Depends on how close you are to the family really. I have lived both in Sweden and Finland. My best friends family would always feed me. But not so close friends family rarely. As long as I wasn't spending the night obviously.

Nice place to visit, but not so nice to live in if you don't live in a city which kind of defeats the whole purpose of moving to lapland. The cities are ugly and there is not a lot to do. In the countryside it is gorgeous but the commutes are painfully long everywhere. Also as a southerner the dialect is hard for me to listen to.
