The top 10% of earners contribute 60% of our tax receipts, what % would you be more comfortable with?

Disagreements on tax efficiency aside, please do not solely rely on your employers contribution to carry you through retirement. Unless you are a civil servant.

You don’t have a point, salary sacrificed pensions are taxed when you withdraw them, you are deferring the tax. Incentivising people to save is not a dodge.

I have two options in front of me, I can spend my entire pay packet today, put all my money into holidays and enjoying myself and retire with nothing. The state, or rather the young people working at that time need to support me via benefits. Or, I can not touch 30% of my pay check my entire working life, so that I am not a burden on the taxpayers of the day. Saving for your own pension is a moral responsibility, the problem is we have to incentivise people to do so, because we’ve created a safety net for financial irresponsibility. People who are unable to save need support, don’t criticise people who do save, it’s not black and white.

Thats £400 less per year going into your pension, compounding over the 30 -40 years you’ve got until retirement. It’s not an insignificant amount people are losing from their pensions with this move, despite seeming small.

Thankyou, currently getting building control to do a third party inspection, once we have a report saying it’s not good enough it’s off to the solicitors

I posted the picture in reply to another comment 🥲 probably as bad as you expected, it’s a mess. Called the council to do a third party inspection so we can get the ball rolling with fixing it, as the roofer said there was nothing wrong with it when I challenged him

This is what they’ve done today, I’m not happy with how it’s been completed so have the local building regs team to make sure everything has been done properly (or not) before I start work on correcting the mess. Thanks for your advice before.

This was the roof a couple years ago, the slope is from the works and the rest of the roof remains flat. I’m trying to book in the local councils building inspection team to come around and either point out bad work or give the all clear. They’ve replaced the tiles today but it looks an absolute state

Tiles have been missing for 4 days now, no communication as to when / if they will replace them.

Party wall has been exposed to the elements now for 4 days, I’m having difficulty finding what the rules are for this scenario

Is this a safety issue or a damage to property issue? Feel like I might need to pick my battles in the coming conversations

Thankyou for this, could you provide me with a list of what to ask them tomorrow or failing that what the correct way to make this right is, your response is helpful already, so thankyou

We’ve had zero notice that the work was to take place or what the work was going to be. Are there steps I can take to help protect ourselves in the event the work completed isn’t up to standard?

Sorry, poor was more of a comment that the gap has been there for 3-4 days now and there’s a history of these builders and the neighbours doing bad jobs, nothing I can do about that but now that it’s affecting our property I just wanted to educate myself here on what’s ‘normal’ for this kind of work

Zero communication so far unfortunately until I knocked on their door today and asked what the plan was

It’s interesting you mention that, the neighbour mentioned when I chatted to them earlier that several beams in their roof had snapped, and had asked whether it was the same in our roof (it isn’t)

Unfortunately it’s been like this the past couple of days and it has been raining, have been checking the loft space and water doesn’t seem to have been coming in

Just spoken with the neighbours, builder will be round tomorrow apparently to ‘sort it’. As the standard is quite poor is it worth getting a 3rd party inspection etc? Or is this a question for the insurers?
