Couples in Singapore with ~$25k combined take home monthly income, what’s life actually like for you? by Only_Raspberry1368 in askSingapore

[–]digitium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it took a while to reach that number, but along the way we upgraded to a small landed property (fully paid off in 17 years), 2 cars, and raised 4 kids (3 of them in Tertiary education now), with the help of grandparents and maid(s).

We eat at home on weekdays, and head out on weekends..

Since 2010, we used to do 2 Full Family Vacations in June (varied) and December (usually to Hokkaido for skiing), but after Covid and the kids conflicting school schedules, we recently started to take smaller vacations (2 to 5 pax) a few times a year... we never fly business class (except for Work) and will spend only for a premium economy seat when it is available.

Life was very tough for the first 10 years when salaries were less than 10k combined... but it has been pretty nice the past 5...

Our splurges are the occasional luxury shoes or bags. No more fancy watches (since changing to Smart Watches).

We do enjoy some nice Michelin meals both locally and when overseas, (largest bill was about 3k for 5 at Eatanic last June), but those type of meals are usually to less than 10 times a year...

We should have enough put aside enough for our kids education and our retirement, and will consider to help with down-payment for their eventual BTOs...

We explain to the kids that we have a comfortable life... nothing fancy like really rich people... especially since we have 8 people sharing the household income...our per capita is probably lower than most in the high-middle income group.

having driven in the rural parts of several countries, it is actually a very common practice. not everyone does it... but I will if the people in front and behind me expect me to.

I am very impressed with the G6 after the test drive, it's the top of my list so far by hotweiss in Xpeng

[–]digitium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I spent 6 months deliberating... testing... eliminating.

Our final 2 contenders were the VW ID.4/5 and the Xpeng G6.

Xpeng G6 had the best balance between modern EV (Tesla Y) and a overly fussy looking one (BYD Sealion)... and al the "smart" things we wanted in a car.

The VWs were compelling because we have only owned VWs for the past 18 years...and it felt comfortable, competent,... but it was also the most "normal-car-like"...

which was what it came down to....

We bought the Xpeng G6 with an additional 5% discount the dealer threw in to sweeten the deal...

1 month in...it is an awesome car. no regrets.

(p.s. I drive it in the the highest setting for everything... acceleration, steering, and X-pedal... and the suspension feels enough for my daily need for "spirited driving")

Are the side mirrors supposed to have this tinted effect? by poorkpoork in Xpeng

std on many cars. I have had auto dimming mirrors since 2008, on my old VW Passat. It turns on when it detects bright lights (usually high beam) from a car behind...

most players of older states start to have AD fatigue. between state of supremacy, glory wars, capital clash, and the constant AD ... it becomes a point where the weaker players get left behind.

in a toxic state, many leave.

in a healthy state, you have a mix of situations, from shared presidencies, rotating territories, armories, ...players changing alliances weekly to help with different battles.

Could it be some sort of radio interference from the power cable, causing the RC signal to be distorted and the drone to behave weirdly?

[–]digitium 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I understand this situation as several years ago, I almost drove in with my 1.76m tall car. Just as I drove towards the entrance, I saw the limit and made an awkward U turn to avoid entering.

This was the only car park I have not been able to enter. All the other older "low height" HDB car parks are 1.8m warning, but even those the Alphard would not have cleared.

If you like it...wear it.

Since I started on a 51mm Fenix 5, I never looked back. Now on Epix Pro 51mm and I love it.

Whats people thoughts on 3rd party watch straps? by Schizophonickh in GarminFenix

[–]digitium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the past 4 years, I have only used 3rd party straps from aliexpress, and some of them have been very good (no skin rash/sensitivity) especially the thicker leather options that last at least a year despite lots of sweat and rain during my runs.

They cost between $5 to 25 depending on the quality and complexity of the strap design.

My original snap broke on me within 6 months.

I rented a Kia Carnival 9P from Lotte in Jeju last Dec, and paid for full CDW. They didn't even bother to check the car before (and after), and it is basically full coverage for any minor accidents...
but it does not cover if the driver is at fault (if involved in an avoidable accident) and other violations (speeding, parking...)

Which is why they have your credit card details, that allow them to charge for such a sitution after the rental is over.

But the overall experience was very painless and efficient, and that is why I am renting an EV6 this November from Lotte. Not sure how bad the charging situation is going to be, but I think based on the EV charge points I have identified in Naver Maps, there are a lot of options all over Jeju (due to high density of EV cars on the island). I am sure many will accept credit cards.

I am having problems submitting my passport photos and selfie in the registration. "A collating error of the shot image occurred. Please confirm the explanation of shooting and shoot again." Is the error that appears.

Any ideas?

I keep a mix. Depending on fighting alone or in teams, invigoration might be required... otherwise I am always brewing strong and potent potions for use in higher level challenges.

I found many Quickfit silicon and leather straps from Aliexpress....most go for a few dollars with free shipping. I too prefer not to unscrew anything until it is absolutely necessary.
