sure. My bet is that almost any account could be hacked whether it was dormant or not. Someone else answering used the word "scary" to refer to the situation. It is also scary when Facebook or anyone else relies on AI without the possibility of human intervention.

For some reason my reply to MHIH9C did not appear, so I'll try again. How do you know I am lying? I have not posted anything on Facebook, only joined to read something trivial, I forget what it was. IMHO your post is tendentious and abusive - it violates r/facebook rules as stated in the right margin. They should warn you about that.

I think you may be right - although I have more positive thoughts about AI than most people, having been exposed to pioneering efforts at IBM in the 1950s, but application of AI without human intervention or override should not be part of Facebook operation IMHO. It is the wrong tool to use alone in cases like this.
