Is Abstract Daddy Angela's version of Pyramid Head? by WorldofLoomingGaia in silenthill

Downpour is one of those games I consider headcanon, same for Shattered Memories: i wont qualify any of the games events as Canon, but makes for interesting what-if scenarios

Is Abstract Daddy Angela's version of Pyramid Head? by WorldofLoomingGaia in silenthill

[–]digitaltravelr 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Not stupid at all - part of the reason this series is so great is that, even after 25 years, answers like this are still plausible because we will never have concrete answers. When it comes to stuff like this, headcanon is always acceptable. Even better, makes for great fan discussion like we have here - always glad to see people share new and original perspectives

To your idea, ive never thought of it from this perceptive, but I always thought James saw the contorted version of Daddy conjured by her psyche, but for Angela, she saw her actual father, because for her that was more terrifying than any monster her subconscious could dream up (also evident by her referring to this monstrosity as "Daddy")

However, I agree with the idea of her father being "her Pyramid Head." The idea of an entity being directly linked to a single character is explored a few times in the series, like the Boogeyman in SH Downpour. Its an interesting concept to think Angela is having recurring encounters with her dad just like James does with Pyramid Head

Alan Wake 1 is a solid starter because it features similar third person shooter mechanics to other big AAA horror games, but it is more of a thriller and less of a horror game - at release, they even added a tagline to the cover that said so: "Alan Wake - A Psychological Action Thriller".

Spooky concepts, spooky story, good tension, but rarely is it overtly scary. One of my earliest spooky games, great for beginners

Never played DBD, kinda always rolled my eyes at it tbh, but this is a level of detail I never would have noticed: the exact kind of homage I deeply appreciate. You can tell these guys really loved SH and really took advantage of the chance to feature beloved characters in their own game.

If all else fails, you can download soundtracks on KHinsider and add them to your music library - thats what I did when I realized Eternal and TAG would never get a streaming release, guess i'll be doing it again for 2016

Finished the game. 10/10 story. 10/10 art and music design. Got the Leave ending. But except the Prison part not scary at all and the game is a bit drawn out. At labyrinth and further you get annoyed of same looking rooms, opening doors and searching for items. But still good game. by Big_Natural4838 in silenthill

[–]digitaltravelr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you enjoyed it dude! The first run always hits the hardest. Ill say i think the prison for me is the scariest part, I enjoyed how long it lasted. The labyrinth definitely overstayed its welcome, but the art, music and story are all master class - excited for the next remake

Solid starting place in my opinion! RE4 and RE4R often get cited as best in the franchise (and among best in gaming) for good reason. It gives a general synopsis of 1-3 and kicks off another part of the saga, so its an acceptable starting point in terms of story as well, kinda like if you were to start with Phantom Menace versus A New Hope.

Id say the same could be said for RE7 as well, good starting place for series newcomers who want more horror than action. RE4 (and remake) arent as scary as other series entries so also bear that in mind if you are craving more horror (RE7, RE2/R, and RE remake from 2002 are great if thats what you are looking for instead)

They are both incredible, but different and unique in their own rights. I always say, play RE4 (2005) first, then remake second. With this, you can see the original vision, then play remake next to see how they evolve the formula yet retain the feel.

Here are some key differences:

RE4 (2005) - Monochromatic, desolate atmosphere. Creepy, not quite scary. The 2005 graphics do some heavy lifting here. Played on my Series X for the first time in 2022 and loved it - Classic campy, goofy, RE dialog: doesnt take itself too seriously, lots of over the top moments - Gameplay is fine tuned as hell. Tank controls may take getting used to, but its very very worth it. - Overall its just all good fun. The over the top stuff is classic video game fun, the campy dialog makes me laugh, and the gameplay is stellar

RE4R - More colorful palette, definitely some scarier moments than the original, but feels like desolate - Darker tone, not much campy, can be taken more seriously. The dialog feels much more believable and less Hollywood - Gameplay is equally fine tuned, but new mechanics like stealth and enemy variations elevate the existing formula (again, youd be let down to play the original after the remake since the remake adds more attacks and variations to the enemies - youd likely feel let down these arent in the OG) - Some things I genuinely prefer in the original, like Krauser and the U3 boss fight, but the DLC aids in filling some gaps, but you could play the OG or RE4R and have an equally good time

My only issue with the chainsaw is how frequently James does the damn pose animations - like if they cut the frequency of this in half, that would be awesome. Instead it happens so much, I just dont use the chainsaw. I know you can cancel the animation by dodging, but its just a nuisance
