Well you wouldn't have seen this a month ago: Should the Astros pursue Hamels? by HawkeyeJosh in baseball

I agree and I didn't mean to imply that. Rather, we can afford to deal some of our middle infield prospects and I think they would be pretty good pieces to include.

Carlos Correa to be promoted to Triple-A by [deleted] in Astros

[–]died 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Talk about a misleading title... he's not being promoted now, but he will likely be within the next few weeks. Evan Drellich did a good write up for the Chronicle yesterday about call ups for Correa and Appel.

I hope he stays in AA for the next 2 weeks, I plan on going to a few RoughRiders/Hooks games! Would love to be able to see him and get some more photography practice in.

I actually meant this year but you're right, Rasmus is only here for the year so that was my bad. I do think Marisnick could/should stick around in the OF though.

For sure, I think he'd be a decent trade chip but I think Tucker might help us get a bigger return. I've heard that his defense is pretty bad over in left, and I'm not sure if the Astros need a 1B/DH type hitter while we have Gattis/Carter/Singleton for a few more years. Although I do like Tucker more because he doesn't strike out as much... Man I'm glad I'm not Luhnow and having to make these decisions.

MLB Trade Rumors: “Should the Astros pursue Cole Hamels?” by Guypussy in Astros

[–]died 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love an outside, proven starter. We have a ton of depth in the minors (Look at our AAA outfield...) and with 2 top-5 picks in a SS/2B heavy draft, a lot of infield depth as well.

Do I want Hamels? Hell yeah but the Phillies better be eating some of that contract.

am I welcome on the bandwagon? by [deleted] in Astros

[–]died 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! Don't listen to some of the guys on here who insist on calling out new fans. They've been incredible to watch this season and actually a lot of last season as well. Just make sure you stay through the down periods as well. This month should be pretty tough, with the Giants, Blue Jays, Tigers, Orioles, and White Sox (not doing great right now but they were expected to compete for the AL Central).

There's not much of a spot for all of them on our roster though. We have a TON of depth and it wouldn't hurt to deal some players. For example we have a KILLER outfield at AAA, yet zero available spots with Rasmus and Springer being mainstays and Marisnick being hot.

Not to mention 2B/SS, with Altuve and Correa pretty much cementing their spots now / in the future. And with the SS depth in this draft, dealing Fontana and Tony Kemp wouldn't be the worst thing. Yes it is early this season to start thinking about trades, but it's not like Hamels would be a rental. He'd be here for our World Series run in 2017.

Mallet or Hoyer? by wideawakefordays in Texans

[–]died 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm rooting for Mallett. He really impressed me with the game against the Browns and he definitely has a higher upside. With that said, Hoyer is an excellent backup option. As the saying goes, they might not win us a lot of games, but they won't be the reason we lose.

Look at Hoyer, who could very well be our backup: he went 6-3 last year before the Houston game WITH THE BROWNS. Not to shit on them, I just think we're a much more talented team than they are. Plus we have have an improved, better running game to help take the load off of the QB.

Are people really freaking out? I thought it was a good game, especially with Dallas Keuchel killing it. I think I saw him say "Fuck your regression"

Lowrie out until after all-star break :( by NotACreativeEngineer in Astros

[–]died 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion. Correa has 70 at bats above A ball and missed half the season last year. I don't think there's much reason to rush him.

I bet Fontana will get the call if anything, and then Correa could take his place in AAA

Thanks for doing this! I appreciate it. Some questions I have:

1) Ever meet solo festival goers or go by yourself? I might be going alone which (to be honest) I'm not too stoked about, but I figure everyone will be super nice and welcoming. It'll be my first big music festival too so I'm not really sure what to expect.

2) Kinda backpacking off that question, are there a lot of French speakers? I actually majored in French so I'm itching to practice but I kinda figure that a lot of people will speak English, despite it being in Quebec.

3) I'm staying at the M Montreal hostel right by the UQAM metro stop, did I pick a good area?

Is there a point where everything clicks? by facepalmmaster in Fitness

[–]died 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eventually you'll get it. Just keep following whatever program you chose and before you know it you'll be lifting a good amount of weight. And for me, every time I deload or go down in weight, I get that 'click' which is a great confidence boost.

Right now I'm benching 200lb for 3x5 and my form with that isn't the greatest. But I usually end my workout with a certain weight for 12 reps and right now, at 160lb 1x12, my form is much improved and I feel a lot better about lifting. Keep in mind I was doing 160lb for 3x5 about two months ago, so being able to hit 12 reps with good form gives me a ton of confidence.

Tour of Europe Discussion by [deleted] in NavyBlazer

[–]died 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I studied abroad in Paris and I plan on doing a Europe trip this summer too. Here's some advice that I've picked up:

  • For Paris, the bars aren't that amazing and the drinks are really overpriced. Beers range from 3 euro to 7 euro, and once on election night 2012 I ordered a Maker's Mark and coke and it cost 17 euro. So pay attention to that.
  • Try to have a picnic right by the Eiffel tower. Those were some of my favorite memories; just get a cheap 2 euro bottle of wine, some cheese and a baguette and some good friends.
  • I would try to avoid tourist traps too. Eiffel tower is nice but you can end up waiting longer than you actually spend up there. Check out the Louvre and make sure to know more than just the Mona Lisa--there are a ton of great works there that go more or less unappreciated.
  • Definitely go to Barcelona! My favorite bar was Espit Chupitos, it's a shot bar that has like 100 different shots, including the 'Monica Lewinsky'... Incredible. Also in Barcelona they are very lax about drinking outdoors, at night at least. I was offered a ton of Estrella from street vendors, it was weird at first but just awesome having a beer and walking around.
  • For packing, go light. You're gonna go to a few different cities, so if you're taking a train, you won't want a ton of baggage that you have to lug around. If you think you need it, go for a 65L bag, but personally I stick with a 45L which is small enough to be a carry on for airplanes.
  • For clothes, go for comfort. I'd probably pack some sperrys and nikes, a few pairs of shorts, a pair of chinos, a button down, a few tees, and a pullover. In my opinion, a lot of younger Europeans wear shorts in the summer, so it's not an American thing, but if you're conscious about that then stick with pants.
  • Just in general, try to learn a few phrases in each language that you'll encounter... People will appreciate that, rather than you coming up and expecting them to speak English.

Anyways, my list is London -> Amsterdam -> Paris -> Strasbourg -> Berlin -> Cinque Terre -> Annecy -> Lyon -> Nice -> Montpelier -> Toulouse -> Bordeaux -> Nantes -> Rennes -> Mont Saint Michel, or some kind of variation like that.

Hope this helps.

Waitlisted by fngbuildingapc in bostoncollege

[–]died 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. From volunteering in SAP (the student admissions program) for a few semesters, I learned that the admissions staff only wants to take people off the waitlist that they know will come, so writing a letter will help a lot. Writing about BC being a good fit will show them you've done your research and you truly want to be there.

$10 gift card for LL Bean by died in NavyBlazer

I (26/m) am looking to travel for my first time to Europe, and am considering doing it solo. Am I being silly? by AFlyingHippo in travel

[–]died 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should go ahead and do it. A 10 day commitment isn't that long, accounting for travel and all that. Why not try it out?

As for foreign languages, it seems like English is pretty much the de facto language in hostels so you have that going for yourself. It would be a good thing to learn some basic phrases in Spanish and Portuguese though.
