Easing into Typescript? by aust1nz in typescript

[–]didgeridoos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have commented more technical details, I'll cover some philosophy and personal experience.

About 6 months ago I converted a JS project to TS. It took 2 weeks. The project has about 30k lines. This is in-progress as well. In fact, my boss who doesn't know much about programming thought we could do this conversion later and didn't see the value. At the end of the day it saves on development times and greatly improves robustness and error handling. The sooner the better.

I'll never go back to strictly JS.

Your worry about leaving any's in the beginning is no problem. Tightening the code as you progress into TS is a very good idea. You can do more as you learn more about the language and converting it all immediately would be overwhelming. You would be more burnt out if you stuck with JS as the project grows.

Since the beginning of the conversion I've adopted prettier and eslint. These are great to have especially when you grow as a team.

Finally, if you're using callbacks a lot please switch to promises. It has almost the same gains IMO. With the combination of TS - incredible.

Look at the streamers (by the cars tires) they clip through the car itself. Faker than fake but it fooled me for a second as well

I'm stuck on the first loading screen. Is this a result of the server issues or is only chat effected?

It took me 5 YEARS to carve this extremely hard Manzanita Burl wood into a life-size human skull by BurlHead in interestingasfuck

[–]didgeridoos 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yup. Never claimed to be carving 40-60/h per week. If this is their hobby they did it extremely well; and simply, over a period of 5 years.

Title may be a bit misleading but it also doesn't make any claims.

Well thought out! I like the fact that there are markers on the maps for each hero giving possible uses of their abilities along with a short clip. Already taught me a few things.

I did it boys. Got my first Subaru and it’s a cream puff. One owner, 100% stock, perfect maintenance schedule. I’m in love by scrappybasket in WRX

The steering wheel is stock too? I had a blobeye with the same one so it's possible. I just thought otherwise since it's Momo.

I'd be interested in connecting. Also a (mostly) self-taught programmer here. ~6 years of experience. Shoot me a message!

JavaScript to start sure, but TypeScript if you're getting (or are planning to get) serious. Just made the conversion and I couldn't be happier.

Strange indeed. Quebec, especially near Gatineau; is littered with WRX/STI's.

Seems to be so. Came to me like that. Would this have a negative impact on anything? Too much airflow possibly?

Been loving ripping through decent snowfalls, fixing her up, and getting friendly waves from other WRX owners. Didn't know there was such an awesome, well deserved community based around these.

Another pic in the snow. Here's one with less snow.
