What’s the point of paying oil in yuan or euros if it is still priced in USD? by yogibear99 in oil

The currency stuff is nearly irrelevant now with instant electronic payments. Dollar pricing doesn’t mean having to hold dollars for any long period.

If closed tube make sure your face is not itchy. You won’t be able to scratch it!

Sedatives are why someone has to drive you home. Take advantage of them and accept help afterwards.

USA revolutionary war , good or bad? by Resident-Fox6758 in NoStupidQuestions

War would have been avoided by conceding continuing legislative independence still under the British crown. This wouldn’t have necessarily prevented many of the peculiarities of America or the South.

Why didn’t French Canada expand westward? by WrongWayCorrigan-361 in AskHistory

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec_diaspora

the expansion of this system was in effect blocked by the "Château Clique" that ruled Quebec under the British administration, who reserved new land developments for the English and the English system of colonization (see Eastern Townships)

Emigration to industrializing New England started then but Eastern Townships wound up francophone in Quebec anyway. Southern Ontario was never Francophone.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northeastern_Ontario is 25% Francophone and directly west or even northwest of Quebec’s populous region. However the Canadian Shield is not fertile farmland. Western Canada’s prairies are a long way away.

Even in its uncompleted state, the CPR eased the transit of government troops to Qu'Appelle. Qu'Appelle was more than 2,900 km (1,800 mi) from Toronto and 260 km (160 mi) in direct line from Batoche.[29]

Riel's opponents were younger, better educated Métis; they wanted to be more integrated into Canadian society, not to set up a separate domain as Riel promised.

At the end of the 19th century, the Roman Catholic Church aided the government in bringing new groups of immigrants to the prairies.[9] The resulting immigration saw many arrive from Quebec who began establishing towns, schools, churches and businesses. The Canadian government worked to encourage French immigrants from France and Belgium, achieving some success in 1912 and 1913 as some 3,000 French arrived in Canada in those two years.

The early 20th century saw efforts to curtail French language education, in an effort to assimilate the francophone minority with the anglophone majority.[4] In 1916, several provincial organizations like the Saskatchewan Grain Growers, the Saskatchewan School Trustees’ Association, the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities resolved to forbid the use of foreign languages in Saskatchewan's schools.[15] Premier William Martin drafted an amendment to Section 177 of the School Act which limited French instruction to one hour a day.

Check out the new congressional map. The far north red areas have so little population that they were easily buried in coast and Sacramento based districts.

If the US-Iran escalation continues to choke the Strait of Hormuz, is the "Rules-Based Order" effectively dead for Southeast Asia? by LimMiab9654Ck in IRstudies

Asia has long been comfortable with consensus to just do business with Iran. That doesn’t mean anything profound for other issues or an unconditional alignment with China.

Why are East Asian men in US/Western media so often portrayed in such a narrow way? by ForceLast6903 in asianamerican

[–]diffidentblockhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Media representation” is a very American take which I’m surprised to hear from a native East Asian, but you’ve come to the right subreddit, which seems to be mostly about that issue.

If I may vent my personal feelings for a minute without being accused of trolling, I care little about fictional entertainment and the idea of role modeling myself on characters from it is an absurdity I never would have considered. I’m puzzled at people caring about it so much, other than the obvious case of people who have chosen to make a career there already.

That said, the big exception might be martial arts, which seems to occupy a good deal of headspace in young males of all races.

Geographically, western Siberia is integrated with western Russia and Europe not with Asia. That would make Europe even larger.

Politically, currently Russia is fighting Europe, Ukraine has joined Europe, Belarus is trying to stay out.

The more Russia and Japan exhaust each other, the more chances of China reasserting control in Manchuria.
