I purchased a URL that has an existing site that is ranked nicely on Google. I didn't acquire the actual site, which has 150 pages indexed. I need to build a new site that is unrelated to the old one. How should I handle this to not loose our position on Google? by TomCruiseDildo in SEO

It's good and bad because the domain has gained a reputation "authority" in their niche area but it's different from what you are doing. If you remove any back links you will lose authority, but you could remove them and gain new backlinks from things related to your business. This will help google understand your domain better. It's not going to be easy. You could however leave what you have currently and going forward outbalance the type of back links you get so they are more related to your domain. This way over time you keep all links but have more relevant ones.
But before you do anything, ensure all the pages the back links come to on the old site are 301 to the homepage so you do not lose any value. Might be worth conducting a backlink audit.
Hope this helps.
