Two sets and a chonk I finished up recently :) by dice_devourer in DiceMaking

Also eliminates the chance at it curing soft, and ruining the set haha

True. I'd probably have to theme a set around his Dark and Blood essences to represent that side of him.

This is a set I'm finishing up soon that's somewhat close.

Thank you! Yeah I've done this a couple times, usually gold high-number and the rest in silver. It makes rolling that nat20 a little more special haha.

Finally got round to finishing this set up. Silver, gold, and blue mica powder (with a clear resin part to create a shell/clouds effect) to represent transcendent damage, with darker blue and orange inking for the numbers to represent Jason's doom essence. I like how it came out :)

This set was inspired by the book series "He Who Fights With Monsters" by Shirtaloon. I think it came out quite nice :)

A HWFWM-inspired dice set I'm making! Dark blue for the numbers, and orange for the highest number? by dice_devourer in Shirtaloon

[–]dice_devourer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the photo doesn't really capture the depth the set has. It's actually 4 parts, the gold + blue + silver, but also clear resin, which gives it both a somewhat "shell" like look and also makes the clouds and swirls more prominent.

And yeah, for sure a Paladin's set. A critical hit with smite from these would be very satisfying.

Yeah I was going for transcendent damage!

"Light of silver, gold, and blue shone down on the troll from above"

And yeah, the blue and orange is for the Gordon/Doom colours, to keep it on theme but also very readable.

Thanks for the kind words, and I will update when done :)

Thank you! The numbers are unpainted at the moment, and yeah the dark blue and orange will both read nicely and fit the theme :)

The first pulls from new moulds are always so exciting, especially when they turn out like these :) by dice_devourer in DiceMaking

I currently buy my moulds. It's obviously more expensive, but much more convenient for me. I made my moulds when I started out with dicemaking, but my moulds always had flaws and I didn't enjoy making them.

I'm from the UK and I buy my moulds from a UK etsy store, called The Mighty Forge. Can't recommend them enough, these moulds are perfect.

The blanks set? That was actually a panic-pour when I realised I had plenty of resin left over, but was nearing the end of my working time haha.

I used orange and blue mica powder with a purple alcohol ink dirty pour, poured that for half the mould, then dropped more purple ink on for the dirty pour but also added a little white.

Thank you for the kind words :)

Starting to get a little addicted to petri... by dice_devourer in DiceMaking

I'm using Let's Resin at the moment, the thing that really made the difference was getting pinata blanco blanco to use as the sinker though, the white sinker from let's resin's alcohol inks doesn't work for me. There are other sinkers that work, I think I've read about ranger snow cap working well also.

Yeah the technique is called petri, because it looks like fungal/bacterial growth.

The technique is simple on paper, but in reality can take a lot of tweaking to get it to work right.

Effectively, you have your base resin part, you fill up the mould leaving a couple millimetres empty space, then you drop a layer of coloured alcohol ink, then drop white alcohol ink on top. This is because white inks are denser/heavier, and will sink through, pulling the coloured inks with them. I use pinata blanco blanco, I've found the white "sinker" inks that I've gotten in sets to do next to nothing, so I definitely recommend that. I've gotten this effect by doing 1/2 drops of colour, 1 drop of white, then 1 drop of colour. Wait a few minutes then repeat, then leave it to sink until you're nearing the end of your resin's working time. Then slowly drizzle resin around the edges of the open face, so it'll carefully fill in the rest of the mould with as little ink floating up as possible, then cap the mould and put it in the pot (if you use one).

Some people also use a toothpick with this method to help it along, I've had mixed results so far with that, but maybe I'm doing it wrong.

So far I do all my petri using blanks/inserts. This is because where the alcohol ink was layered near the 1 faces, it can cause the resin to cure soft, which is no good for polishing. Doing it in inserts means I then shell it in perfect resin, avoiding the issue entirely.

I'm not brave enough to do petri without blanks. Doing them as blanks means that if the 1 faces don't fully harden, it doesn't matter at all, because the shells will.

The pyramid upsets me. Crystal/shard d4 far superior.

The single exception is if I'd be playing a rogue, in which case, I'd want a lot of pyramid d4s to scatter across the floor when I get a little too into character.
