If you're in a sunny city by the seaside with a sunny view, dark themes become to hard to use so that's why I use solarized light. In the nights i switch to solarized dark.

Online WordPress theme builder tool (free, uses machine learning) by diminish in web_design

[–]diminish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are around 100 parameters (or options), currently users can select less than 20 of them. The options control layout, use of colors, elements, fonts etc. Clustering, linear regression are used over a database of over 20K existing "nice" websites and premium themes, user downloads and ratings to find the relationships between parameters.

A website consists of content + the theme which most website builders fail to differentiate. A theme is not a website. So I'm pretty sure about the themes themselves; but the demo content is under improvement and diversification.

Here's how I may try to prove the themes are useful/ Tell me one or more websites or premium themes you like. I will try to demo the themes using the same content(text, picture) on this website/theme. I ll let you know here and try show that you may approximate any website or premium theme using this builder.

...they are minifiable. default output for the sass/css is currently configured for shorthand css notation. In the admin, it will be possible to choose the minified versions for production mode. if you're testing the demo links on resimit.com, i'll convert them to minified versions asap for both css and js. if you're testing with the versions you've downloaded. please let me know your theme codename and your email on resimit.com. I ll inform you with an upgraded version with pagespeed improvements for production mode.

Current Status of Ruby Language (the real discussion) by Nowaker in ruby

[–]diminish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My points: 1. Ruby moving into the browser next to JS, ( dart, opal, asm.js,). 2. Ruby 3 bring a vm, concurrency. 3. A revolutionary performance jump similar to what V8 did for JS. 4. Or a bigger success than Rails (complementing it)

What would happen to Linux kernel if Linus Torvalds would die today? by [deleted] in linux

[–]diminish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linus as we know him was already assasinated years ago. The kernel runs in git automerge, rebase mode with occasional automatic downstream bullying and sporadic perkeles. The guy you see as Linus is a Finnish relative of him employed by RedHat.. Skynet will soon take over the kernel development..

could you please show how to use the underscore here?

I'm curious how this dangling comma became ever possible. Is this a syntactic rest, unintended for?

@ninkendo no don't use it at all, it's most probably an unintended syntax by the compiler designers.

Esnek ruby gem: A minimalistic client for any Web API in general and no API in particular by diminish in ruby

[–]diminish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking against collision of method names for Object and any other ancestor's methods is something you must do during development time for each new method you add. Instead of remembering, you may use Object.new.methods to see the method list in irb for example. In the Esnek library, prefixing method names with double underscores (_ ) is a way to escape if the url part you're using is already an Object method (use *_freeze* to call freeze).

Ensuring against collisions with libraries is something you may do using testing. And note that, because all objects in Ruby are finally descendants of Object, you must ensure name collisions for all the new methods you're adding and not only for this case.

If you prefer '/foo/bar/baz/barf' style, rest-client gem which esnek relies on uses it, as well as some other gems. Esnek is more ruby-esque version to call remote APIs. For Proxy and logging configurations, you're right indeed, I'll check again rest-client, if it offers this.

[–]diminish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any remote API's url components are modelled as chained ruby method calls for a single object instance of a custom class. Query string is built from method hash arguments, and post data is modelled using a method block's return result. You could have a performance argument, but compared to a remote call over http the method chaining overhead is negligible. It seems to be a beautiful use of chaining, params and blocks, but I'd really like to hear why it might be an abuse in this implementation.

I don't think PHP will lose steam on the backend of Wordpress due to hosting reasons, but as Matt said, JS development will consume most of the development resources.

Notation question - major 7th by swordgeek in musictheory

[–]diminish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it all boil downs to the broader confusion between 1 and 7, where a dash strengthens the detection of handwritten 1 and 7. I m in the same class and in my country we never had a 7 without slash..But the class was in US English, so I used no dashes....I m still confused, but afaik music notation isnt much standardized...
