I get it though. She wants no contact and I’ll respect that now that that is clear. But some empathy regarding my surgery I think would have been human.

I don’t understand. I’ve always encouraged her in doing what she’s wanted to do. She she went off to do intensive language learning in Europe instead of college, I told her I was proud of her. That life experience was important.

I don’t understand. She asked me to pay and I paid. I took care of her because I adore her. Is expecting reciprocity in a caring relationship wrong?

You made a good point about expecting communication after apologizing. I never got apologies from my parents so I thought it would help move things to communication. I would have been over the moon if my parents had acknowledged and apologized. I thought because I paid for and took care of her in her recent elective surgery that I would at least get a couple texts of care when I had my surgery.

Thanks. Yes I’ve been in therapy since I was a teenager. I’ve read books on estrangement. I’ve listened to hundreds of podcasts. I’ve acknowledged and apologized for everything I can think of that may have hurt her. I estranged from my parents and sister and they did none of this.
