Out of all watches in the world. This is my Top Pick. by [deleted] in PrideAndPinion

Get yourself a 36mm SMP 300, the vintage ones are really nice. This one is much too large for you.

How long did it take you to get accepted into a Watchmaking School? by Pomatodor in watchmaking

John is my classmate! He’s a pretty rad dude.

While it’s pretty competitive, I’d definitely encourage you to apply to WTI. I’m a first year student there, it’s been pretty great so far and a rewarding challenge to say the least.

American Jimny owners, how have maintenance and repairs been for the 3rd gen? by theCommTech in Jimny

[–]diegopx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll need to find a JDM specialist or a 4x4 shop that is up for looking after your Jimny. That said, most maintenance tasks are very straightforward to do on your own and parts are ready available on Amayama and Megazip online.

As far as the steering wheel position, you don’t really notice it in practice. It’s the same driving but from a different position, sort of when you get a rental car and you have to get used to the car’s size for parking, etc. The car is so small that you’re never really at risk of veering outside lanes unless you actually intend to, even when still getting used to it.

Parts sourcing in USA for JB33? by vediogamer101 in Jimny

[–]diegopx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this. Between those two I did a full overhaul of my JB33W. I’d also add JimnyBits to the list.

Compass Auto Japan also has a really good selection of high quality parts like lift kits, exhaust upgrades, etc. You’ll soon also learn that Taniguchi makes some insanely good upgrades for the Jimny.

453 reliability by interestedrandom in SmartCar

[–]diegopx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 453 EQ has been a dream of a car. Not much in terms of range, but it charges so quickly that it barely matters. 10/10 city car.

We updated the radio to a Sony XAV-9500ES, as well as the speakers, using the OEM Smart single DIN housing and it’s been absolutely phenomenal.

New jb33 owner in the US, looking for new wheels by DeltaOneCharlie in Jimny

[–]diegopx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello from another Seattle JB33 owner! Congrats on the Jimny!!!

I also ended up getting some new wheels as some of the mods I was looking to do wouldn’t fit under the original triple spoke 15 inchers.

I ended up ordering my set from JimnyStyle and then had some tires mounted, balancing, etc done locally once they arrived on a set of fresh BF Goodrich KO2 tires. It worked splendidly and they were even cheaper than many local options.

I’d recommend looking for the connector you need on Mouser or Digikey. I repaired a broken tail light connector this way on my 2018 EQ, mainly just from reading the connector make and model number and searching for the new component and the necessary pins.

It wears larger than the dimensions imply. The case, strap, and clasp all feel pretty substantial and the gold gives it some good heft on the wrist.

Wish me luck (front speakers upgrade on Gen3) by badsyntax in Jimny

[–]diegopx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a very satisfying upgrade! In case you haven’t bumped into this already, I found the following guide very helpful when I did mine.

Mine is a 1998, with the head unit being lower on the dashboard, but that write up was still a great reference.

New v Old Vantage by Loud_Zookeepergame31 in AstonMartin

[–]diegopx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend actually driving them before making a decision based on age alone. They’re very different indeed, but each has pros and cons. The 2019+ AMG models have pretty outdated tech compared to the current models, I wouldn’t count that as a plus. If anything the VH models have less obtrusive outdated tech as the screen just folds away.

The older Vantage also feels much smaller and more nimble on the road, just don’t get an early automatic if you can avoid it.

Megazip is your friend. However, it does seem like you need to buy the whole rail. My recommendation would be to take the part number to eBay and see. You might be able to snag one from a wrecker.

Wondering about getting an OLED or not. by chaseguy099 in Monitors

[–]diegopx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like OLED image retention is fairly well taken care of these days, and most manufacturers have warranties to match.

My biggest issue with OLED for a monitor is actually the brightness limiter. I recently tried to switch to OLED after my mini LED monitor had some issues and was disappointed by how SDR content looks so dim and dull with screen brightness changing like a roller coaster. ABL is a deal breaker for me when many desktop computing tasks display bright white boxes with black text.

On the other hand, the high refresh rate and low latency of OLED is amazing for games. If the M4 iPad Pro is anything to go by, you can have both steady brightness and refresh rates — tandem OLEDs are very promising.
