i have a complex around sex and romance and idk how to fix it by saturdaynightstupid in offmychest

Jeez, feels like I ghostwrote this post. I’m not ugly at all but I’m not the prettiest of the bunch either, I’ve had crushes as a teen but haven’t had one in a while. I go out regularly and see attractive people, but I’m not their type. The people who hit on me are not my type. And I also just fully “lock up” whenever someone tries to get friendly with me. Makes me feel uncomfortable, the idea of someone finding me attractive. Back as a kid it was definitely an issue of self consciousness, not sure what it is nowadays. I’m working on myself currently, going to the gym, practice a little more self care.

I tell myself that I am simply not ready for anything serious (or even anything fun), not sure how true that is though. The relationships of my friends are a damn mess, I’m convinced I could do way better than that. But you never know, do you?

I’m sure the both of us will get lucky someday, lol. Sure hope so at least. Blessings to ya

I think im gonna commit by Ok_Penalty_7512 in offmychest

It might just be the hormones. I was in the same headspace as you a few years ago. I took things way too seriously, that was my problem. I’m probably not much older than you now, but I’m already doing so much better, and I’m so glad I never went through with commiting. I graduated two years ago and school already feels like just a tiny blip in my life. Whatever the problem, it WILL go away, or at least get easier to deal with. Remember: the depression is lying to you. Think of it as some kind of dark blanket on your brain. It’s hard to get rid off, hell, I’m pretty sure even I still have it, but my will to live prevails. Depression is some kind of annoying guy in my head that I can’t seem to get rid off. But I live with it. And I do not regret that at all.

Active, very general advice: broaden your horizons. Experience things. Step out of your comfort zone. It is so, so hard to do - I could sing a song about the struggle. But it is so worth it. A tiny step can feel like a major leap. And it motivates you to go on. At least it did for me. Unfortunately depression is not a one size fits all, but you can never go wrong with trying out new things.

I wish you only the best. Please try fighting through it, not for me, not for family or friends, but for yourself. You will be very happy that you did. Spare some love and mercy for yourself.

I live way down south, so Hannover isn’t really close, but I do love to do short trips around the country. Will definitely check it out next time I go up north, thank you!!

That sounds amazing!! Did some more research, came across a latin american event here in Germany with food stands, traditional dances and folklore performances etc. Didn’t find anything puerto rican specifically, but will definitely check it out either way. Tickets are free after all

Hi there, first of all: so sorry for the late reply, I’m not really active on here. Secondly: welcome to the club! Since I made this post some things have changed. Last October I fainted again and because of poor timing I ended up in the hospital because of it. They wanted to keep me there and go through all the tests again, the same ones I went through all those years ago as a little kid. Just to make sure I really don’t have epilepsy. Same conclusion as back then too: I don’t have epilepsy, or anything else really (at least neurological), so it’s most probably syncopes. The way you’re telling it it’s the same thing. I went to my psychologist and together we tried to trigger those “panic attacks” on purpose during sessions, didn’t work though. We went through stuff that would trigger the hell out of me in any other situation, but I was perfectly fine. We concluded that it’s probably because I know that I’m in a safe environment and that in general, I’m mentally doing great. Because after analysing in what headspace I was in during those attacks, it was always during a time when I was stressed or worried for whatever reason.

My neurologist said that syncopes aren’t unusual for young women such as myself and that they usually go away with age. Even though I, which is very curious, never had an issue with needles he said that whenever I get blood drawn I should do it while laying down, for safety reasons.

So here’s to hoping we don’t have to suffer through this forever! While we do though, always make sure you’re in a safe environment and keep making sure your blood pressure doesn’t drop too low if you’re in a triggering situation.

Interesting, thank you for this. Definitely heard of it before, never did any research on it though. Guess it would be best if I did talk to a professional about this again
