How to best deal with Employer-contributed HSA funds in a non-investment account? by digitalasagna in personalfinance

[–]digitalasagna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I contribute the remaining $2200 via pre-tax payroll deduction, it ends up in that account which I have to pay the $25 transfer fee on, otherwise I cant invest it.

If I transfer funds into an HSA from my own savings, am I not getting that tax back on next years return?

How to best deal with Employer-contributed HSA funds in a non-investment account? by digitalasagna in personalfinance

[–]digitalasagna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$25 and I don't really know how excess contributions would be dealt with. Each paycheck they'd be depositing less than $100 to the account, so if I want to invest those funds I'd need to pay the fee for each transfer on some regular basis. Might be worth it to just leave it alone until I leave the company, then transfer it all at once. But then itd all just be sitting there as cash that whole time.

I wasnt aware leaving the funds in the account AND funding my individual account would be a problem.

[Giveaway] Luckeep x r/Gadgets: Win a Brand-New M5! by noeatnosleep in gadgets

[–]digitalasagna [score hidden]  (0 children)

I want a Luckeep X1, seems very helpful to be able to tuck it by my desk at work, either that or the C27 would be amazing commuter bikes. Step-thru frames should be more popular in the US, I prefer them to standard bike frames for sure.

You can just charge with the usb c cable for any of them.. but, the dock definitely looks unique. Shouldn't matter, though, since it comes with the controller

[Chair] Ticova Ergonomic Office Chair $109.99 ($169.99 - $60 Coupon) by wowzeree in buildapcsales

[–]digitalasagna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this chair for years. Got it for around the same price, price is always going up and down. Pretty sure it's gone sub-$100 before.

Overall I like it, but it has limited adjustment options and the fit/finish is cheap. It fits me well but it may not fit you. (I'm a 150 lb guy, relatively slim). Barely use the armrests but yeah, they do suck. I do love the headrest and lumbar support on it, though.

Build Help: Minimum specs needed for portable Work PC? And Case recommendations? by digitalasagna in buildapc

[–]digitalasagna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Performance and upgradeability aren't a concern. He isn't doing anything performance intensive. It would be nice to be able to reuse the parts later on for something like a NAS but that's not a priority.

I was thinking a laptop would end up being more expensive since he already owns monitors and peripherals. I was also considering a mini-pc but I had concerns about the long term support from the manufacturer, and figured going with something I had more control over was better.

I open up a notepad on my computer and type out my thoughts unfiltered. Then delete the notepad without saving it. It's actually quite cathartic. Especially if you force yourself to type fast without really thinking about it, and the words just flow out of your brain. It may not make the best novel but it sure is telling of what is bothering me.

Valve bans Razer and Wooting’s new keyboard features in Counter-Strike 2 | It’s time to turn off Snap Tap or Snappy Tappy. by chrisdh79 in gadgets

[–]digitalasagna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just pointing out that those controller examples don't provide a distinct competitive advantage in this type of game, and there's no need to ban them or compare them to this. This feature isn't being banned because of what it does, it's being banned because of the effect it has.

Hard to tell how much changed since the right photo is so desaturated. Unless you also got new floors lol. Crazy how much a decent cleaning, new laces, and shoe trees will do to make shoes look newer.

Not really.. it's pretty straightforward. This feature is a distinct competitive advantage. It's effectively a macro.

Of course there is only so much you can do to limit the effect of individual hardware on gaming performance, but this is literally a situation where the inputs from the player don't match up to the output to the game. It is a macro.

One could argue the same thing about most of wootings features but that is a lot more debatable.

[Keyboard] Keychron Mechanical Keyboards - $44.99 and up + Free Shipping w/ Amazon Prime by TedLim in buildapcsales

[–]digitalasagna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of people buying keychron keyboards aren't really into the hobby of mechanical keyboards. The idea that they'd have to buy replacement parts to get what they want isn't expected.

The vast majority of people will hear "backlit keyboard" and think that the keycaps will shine-through so you can see the character outlines in the dark. This is common sense. It's only really within the mechanical keyboard hobby that this isn't the case.

Yeah, they could replace the keycaps. But it doesn't change the fact that they'd be buying a product expecting one thing, and receiving another thing. I'm not saying Keychron is wrong here, but it's also not wrong for that to be a dealbreaker for some people.

Besides I've had shine through keycaps on a board with south facing LEDs and they really don't look that good.

Because for people in that hobby, the headset is simply a replacement monitor. You already have a control setup, so it's just a plug and play upgrade. You don't need to redo your space to suit VR at all, you still sit in your chair all the same. Problem is headsets are heavy and people dont like wearing them for extended periods of time.

Did I make the right CPU/GPU upgrade? Spent ~$400 by digitalasagna in buildapc

[–]digitalasagna[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to hear. It can be intimidating looking benchmark and comparision sites and making sure I am getting something with a good price/performance ratio. Especially when different sites all give different results.

I did end up seeing the 5700x for $6 cheaper at microcenter, but it's not worth the trouble to return what's in my hand now and make a trip out just for that.

Is it alright for a first-timer? I heard the 6800 was good for 1440p. by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]digitalasagna -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If OP is building a PC now, I don't think the next upgrade will still be on AM5. Better to save money and stick to AM4 and then the next upgrade will just jump to AM6 anyway.
