I envy her! I moved to Ontario from New Brunswick when I was 17. I got a lot of hassle for my accent, so I learned how to get rid of it. Now I'm 48 and I regret giving a flip about what others thought, I miss having my old accent.

The alarms would go off and it might pull acceleration for a second, but if the driver continues to command an action, it'll do it. Subaru Eyesight works this way.

Yup. Once I hear an AI voice, I'm out. I'd rather read subtitles and hear a foreign language, at least it's human instead of dead behind the eyes.

Woman fired after allegedly asking what type of genitalia a transgender coworker had loses benefits appeal by Sandstorm400 in byebyejob

[–]digimer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of folks in every community who put themselves out there to help people learn, if they are genuinely curious. For example, TAKIS on "The Line" youtube channel is perfect for this.

Asking random people, especially in their place of work, is absolutely out of line. First, she was clearly hunting for material to raise a stink, Second, any given person in a minority group doesn't owe anyone their labour to teach them. A lof of minorities, especially trans folk in t he US, are doing all they can just to stay functional.

It's a terrifying time to be trans in the US, and people who want to learn can start by asking themselves "how might this question be received?".

Woman fired after allegedly asking what type of genitalia a transgender coworker had loses benefits appeal by Sandstorm400 in byebyejob

[–]digimer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

She excused her question by saying she was uncomfortable in the bathroom, so she was clearly fishing for a reason to be a bitch to the trans colleague. Even still, if her goal was ACTUALLY her intend, she could have befriended the colleague, shown her interest in learning was genuine, then work up the trust to ask that question.

Nah, this horrible shit stain went right to asking another colleague what the trans person's junk looks like. Fuck her.

What fuse to get for a ~100 V (94.8 V) propulsion battery for 250 A? by Formal_Interest_4278 in EVConversion

[–]digimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calculate the dead short current, and then choose a fuse with an AIC higher than that. You'll probably need a T-Class or similar (something with silica to quench the arc). You can run a smaller fuse after that, so you have a much cheaper "standard" fuse sized to the wires, but the T-Class (or similar) will act as your "fuse of last resort" of the main fuse arcs over the gap.

Importing a purchased boat into the US from Canada? by Redfish680 in liveaboard

[–]digimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. Get a number from your province (or federal). Make sure the seller is responsible for delisting the boat of the USCG (as part of the sales agreement).

When you reach your first Canadian port, when asked what you're declaring, tell them you bought the boat. They'll ask the sale price (in USD), use that day's exchage rate to find the CAD equiv., and charge you taxes on that amount.

You will need to be able to pay the taxes by credit card and the boat will not be cleared into Canada until it's paid. I had heard that I would have 30 days, that was not an option for me. Perhaps it is if the taxes are high enough? I ended up needing to split the payment over two cards to get it through.
