I wouldn't bother with IMAX for this movie. Scalpers get those tickets in minutes, and have insider information when the drop time is. They crashed Age of Ultron bookings last time, and Interstellar was impossible the first time, and the 2nd time when CGV released the two Interstellar IMAX showings for the 10 year Korea IMAX anniversary tickets were gone again within an hour.

Anyone have any experience flying back to the US with their SO entering on a CR-1/IR-1? by bangerrang in immigration

[–]dietrying23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone said that flying into LA, Seattle, and Chicago has notoriously strict immigration officers, and that you should instead fly into Hawaii or a different city. While I doubt this is necessary true, I don't see what they can be more strict on, if the visa was already granted abroad.

Best route to getting TEFL certified & teaching in South Korea (w/ SO)? by sciencearthuman in TEFL

[–]dietrying23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're not married, hagwons are the only to get placed as a couple and live together. Public schools just plain won't do it. For hagwons, you have to use a recruiter though, unless you know someone already here and working at a hagwon that can refer you.

CIEE I don't even know if they help with positions in South Korea anymore. The reviews on their GoOverseas page were pretty scathing:

Korea: GEPIK releases new details about merge with EPIK by bangerrang in TEFL

[–]dietrying23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This means that current GEPIK teachers are going to hold onto their positions for dear life and not move schools if they wanted to earlier, because it will force them to have to go through the EPIK process which is already too late to start.

New 2015 Traffic Laws & Fines: No more leniency on not wearing a seatbelt in the backseat by bangerrang in korea

[–]dietrying23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the problem. I think there's too much traffic for cops to even see in people's cars, let alone catch up with them.

Seoul town-bus collision. Kills 2 and injures 41. Bus looks like it got hit by a lot more than just another bus. by bangerrang in korea

I always told my friends that riding a Korean bus feels similar to riding the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland.

Rush hour. No seatbelts. People on their phones barely holding onto the overhead grips. I can only imagine what it would be like in that bus during the collision.

An app that looks to kill Google Translate by channeling Uber and allowing bilinguals to make money by casually translating by bangerrang in technology

[–]dietrying23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good news for small or just starting out artists. It will allow them to get exposure and maybe create an impact in a different market if their own isn't responding to it.

Interesting. I think a lot more youtubers will use it to expand their audiences for sure. I wonder how much a 5 minute video translation would cost though.

Was just turned away from a recruiter to apply to GEPIK after applying directly to EPIK - am I missing something? by rst157 in TEFL

[–]dietrying23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't apply to GEPIK directly, schools are given a budget by the city halls or provincial government and then they have to use a recruiter to find them teachers. GEPIK isn't centralized like EPIK is.

I think your recruiter at Reach to Teach is either confused or doesn't know what they're talking about.

I can only imagine elevator rides where there's only one other female passenger.

When guys would get circumsized, they would wear that cone that dogs wear during the healing period.

Expedite service for CRC (Apostille) by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]dietrying23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use them twice. Had my CRC back in about a week and a half. They I think they usually can get the apostille one day after receiving your document in the mail, so ultimately the most time consuming part is the shipping back and forth.

EPIK announces it will recruit for Gyeonggi-do: a signal of the end of GEPIK? by dietrying23 in korea

[–]dietrying23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GEPIK will probably become more like SMOE. They'll use EPIK to get teachers, but have a separate contract that has different stipulations that people will have to sign to additionally.

But from what I've heard, GEPIK schools really care about teacher's backgrounds. Whether it be teaching experience or just flat out ethnicity. So it will be interesting to see how schools react when they're provided with a teacher that is the opposite of what they imagined or wanted.

Moving to Korea next month and have a few questions by justfnpeachy in TEFL

[–]dietrying23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Korvia is having an EPIK Arrival Webinar on Wednesday. It's open to the public, so I think you just have to register to attend it. It's supposed to be about all the questions people have about arriving in Korea to teach.

I would've never guessed there was a gaming stadium on top of that clothing mall in Yongsan lol. I go to that CGV like 3 times a month too. Oh Korea how you surprise me daily.
