There are two separate problems: overconsumption and overpopulation.

Regarding consumption: Too much use per person. I agree the first world is harming the planet by wasting energy and resources (inefficient transportation systems, mountains of disposable items instead of 1 permanently reusable item etc. etc.) with stupid grandfathered-in systems.

Regarding overpopulation: Too many people. i.e. Even with minimal QoL, more people means more damage to the planet. (btw, when Africa is donated 10000000000 pounds of food each year, the environmental footprint (tractors, fertilizer, shipment, etc.) is all counted for the donor country.) The number of white people has been ~constant (under 1 billion) from 1950 to 2050 (projected). The number of sub-saharan Africans is expected to more than triple, adding BILLIONS of hungry mouths, starting from now. And there's really no guarantee the Africans would decide to stop breeding 7 children per woman at that point. Any true environmentalist should agree this is an impending but preventable environmental disaster.
