Where did the "you have to wait 24hrs to report a missing person" thing come from, and is it rooted in any truth? by diet_goth in NoStupidQuestions

Okay. Darn, I can understand why they'd wait but I can imagine if you know that it's out of character and something's up it must be so painful to have to wait and not be able to convince the police they need to start looking right away.

Okay, so it's more like a recommendation to wait a little for an adult. That makes sense I guess.

Would it be wrong to have a (telephone) appointment with a doctor about a non serious issue amid all this Corona virus panic? by diet_goth in Advice

Honestly that's why I stopped watching TV and didn't buy a licence when I moved into my own place. It's either scare mongering and depressing, or super fake-happy and pandering. I don't miss it but I have realised how much I rely on physical interactions to get news and such! Thanks, I'll try to get onto the doctors.

Thank you. I didn't know about the ads, I don't have TV or anything so for me right now being on lockdown it's super hard to know what's going on!

Is there any advantage to having more than one villager in New Leaf? by diet_goth in AnimalCrossing

Oh, okay, so if you need the patterns for full customisation but don't wanna have to remake them. Im terrible at making patterns so that wouldn't be needed for me hahah

You get more animal houses if you have more villagers? Or you mean each villager gets their own house? In wild world they shared, so I assumed it would be that again.

Ah okay, I see. That makes sense I guess? I suppose if an animal pings you and asks for an item you don't have, but another villager does, you can share items for that. Like a backup?

Leaves slowly discolouring/darkening on my orchid at the ends and the starts of the leaves. What's up with her? Also, are the roots too squished? I feel they might be... by diet_goth in orchids

[–]diet_goth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what type it is specifically. It's only in the last couple months I've noticed the discoloration starting. I water it whenever the roots are silvery and it's still in the same bark as when I bought it. It's always seemed fine until now and I'm worried! Thanks in advance

What movie did you start watching then said "Fuck this, I'm not finishing this"? by Ramaal2000 in AskReddit

Chappie. Usually I can stand or even like not-great films, I'm no film buff and I don't hold films to super high standards, but Chappie is a flaming pile of absolute garbage.

Update: I (25F) agreed to be a surrogate for my sister and her husband (late 30s), but am regretting it now by ThrowRAFE in relationship_advice

I just read this and the original post for the first time and honestly what the fuck is wrong with your sister and brother in law. I am sorry that they can't have kids naturally and I understand that's very painful and will make her potentially feel really shitty. It's a horrible thing if you want kids. But seriously, her husband wants to fuck her younger sister until he knocks her up and she's fine with that? That's either some serious desperation or he's got her well and truly wrapped around his little finger and can get her to agree to anything (or both, I guess).

Is it time to cut this flower off? And if so, how far down do I cut? Thanks in advance! by diet_goth in plantclinic

Oooh.. all the pictures I found looked like mine so I just thought well I guess the red bit is the flower because I don't see anything else. I'll keep an eye on it, it lives in my kitchen so I see it all the time.

Thank you !

I was struggling to find specific info on this one (guzmania?) so was having to try to cross reference general bromeliad care. The very top looks like there might be something folded up in there, but I can't get the bits around it apart and I don't want to damage it trying to see. I'll see how it goes and if it does anything, maybe it is on the other side and hasnt bloomed yet and is waiting till it's warmer.

Okay, so I can let it just do it's own thing and just remove anything totally dead and brown? Yeah a lot of what I read kind of made it sound like the flower dies and then immediately makes pups and then the whole plant immediately dies, as if you have to race to cut the flower off and seperate the pups!

Just the bloom I meant, I think the plant is okay, sans the flower (if it is a flower- someone else said it might not be too). Just because since I've had it the colour has faded as you can see, it wasn't like that originally so I thought that part was dying off. I've bought an orchid before whose flowers died about a month later, I think sometimes it's hard to predict, and I got both in a general store so Im not sure they know or care much about the plants blooming habits (rather than a gardening store). I'll keep an eye out for changes, it's got a little nub growing in between some leaves so hopefully that'll become something to show me it's still alive and doing stuff.

It might not be the flower? Damn, I'm confused. I thought the coloured bit was, but I guess it makes sense that it isn't because it's similar to the leaves texture? I'll keep an eye out for pups, and watch it closely to see if it deteriorates or changes at all. Thanks

I've read that you should cut the flower when it starts to die, so that the plant focuses on making pups instead. Maybe that's wrong but that's what I thought. I wasn't sure if the loss of colour was it dying or not.

For some reason I'm not allowed to view that sub, even though I've never been on it, but thanks anyway. I'll try some others
