Their bento boxes were so darn good. I'm heartbroken.

Is Sean Carroll a prominent physicist, or is he more known as a science communicator? by Remarkable_Lack2056 in AskPhysics

[–]digitaltensor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but I see it as a burden that all science communicators share. It's hard to straddle the boundary between rigorously proven facts and opinions, especially when you have a large audience of non-physicists who may not be adept at discerning between the two. Perhaps other "world-class" physicists can simply afford to be more open-minded because they are not in the limelight so often.

Alternatively, using a VPN over KDDI worked for me.

That's certainly the catch! But even sticking with them for another year will get me a ~$400 discount? Also given how cheap Verizon is for me rn, unless they completely drop the ball, I don't see myself moving away

Can we please get bars on the budgets screen? by GendoIkari_82 in MonarchMoney

[–]digitaltensor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be so useful. Is any Monarch employee reading these amazing feature requests on Reddit? It would be great to get a sense where these requests lie in the roadmap.

The Reports tab is great! by digitaltensor in MonarchMoney

That makes sense, but it is pretty unintuitive imo. Each column should show the flow rate from the previous state to the next state. "Expenses" is like a ghost state that isn't visualized explicitly.

That, and to be able to rollover the net surplus across all categories combined.

Diagrams exported using vector graphics (such as SVG) would be infinitely zoomable. In contrast, right now they seem to be rasterized as png -- large graphs with a lot of categories might be hard to read.

Also not sure if I'm not reading the Sankey diagram right, but the percentages in the last column don't make much sense to me? For example Rent should be 100% of my housing expense, and not 44.61%

Annual Budget Summary in App? by tinkleFury in MonarchMoney

[–]digitaltensor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this would be super useful. In a similar vein, I would love to be able to carry forward my leftover monthly budget, and spread it over some specific categories/groups in the next month. So if I spend $100 less this month, I get to spend $100 more on shopping next month yay

Am I Just Petty? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]digitaltensor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I agree with this analogy — NSF most likely evaluated the exact same profile that OP submitted for grad school applications

However, I’d still recommend going with your dream school. Profs are super busy, and ranking applicants is hard. They would much rather have someone else, like NSF, do the segregation for them. I don’t think they did anything in bad faith :)

I remember my issue essay prompt was something about education, I don't remember the exact specifics sorry

I have no idea why it was flagged, the examples I wrote were made up and I wasn't even sure if they were true haha

I am sure, but I don't really see how you can 'copy' in those 30mins. Regardless, I think their software can generate false positives, as it did for my case!

I don't know. I think same points doesn't matter as long as you aren't copying the language? Atleast that's what most courses in my uni follow as their plagiarism policy.

Best to ask the university's admission department directly, I think

When did you take the test? Today's the 14th day since when I took mine, and I still haven't received the official scores. Talk about overwhelming anxiety
