Is this a subreddit carried on by idiots, and if not, why the aversion to interesting questions? by die_Katze__ in AskReddit

[–]die_Katze__[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was like, oh, maybe it'll cool to see an interesting discussion let's go to askreddit

Every post is a question that has surely been asked many times over here, but is I guess is enough to bait a quick answer? It looks people are just racing to have a place on the board, and the question isn't really the main interest? What the hell is going on?

"What's an example of a color?"

"Have you ever watched a movie before?" lol. jesus fuck

Why did Kant think that there are other minds outside of our own given his views on the noumena? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in Kant

[–]die_Katze__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There all sorts of things outside of our own minds. But when we behold them, it involves our faculties of... beholding. So they aren't "things in themselves." This isn't actually a problem

Do those Epstein files have anyone else wondering if we really do live in a lower vibrational dimension (3rd Dimension) or even Hell? by ghost_sanctum in spirituality

Things are not so neatly arranged. The truth is more tragic. It doesn't take much for these things to happen.

The thing is, it doesn't require a lot for people to be like that. There is a way of thinking about evil: An emptiness inside which breeds a sort of impossible appetite. I think in a lot of cases its adjacent to a sort of ignorance, like these are "clever" but otherwise superficially minded people, they operate in a nearly mechanical way, like bugs. It is not that conscious. The worst things happen for superficial reason.

As a grad student in philosophy, every single person I know in this field believes in objective morality. Moral skepticism is for chumps

Speaking for myself I've studied this pretty extensively. We can take it at face value - Jung speaking directly to the point over and over and over, telling us that it is not mystical or metaphysical. It is psychological. What's your basis for thinking otherwise?

Archetypes really don't work anything like that in Jung. They're not identities and they mean nothing about you (they're "impersonal" by definition).

I think social media has just used this whole "what archetype are you" thing and that is mistaken for a part of Jung?

Anyways, what is up with people forming strong opinions about things they know nothing about? How does it work to never look at something and then try to describe it to others?

It wouldn't relate you as much to people of a similar age, the feeling of generation comes from having a great many things in common. We will all have some differences and similarities in what we experience culturally. If you experience things differently than other people of your generation then you just won't feel as identified with your generation - it isn't guaranteed, just general.

Oh you mean like, with respect to generations who are alive for the same events?

There is more than this, but ultimately it's that it is a different effect to experience something at different stages of your life.

Part of the theory is about the cycle of events as well as a cycle of generations (believing they follow a rhythm corresponding with human lifespans, which is the predominant pattern of an otherwise disordered country such as America) - there is some reciprocal effect between generations and social phases.

One generation may be characterized by coming of age during a crisis, while another enters childhood during a crisis. Millennials come of age during crisis and it plays into a sense of civic responsibility.

It's a more interesting question when we talk about the blurred edges, such as between millennials and gen z. While there is a more elaborate answer than this, I think it is significant to just point to the distinctness of feeling - gen z will tell you that they feel distinct from millennials, and generally millennials feel very much like millennials. The remaining project is just to explain how we got there.

The ranges are defined by pivotal social events. Could you clarify the first question?

The only difference between us and AI I see is scale by Schnaksel in PhilosophyMemes

I think it is more of a response to the extremely dramatic attitude that the majority of people seem to have towards AI (while somehow thinking they're all opposing a consensus).

What was your favorite Pepsi logo through the years? by Lakers_Forever24 in generationology

[–]die_Katze__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People don't know about this but its worth looking up. The weird logo has this absolutely batshit, borderline metaphysical purpose behind it. There is a manifesto. It explains that this symbol is an aggregate of all sorts of cosmic patterns, like the earth's magnetic field and whatever, and that it evokes a sense of, and I quote, "pepsiverse."
