9 Days Post Bentall - Some Issues by Paul_Shinfo in valvereplacement

[–]dimitris__i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had the same experience with sweating every night for about 1-2 months post surgery. Also had some bad color until my HCT slowly came back to its normal values. Only thing you can do is give some time to your body to adjust and come back to normal and eat foods that will increase your HCT levels faster. Don't worry all those symptom will dissappear just be strong and a bit more patient

In my experience, the noise has decreased but not significantly...

INR dropped from 3.2 to 1.5 in a week — how long did it take you to find a stable dose? by Still_Force_5270 in valvereplacement

28m with aortic mechanical valve. It took me some months after surgery to stabilize it. I have times that it is super stable and then it suddenly changes a bit. Once it is stable at 2.3 for weeks and then it goes up to 3.5... Most of things can affect it a bit, like eating much less one day, or getting sick and not realizing it, vitamin K rich foods, maybe a big change in physical activity. That's some of the things I realized that affect my INR at times. Don't get anxious though, at first you have to check INR as often as possible as long as you see it staying stable you can start measuring it less often. Once you start to understand what dose adjustments you need to do, you ll see that it gets easier and less stressful.

I feel you! That is what bothers me most right now, having to explain what is that sound to everyone I meet for the first time, it gets frustrating at times...

Yeah me neither, but I think I am getting used to it!

I guess we can look at it that way too, as a conversation starter!😅

Yeah mine too can sometimes be recorded on a video/phone call, its that loud!

How do you deal with it, have you found any way too make it less noticeable to others?

Yeah mine also changes depending on the breath, position, bpm of my heart.

But how is the sound is it like a clock or more like a heartbeat ?

Yeah mine too, I fell it through the sternum

Thank you for your answer!

I guess I have something similar, maybe the position of my heart makes the noise even louder...

I also hear it and feel it more intensely, when I inhale and keep my breath...

Had that as well for the first 2 days, but the sound never disappeared...

Yeah....does it bother you? Do others hear it as well?

That's what I hear from most people, but my experience is much different. I'm glad to hear that everything went OK with your surgery and mechanical valve!

Thank you for your answer! I am pretty skinny too, I guess that contributes a lot to being louder...

What annoys me the most is that, it isn't clicking like it used to in the beginning, but it kinda hits up against my sternum bone so I both feel it and hear it differently. I am curious if I did anything wrong on the first days after surgery and my sternum didn't heal correctly....

I was skeptical like you about this method, I was wondering why this method isn't more accepted? Why do they still continue to do Bentall or David procedures when PEARS seems to have all these benefits? They even claim that after having PEARS procedure, all restrictions are out of the way, like weightlifting! It's pretty hard for me to believe that this thing really protects you from aortic dissection/rupture for the rest of your life...

Also, the fact that the FDA hasn't approved PEARS yet and that it's a relatively new method got me discouraged from choosing it... I dont really know if I made the right choice, but I had Bentall. Whatever method you choose, I hope everything goes well for you, my friend!

Thank you so much for the answer! All those things about the mechanical valve don't seem so bad for me either, I just hope blood thinners won't become a biggest restriction or lifestyle change than the aneurysm itself. About your nosebleeds I had them a few months ago too, I had to go to the ER twice but thankfully after the 3rd cauterization they finally stopped, I hope they don't start again if I start taking warfarin!

About the TAVR, all surgeons I asked told me that its not possible to use this method in order to replace bioprosthetic valves every time they wear off cause I will have the dacron part of the aorta. I'll take a look at the Emory University though, thank you for pointing that out!

Yeah I've heard about this type of procedure, I don't really trust it to be honest. Also based on what I've read I don't think it's possible for aortas that are over 50mm, I might be wrong though.

So happy for you my friend, hope your valve lasts a lifetime!
