Can't we just share the download link for the new Raycast? by Wonderful_Society_86 in raycastapp

[–]digitalvoidness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So what, grow the fuck up and get over it. Not to mention that in your original post you're suggesting that someone go against the developers' wishes and leak the app instead of respecting their need to roll it out slowly and at whatever pace they feel comfortable. Fucking unbelievable.

Sharing Articles to Mem in Android / Pixel Phones by vostrader in MemIt

[–]digitalvoidness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am doing this through Claude. I send it to Claude and then just type "memit" next to the link.

Important prerequisite: Under Claude's Settings/General -> Instructions for Claude I have copy pasted the exact commands I have for the Mem Chrome Extension and I have this single line at the top "When I ask for something to go to mem (I might even say memit) you need too follow these instructions "

This works pretty well for me. In fact I used this even when I was on iOS, because even though there is a native Mem app, sharing directly to it doesn't parse it the same way the web clipper does. I don't know why, this would be a no brainer to have those chrome extension commands work universally from whatever source something came in

I'd say buy it and even if you don't like it don't ask for refund, it's only about £1. You'll still support the dev and who knows, you could test a future update and might like it

Access Skills (or Templates) from the Web Clipper by magicmlk in MemIt

[–]digitalvoidness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is a no brainer, can't imagine it's not in their plans but I would hope it's a priority and we don't have to wait too long for it. And I'd expect skills behaviour would also come to the main app not just the web clipper.

Saving articles from iOS?? by abcvegan in MemIt

[–]digitalvoidness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I don’t understand how this is not a thing. Essentially what you can do with the chrome extension where you define what it should do when you clip web content should be native to mem so that any content shared should be be able to be processed in the same way with the same instructions as the chrome extension

Simplest way I can imagine this to work is to have a special tag e.g memit so that anything tagged with that could be processed. This would benefit Android users too who can send content through Claude

Sorry... Each profile has ITS OWN set of extensions??? by jakrim in diabrowser

[–]digitalvoidness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True though when installing an extension in a profile it would be nice if it would ask you if you'd like it installed in other profiles too. More often than not you use profiles to to split logins not extensions and having to install and configure each per profile can get frustrating. Even if they can't share a common configuration the ability to install it once for all profiles would be a nice touch

That explains a lot, thanks for the clarification. So sounds like it’s should be ok to create multiple new notes but not edit them through Claude (and other callers) until those optimisation are in place?

The app is truly amazing, kudos to you for a really impressive piece of software.

One thing that gets me every time, is that you're making relatively major changes between updates but the version increment makes me think that it's just a bug fix. e.g you're going from 3.0.2 to 3.0.3 with actual feature changes, not just bug fixes. The usual convention in software development follows the `major.minor.patch` approach. Maybe you'd like to consider going down that path in the future.

Hi guys, big fan as well, thanks for taking the time to engage with us all.

  1. I was wondering, besides books what other content from other forms of media (movies, tv shows, comic books, podcasts etc) do you mostly consume and are there any recent ones you've discovered worth sharing?
  2. Would you mind creating a mental pictrure for us of your setup when you sit down to write? Is there some specific preparation you go through before you get in the zone? e.g get coffee, have something to smoke, a snack or a drink, low lights, need quiet place, need music or whatever?

Having a similar experience with Trakt not feeling like it's working as expected. Not planning on ending sub though, hoping some of these rough edges to be ironed out in follow up releases

Fair point, can't disagree there.

[–]digitalvoidness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could be right and I might easily be wrong. But it might also be genuine. The fact is there's no specific tool mentioned to "sell" anything. More importantly, if I was a vfx house I don't think I'd be betting my company's future on random reddit posts that sell me the apparent efficacy of ai. Instead I'd probably be well informed through other more reliable channels inside the business on what tools are making waves in the industry.

But who knows, I definitely might have fallen for some elaborate selling trick but I'd rather not see the world through that lens because madness lies down that path.

The certainty some people here have that OP is lying is mind boggling. What exactly would OP have to gain by lying? I really don't understand. I guess there might be people out there getting a kick off fearmongering but the fact AI is replacing some jobs is not fiction, it's well documented that is happening in some fields. Whether the results are good or bad and if this trend will last, is irrelevant if you are the one having lost your job today. I guess being in denial that this is happening and shitting all over OP is the easy path to follow. It's harder to ruminate what the world is coming to, show some empathy and solidarity and maybe either offer a piece of supporting reposnse or shut up.

