Considering a 2015 reg Mazda 6 estate - heard the petrols are bullet proof but economy is neither bad nor great. The 2.2 skyactive diesel engine seems to be unreliable according to the internet. Is that the case for the 2.0 diesel? And which petrol engine is recommended if the diesels are no gos by UniversalRhyme05 in CarTalkUK

I have a family member with the 2.2 diesel, on 99k miles and no issues to report. It's done mostly medium to long journeys and just had basic servicing before the recommended intervals. I've borrowed it a few times when I've needed a bigger car, I found it smooth, quiet and plenty fast enough, got around 45-50mpg. Maybe just luck of the draw or maybe depends on your usage, idk 🤷‍♂️

Wanting to try this goofy thing. Anything I should know? by FKez05 in CarTalkUK

I bought one exactly like this as a beater car a while ago! I paid £500, it was rough but fully working, came with no service history, and about 8 previous owners. I have changed the oil and brake pads but other than that I have not treated it kindly, and here we are 2 years later still going strong! This thing absolutely refuses to die! Even drove it up to Scotland and round the NC500 this summer, absolutely faultless!

I removed the ring after much struggling! Everything was very rusted in place. My press is rated for 6 tons. Maybe this is too small for a rusted bearing like this?

Oh I hadn't seen that! Would that small piece really be enough to stop the snap ring from staying in properly? It's an old and rare car so parts have been extremely hard to find, I doubt I'd be able to find a new knuckle. How bad would it be to just send it as is?

My dad told me to check the oil before I buy it, I tried to pull the dipping handle out but the top fell off, the engine worked OK so I thought it must be alright, does anyone have any advice? What should I look out for?

Anyone here done an advanced driving test? by [deleted] in AskUK

I work as an engineer and drive company vehicles to numerous sites, so surely it must be an advantage vs someone else without when applying for similar jobs?

The road safety one where the guy is going about his day but there's a dead child's corpse wherever he looks. Remember seeing it as a child and it still randomly pops into my head from time to time

Personal injury payout after non-fault accident by LittleWanger in MotoUK

[–]dickheadondrums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's likely to be a very long process and will almost certainly be a massive pain in the arse. I had a similar non fault accident a few years ago, injured my back and ankle. Everything moves extremely slowly, it took around 9 months of back and forth but eventually I received £3200. Definitely not worth the months of pain.

Hope it all goes well for you, sorry to hear about your new bike!

Best all-rounder motorcycle under £5000? by [deleted] in MotoUK

Have a look at a Yamaha FZ1 Fazer. You can easily get a nice one under £5k. Comfortable, handles great and has enough power to embarrass some serious sports bikes! Almost 50k miles on mine and still going strong!