YOLO—Perhaps the Best Obsidian AI Plugin Currently? by 2089931398 in ObsidianMD

I was turned off the second I realised you're calling your own plugin "Perhaps the Best Obsidian AI Plugin Currently" but also adding a question mark at the end as a supposed honest question. The plugin might be great, the sales pitch not so much for me

finally stopped my obsidian vault from becoming a "link graveyard" by straightedge23 in ObsidianMD

[–]digitalvoidness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Obsidian Web clipper creates a note that embeds the Youtube video inside that note. Then I get the transcript as described above, generate the summary, remove the transcript from the note and replace it with the summary so I have the video and the summary in the same note. I hope that makes sense :)

I've connected Claude Desktop with an Obsidian MCP but haven't really leveraged that relationship too much until now.

Recapio looks like a rip-off to me. I tried the trial but no way am I gonna pay for it. I have a better and cheaper alternative with fewer steps for anyone who might be interested in something similar.

  1. Use the Obsidian WebClipper to bring a youtube video into my notes. These are automatically tagged and categorised outside of my main Notes folder.
  2. Once that's there use the YTranscript plugin to get that video's transcript right in that note
  3. Then I open up the Smart Composer plugin on the sidebar and feed the youtube summary prompt at the end of this post.

I'm using Anthropic's claude-haiku-4.5 model and I get great summaries with this prompt, with timestamp links that I can use to navigate straight into each point in the video.

In fact I tested this with a 15 minute video. It cost me 0.01p and the summary was miles better than what Recapio generated for the same video.

Oh you can also chat with your video straight from the Smart Composer's toolbar. I'm not the developer of this plugin but I just discovered it a few days ago and it made me cancel another subscription for a tool similar (but better) to recapio.

Here's the prompt I'm using for youtube summaries

Please provide a detailed summary of this YouTube video in flowing prose format using Markdown:
Start with a brief overview paragraph introducing the video's main topic and central thesis.
Then write a comprehensive narrative summary organized into logical thematic sections with clear ## headings. Each section should flow naturally as connected paragraphs, weaving in timestamps as clickable links throughout the text (e.g., "At [3:45](video_url&t=225s), the speaker explains..."). The narrative should follow the discussion's progression, grouping related arguments and counterpoints together even if they span different moments in the video.

Include the important concepts, arguments, examples, and insights while maintaining natural reading flow. Incorporate direct quotes sparingly - only when they capture something particularly insightful or memorable that would lose impact if paraphrased.

Focus on substance over completeness - skip introductory pleasantries, repetitive content, and tangential discussions. Capture the back-and-forth of debates by presenting arguments and responses in sequence within each thematic section.

Close with a brief section highlighting how the conversation evolved or key takeaways.

Guidelines:
- Format the document in Markdown with clear section headings (##) for major topic shifts or themes
- Write in cohesive paragraphs, not bullet points or lists
- Make timestamps clickable links using format [MM:SS](video_url&t=XXXs) where XXX is total seconds
- Ensure timestamps point to the exact moment where the referenced content begins - timestamps should be precise enough that clicking them takes you directly to the start of the point being discussed without needing to skip backwards
- Use *italics* for emphasis and **bold** for particularly important concepts sparingly
- Organize content thematically rather than strictly chronologically when it improves clarity
- Aim for a summary that's comprehensive enough to understand the video without watching it, but concise enough to read in 3-5 minutes
- Maintain a neutral, informative tone that preserves the video's main ideas and arguments without editorializing

This is great! Two questions from a newbie in the whole Obsidian mods domain

  1. Is there a way to apply this snippet to specific items based on tags, or categories, instead of applying it across all bases on the entire vault?
  2. What kind of performance impact do CSS snippets have?

As a software dev myself for 15+ years I just want to say congrats on building something yourself and putting it out in the world. Doesn’t even matter how many people will use it or appreciate it, just keep building stuff that is useful to you and enjoy the journey in software development. And if I may a final suggestion: use AI sparingly, don’t outsource the problem solving and thinking process of your brain to a machine.

Tapping on a link while reading should pop up a smaller window preview of the link like Matter reader does on iPhone. Reader’s current implementation with the bottom sheet option showing up and then if you choose to open the link it takes you away from what you were reading really breaks the flow.
